Book Native American Voluntary Organizations

Download or read book Native American Voluntary Organizations written by Armand Shelby La Potin and published by Greenwood. This book was released on 1987-06-16 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although several useful sources provide descriptive material on certain kinds of American Indian associations, until now none has offered a comprehensive survey of both extinct and current groups. This latest addition to Greenwood Press' Ethnic American Voluntary Organizations series addresses this void. The entry for each organization, presented alphabetically in the main body of the text, generally provides the reader with at least a brief history of the organization, noting, where possible, individuals involved in its creation. An effort has been made to tie the organization's development to major events in the history of Indian-white relations or in the Indian community itself. Where possible, references are made to other associations. Each entry concludes with a section of bibliographical material designed to assist the reader in undertaking a more in-depth investigation of the organization. Primary source material is listed where known to be available. The appendices classify the organizations under several general catagories and provide a chronological time chart that includes events that were either influenced by the creation of the organizations or were primary factors in their development.

Book Dynamics of Tribal Development

Download or read book Dynamics of Tribal Development written by Pradip Kumar Bhowmick and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Development of tribes and their areas are today a major concern of the Government. Various articles of the Indian Constitution provide specific provisions for the advancement of scheduled castes and scheduled tribes. Often, a tribeis biologically as well as culturally distinct from other tribes and non-tribal population. The bureaucratic system has its own limitations and is not flexible enough. A Voluntary Organisation on the other hand, cna easily adjust itself to the needs of the people with sympathy, personal care and urgency. Despite efforts, both by the Government and Voluntary Organisations, the progress is not what it should have been possible because of the inconsistency between various developmental approaches and different socio-economic-politico-cultural factors in which the tribal groups are nursed and nurtured.

Book Policies Programmes and Strategies for Tribal Development

Download or read book Policies Programmes and Strategies for Tribal Development written by Nishakar Panda and published by Gyan Publishing House. This book was released on 2006 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A plethora of literature is available and various studies have been undertaken on different aspects of tribal development. But very few on the analysis of tribal problems vis-à-vis programmes/policies for their development has remained more or less unexplored. The present study has attempted to plug this critical gap. In this book the author has delved deeper into the genesis of tribal problems, critically examined the programmes for their development in the past and present and offered some valuable insights for lifting them out of the morass of poverty and stagnation. It has traced successive shifts in tribal development policies and strategies at different points of time. A thumbnail picture has been presented on impact of the programmes on the stakeholders through case studies conducted in a remote district of a poverty ridden state. The results of the field study tend to conceptualise that despite input in terms of money and material and the so called coveted efforts and endeavours of public servants, there is an abysmal mismatch between the objectives and achievement. We are still far away from the point of their conscientisation. The study will be of immense academic and practical worth. The comprehensive analysis and critical review presented in this book on an important aspect of tribal development and finally the policy prescriptions suggested make it imperative reading for economists, anthropologists, planners, policy makers, administrators and members of the academic and research organizations.
