Book Visual Word Recognition Volume 2

Download or read book Visual Word Recognition Volume 2 written by James S Adelman and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2012-08-21 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Word recognition is the component of reading which involves the identification of individual words. Together the two volumes of Visual Word Recognition offer a state-of-the-art overview of contemporary research from leading figures in the field. This second volume examines how research on word recognition has been linked to the study of concepts and meaning, such as how morphemes affect word recognition, how the meaning of words affects their processing and the effect of priming on the processing of words. The book also discusses eye-movement research, the reading of whole sentences and passages, how bilinguals recognize words in different languages, individual differences in visual word recognition, and the development of visual word recognition difficulties in developmental dyslexia. The two volumes serve as a state-of-the-art, comprehensive overview of the field. They are essential reading for researchers of visual word recognition, and students on undergraduate and postgraduate courses in cognition and cognitive psychology, specifically the psychology of language and reading. They will also be of use to those working in education and speech-language therapy.

Book Handbook of Reading Research Volume II

Download or read book Handbook of Reading Research Volume II written by Rebecca Barr and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-11-18 with total page 1108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive overview of important contemporary issues in the field of reading research from the mid 1980s to mid 1990s, this well-received volume offers readers an examination of literacy through a variety of lenses--some permitting microscopic views and others panoramic views. A veritable "who's who" of specialists in the field, chapter authors cover current methodology, as well as cumulative research-based knowledge. Because it deals with society and literacy, the first section provides the broadest possible view of literacy. The second section defines the range of activities culturally determined to be a part of the enterprise known as literacy. The third focuses on the processes that individuals engage in when they perform the act of reading. The fourth section visits the environment in which the knowledge that comprises literacy is passed on from one generation to the next. The last section, an epilogue to the whole enterprise of reading research, provides apt philosophical reflection.

Book excerpt: "These books provide stimulating and engaging discussion topics as well as exposing students to the essential concept of analogies." Rain Donohue, ABE/ESL Coordinator for Truckee Meadows Community College, Reno, Nevada. Book 2 on nature is an entertaining educational tool designed to engage adults learning English. The four key words of each nature analogy are in CAPITAL letters. Each word in capital letters has a related photo to clarify meaning. The analogies are set up to foster predictive skills, which are essential to reading success. The student makes a prediction of the answer based on the first three words of the analogy. A hint is given for additional help. After making the prediction, the student turns the page to learn the answer to the analogy question. This immediate feedback turns learning English into a rewarding game. Analogies are important because they influence how we read, think and write about the world.

Book Ecclesial Futures Volume 2 Issue 2

Download or read book Ecclesial Futures Volume 2 Issue 2 written by Nigel Rooms and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2021-12-03 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ecclesial Futures publishes original research and theological reflection on the development and transformation of local Christian communities and the systems that support them as they join in the mission of God in the world. We understand local Christian communities broadly to include traditional “parish” churches and independent local churches, religious communities and congregations, new church plants, so-called “fresh expressions” of church, “emergent” churches, and “new monastic” communities. We are an international and ecumenical journal with an interdisciplinary understanding of our approach to theological research and reflection; the core disciplines being theology, missiology, and ecclesiology. Other social science and theological disciplines may be helpful in supporting the holistic nature of any research, e.g., anthropology and ethnography, sociology, statistical research, biblical studies, leadership studies, and adult learning. The journal fills an important reflective space between the academy and on-the-ground practice within the field of mission studies, ecclesiology, and the so-called “missional church.” This opportunity for engagement has emerged in the last twenty or so years from a turn to the local (and the local church) and, in the western world at least, from the demise of Christendom and a rapidly changing world—which also affects the church globally. The audience for the journal is truly global wherever the local church and the systems that support them exists. We expect to generate interest from readers in church judicatory bodies, theological seminaries, university theology departments, and in local churches from all God’s people and the leaders amongst them.

Book A linguistic study of the development of scientific vocabulary in Standard Arabic

Download or read book A linguistic study of the development of scientific vocabulary in Standard Arabic written by Abdul Sahib Mehdi Ali and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-09-05 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1987. The reasons behind the establishment of this Series on Arabic linguistics are manifold. First: Arabic linguistics is developing into an increasingly interesting and important subject within the broad field of modern linguistic studies. The subject is now fully recognised in the Universities of the Arabic speaking world and in international linguistic circles, as a subject of great theoretical and descriptive interest and importance. Second: Arabic linguistics is reaching a mature stage in its development benefiting both from early Arabic linguistic scholarship and modern techniques of general linguistics and related disciplines. Third: The scope of this discipline is wide and varied, covering diverse areas such as Arabic phonetics, phonology and grammar, Arabic psycholinguistics, Arabic dialectology, Arabic lexicography and lexicology, Arabic sociolinguistics, the teaching and learning of Arabic as a first, second, or foreign language, communications, semiotics, terminology, translation, machine translation, Arabic computational linguistics, history of Arabic linguistics, etc. This is monograph 6 in the series.
