Book Normal Development of Voice in Children

Download or read book Normal Development of Voice in Children written by Mette Pedersen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-09-20 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The technical measurement of individual parameters in an area as complex as music and song has achieved acceptance only in recent years. However important objective parameters of normal voice development may be, they are especially so when patholo- cal deviations have to be recognised and defined. It is nevertheless also possible to a certain extent to describe different qualities of normal voice development in terms of measurable parameters. Hormonal changes have a considerable influence on the ph- ical and mental development of boys and girls. The extent to which this influence affects voice development in the two sexes will be made clear in this work through the observation of a number of parameters. I hope that this will stimulate further investigations of this topic. Possible interesting topics for further research are emphasised in the text. Working with adolescents and documenting their vocal dev- opment has given me a lot of pleasure. Colleagues with different medical specialities have supported me in this task. The practical significance of this work has shown itself in the way the results obtained (the graphs and tables) are used today by laryngo- gists, phoniatricians and music teachers in their daily work, and vii viii Preface the determination of hormonal levels in the course of puberty has been introduced as a routine in choirs.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the little book that started a revolution, making women's voices heard, in their own right and with their own integrity, for virtually the first time in social scientific theorizing about women. Its impact was immediate and continues to this day, in the academic world and beyond. Translated into sixteen languages, with more than 700,000 copies sold around the world, In a Different Voice has inspired new research, new educational initiatives, and political debate—and helped many women and men to see themselves and each other in a different light.Carol Gilligan believes that psychology has persistently and systematically misunderstood women—their motives, their moral commitments, the course of their psychological growth, and their special view of what is important in life. Here she sets out to correct psychology's misperceptions and refocus its view of female personality. The result is truly a tour de force, which may well reshape much of what psychology now has to say about female experience.

Book How to Develop a Better Speaking Voice

Download or read book How to Develop a Better Speaking Voice written by Marjorie Hellier and published by Createspace Independent Pub. This book was released on 2011-03-10 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you ever heard your voice played back on a tape recorder? The first time you heard it, you probably said, “That's not me.” The following thought was probably, “Do I sound like that when I talk?”And, the third silent thought was,“Better do something about it quick!”But, what to do? How do you start improving your voice? The best solution is to take lessons from a voice teacher. This, however, costs money and takes time, both precious commodities. If your career is in the acting profession, this is the only solution. But, if you are not directly connected with the entertainment world, you will not want to go to such lengthy measures. Having a good speaking voice is an asset in any profession, and nothing is more revealing about your personality than your voice. What does the voice do? It reveals all the emotions inherent in man: anger, frustration, happiness, contentment, etc. Actually, the impression you make on other people is not done with words, but how you speak them. The most important word in the human language today is “communication.”Without it, enemies are made, friendships broken, business lost. When the phone was invented, the bulk of communications was taken from the hands and given to the voice. Yet, while children are taught their grammar and ABC's in school, the art of elocution is ignored. Now, you have reached a point in your life when you realize something is missing, and, being a mature person, you naturally want to correct this lack.“Do it yourself”has become the national password, so your problem is finding a book that is easily understood, practical, and interesting. Look no further, you are holding it in your hands. This book was written by a woman who has made her living by properly using her voice. Marjorie Hellier, actress, singer, lecturer and tutor with twenty-five years' experience in the handling of voices of every age and type, vividly describes her individual (and successful) approach to the art of voice control. Marjorie Hellier has set down all the pertinent facts necessary for improving your voice, and has done it in such a delightful manner, you will find yourself eager to improve. With her simple instructions and illustrations, it will take only a short time for you to notice a remarkable change in the quality of your voice. If you don't believe it, go back to that revealing tape recorder after you have thoroughly digested and applied the principles taught in this book, and hear the pleasing changes with your own ears.
