Book Voltage Analysis of PWM Inverter Fed Induction Motors

Download or read book Voltage Analysis of PWM Inverter Fed Induction Motors written by Fahad H. Al-Ghubari and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adjustable Speed Drive (ASD) systems are widely used in industry to effectively improve process efficiency and control. Typically, an ASD system consists of a motor with its speed controlled by a power electronics converter via varying the amplitude and frequency of the input voltage. However, several abnormal insulation failures of random wound motors in ASD applications have been reported. These failures were related to voltage transients caused by inverters employing fast insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors (IGBTs) combined with long cables that connect motors to inverters. This thesis further analyzes the distribution of voltage waveforms generated by a pulse-width modulated (PWM) inverter at the motor terminals and windings. Experimental work was performed at the Motor Systems and Resource Facility (MSRF) at Oregon State University on a specially made 5hp induction motor with taps from the first and second coil and from the first four and last two turns in every phase. Tests were performed with long and short cables and results are compared. A simple simulation model was created in PSpice and used to predict maximum voltage transients across coils and turns. The validation of the model is demonstrated by its capability to predict most of the experimental results.

Now topics include digital interfacing and control of drives, direct torque control of induction motors and current-fed operation in DC drives. The material on brushless servomotors has also been expanded."--BOOK JACKET.

Book Emc Aspects of Pwm Inverter Fed Ac Motor Drive System

Download or read book Emc Aspects of Pwm Inverter Fed Ac Motor Drive System written by Abdolreza Esmaeli and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2010-11 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: PWM inverters are widely used in industrial, commercial and residential application such as motor drives. In three-leg inverters for three-phase applications the occurrence of common mode voltage is inherent due to asymmetrical output pulses. It has been found that the high dv/dt and high switching frequency together with the common mode voltages generated by PWM inverters have caused many adverse effects such as shaft voltage, bearing current, leakage current, motor terminal over voltage and electromagnetic interference (EMI). The EMI generated by such systems is increasingly causing concerns, as the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) regulations become more stringent. In order to comply with these international EMC regulations, an EMI filter is often necessary. The major objective of this book is to investigate and suppress of the adverse effects of PWM inverters. Theoretical analysis of all the adverse effects is presented in this book. Several passive and active EMI filters and their design procedures are proposed and performed. The experimental results of applying these novel filters are presented.

Book Analysis and Methodology for Determining the Parasitic Capacitances in VSI fed IM Drives Based on PWM Technique

Download or read book Analysis and Methodology for Determining the Parasitic Capacitances in VSI fed IM Drives Based on PWM Technique written by Rudolf Ribeiro Riehl and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three-phase induction motors present stray capacitances. The aim of this chapter is to present a methodology to experimentally determine these capacitances and also evaluate the effects of electromagnetic interference on motors in common mode. The proposed procedures for this methodology consist of: a) identifying the motor equivalent electrical circuit parameters through characteristic tests performed in the laboratory; b) setting up configurations between the PWM inverter and the motor for voltage and current measurements: common mode and shaft voltages, leakage and shaft (bearing) currents by using a dedicated measuring circuit; c) calculating the parasitic capacitance values between stator and frame, stator and rotor, rotor and frame and bearings of the motor using the capacitance characteristic equation; d) using the dedicated software Pspice to simulate the system composed by the three-phase induction motor fed by PWM inverter with the equivalent electrical circuit parameters; e) determining the characteristic waveforms involved in the common mode phenomenon.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: AC motors play a major role in modern industrial applications. Squirrel-cage induction motors (SCIMs) are probably the most frequently used when compared to other AC motors because of their low cost, ruggedness, and low maintenance. The material presented in this book is organized into four sections, covering the applications and structural properties of induction motors (IMs), fault detection and diagnostics, control strategies, and the more recently developed topology based on the multiphase (more than three phases) induction motors. This material should be of specific interest to engineers and researchers who are engaged in the modeling, design, and implementation of control algorithms applied to induction motors and, more generally, to readers broadly interested in nonlinear control, health condition monitoring, and fault diagnosis.

Book Development of Speed Controller for Inverter FED Induction Motor

Download or read book Development of Speed Controller for Inverter FED Induction Motor written by Muhd Hasif Juhari and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Normally variable speed control was performed by some type of d.c. motor. Today, the development of power semiconductors has resulted in the utilization of inverter circuits for variable speed control of induction motor. This project is to develop the application of inverter which can control the speed of induction motor by using PI controller. Inverters are circuit that convert DC to AC. The function of inverter is to create an AC voltage by using a DC voltage source, the voltage source that used DC voltage commonly batteries. Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) technique is considered as one solution for harmonic reduction and increasing the motor efficiency. Previous study regarding the performance on the traditional Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) inverter is carried out and it was found that the performance is not ideal. Therefore an improvement on the traditional PWM inverter is carried out by inserting a Proportional Integral (PI) controller to regulate and stabilize the output voltage of the inverter. This work was applied close-loop variable speed drive for single-phase induction motor using voltage control. The proposed drive system is simulated using Matlab/ Simulink, its results were compared with the hardware experimental results. The simulation and laboratory results proved that the drive system could be used for the speed control of a single phase induction motor with wide speed range.

Book A Comparative Study on Some Fault Diagnosis Techniques in Three Phase Inverter Fed Induction Motors

Download or read book A Comparative Study on Some Fault Diagnosis Techniques in Three Phase Inverter Fed Induction Motors written by Bilal Djamal Eddine and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The growing importance of power conversion systems and their dependency on the performance and reliability of static converters has motivated extensive research efforts in this field. A variety of different techniques have been applied to detect open-circuit faults in power converters. The present chapter is focusing on the techniques of detection and localization of open-circuit faults in a three phase voltage source inverter fed induction motor. A comparative study is carried out between different detection techniques: the Park current vectors and its enhancement by using the polar coordinates, the mean value of the currents, the stator current spectrum analysis and the measurement of the current drop. The aim of this comparison is to investigate the relative strengths and weaknesses of the different techniques and evaluate the performance of each detection technique studied. The comparison study focuses on the time detection, the localization ability and the hardware aspect. To validate these techniques, an experimental setup is developed in our diagnostic group laboratory which consists of a two-level voltage source inverter controlled by a DSPACE-1104, Card to generate the PWM vector control of the induction motor. The obtained simulation and experimental results illustrate well the detection feasibility of each technique as well as the benefits and merits of the performed comparative study.
