English has enormous number of vocabularies, therefore, mastering English is frequently troublesome for most of Indonesian students who learn English as a foreign language. Every English teacher in Indonesia are encouraged to use effective ways or strategies in teaching vocabularies. One of recommended ways of teaching vocabularies is using explicit morphological instructions. This means that English teachers have to explain or discuses explicitly the morphological components of English like how English words are constructed. The English teacher may introduce how affixation, compounding or clipping work in English vocabulary building. The researchers as English lecturer commonly hear the complaints of English university students about the difficulty of learning English vocabulary. Besides the huge number of English vocabularies, the limitation of learning time, and the differences between the English and Indonesian language system commonly become the causes of this struggle. Based on this situation, the researchers concurred to conduct action research to overcome this problem. This book is a monograph of a study entitled “Promoting Students’ English Vocabulary through Explicit Morphological Instructions and Exploring Students’ Voices”. This monograph consists of Five Chapters called Chapter I (Introduction), Chapter II (English Vocabulary), Chapter III (Morphology), Chapter IV (Explicit Morphological Instructions), and Chapter V (The Example) Some relevant documents to this study are also attached on the appendixes. The appendixes consist of the test questions, the observation sheet, the questionnaire, and the teaching materials.

Book Academic Language Mastery Vocabulary in Context

Download or read book Academic Language Mastery Vocabulary in Context written by Margarita Espino Calderón and published by Corwin Press. This book was released on 2016-07-22 with total page 97 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By now it’s a given: if we’re to help our ELLs and SELs access the rigorous demands of today’s content standards, we must cultivate the “code” that drives school success: academic language. Look no further for assistance than this much-anticipated series from Ivannia Soto, in which she invites field authorities Jeff Zwiers, David and Yvonne Freeman, Margarita Calderon, and Noma LeMoine to share every teacher’s need-to-know strategies on the four essential components of academic language. The subject of this volume is vocabulary. Here, Margarita Calderon reveals how vocabulary is best taught as a tool for completing and constructing more complex messages. With this book as your roadmap, you’ll learn how to: Teach high-frequency academic words and discipline-specific vocabulary across content areas Utilize strategies for teaching academic vocabulary, moving students from Tier 1 to Tiers 2 and 3 words and selecting appropriate words to teach Assess vocabulary growth as you go Our vocabulary instruction must come from the texts our ELLs and SELs are about to read, not from a set of activities that teach words in isolation. This guidebook will help you get started as early as tomorrow. Better yet, read all four volumes in the series and put in place an all-in-one instructional plan for closing the achievement gap.

Book Developmental Theory and Language Disorders

Download or read book Developmental Theory and Language Disorders written by Paul Fletcher and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2005-01-01 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The chapters in this volume arise from presentations at a unique conference on typical and atypical language development held in Madison, USA in 2002. This joint meeting of the International Association for the Study of Child Language, and the Symposium for Research in Child Language Disorders brought together – for the first time in such large numbers – researchers from these two distinct but related fields. The week-long schedule of the conference allowed for an in-depth interrogation of their theoretical positions, methodologies and findings. In the contributions to this volume we have put together a carefully selected set of papers which from various perspectives explore the linkage between developmental theory and language impairment, and at the same time illustrate the effects of distinct conditions – hearing loss, autism, Down syndrome, Williams syndrome and specific language impairment – on the communication abilities of affected individuals. An introductory chapter, and a detailed summary which picks up recurring themes in the chapters, complete the volume.
