Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is the meaning of our life? What is the relevance of Swami Vivekananda and his teaching's in today’s fast-paced world? Are religion and spirituality the same? When Deepak and Dipali arrive in Dehradun to meet their childhood friend Jayant, they bring with them a monk. His addition in the mix ensures a rather unusual route of conversation on spirituality. Stories that are both thought-provoking and interesting emerge from the perspective of ancient Indian ethos rather than philosophy or theism. When Jayant reveals that he is, in fact, currently writing a book on Swami Vivekananda, the discussion turns deeper with relevant questions on the meaning (of life), vision, work, organization, leader as mentor, and reality. The protagonists navigate their way through the tributaries of humanism, philosophy, religion, and management and try to find answers to questions that Vivekananda himself grappled with. Written in an easy conversational manner, you will be extolled on not taking anything at face value but to choose your own path of truth. This book leaves you with a feeling of optimism and self-belief.

This book was released on with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The degree of freedom enjoyed is the first and the foremost factor in evaluating the health of an individual and society. It is the means and also the supreme end of human well-being. But for ages women have been subjugated and suppressed. Victims of gender politics from timeless past, today modern women are struggling to break away from their imprisonment. Published by Advaita Ashrama, a branch of Ramakrishna Math, Belur Math, the central issue dealt with in this small book is The Way to Women's Freedom. Are the modern women truly heading towards freedom? Or are they moving towards another trap? Often what appears to be freedom on the surface proves to be enslavement in disguise! What is the true meaning of freedom? What is the way? This is an extraordinarily important issue of modern times with widespread ramifications. Swami Vivekananda's views on this matter are crucial. The author carefully presents two contrasting pictures: (1) The present day woman, her status, and her expression of freedom, and (2) Swami Vivekananda's view of a truly free woman, and the way to achieve that freedom.

Book The Life Of Vivekananda

Download or read book The Life Of Vivekananda written by Romain Rolland and published by Prabhat Prakashan. This book was released on 2021-01-01 with total page 779 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was not given to his proudest disciples to emulate him. The greatest of them, the spirit with the widest wings — Vivekananda — could only attain his heights by sudden flights amid tempests, which remind me over and over again of Beethoven. Even in moments of rest upon its bosom the sails of his ship were filled with every wind that blew. Earthly cries, the sufferings of the ages, fluttered round him like a flight of famished gulls. The passions of strength (never of weakness) were striving within his lion’s heart. He was energy personified, and action was his message to men. For him, as for Beethoven, it was the. root of all the virtues. He went so far in his aversion to passivity, whose secular yoke weighs so heavily on the patient bovine brow of the East, as to say : “ Above all, be strong, be manly ! I have a respect even for one who is wicked, so long as he is manly and strong ; for his strength will make him some day give up his wickedness, or even give up all work for selfish ends, and will then eventually bring him into the Truth.”

Book Swami Vivekananda s Ved ntic Cosmopolitanism

Download or read book Swami Vivekananda s Ved ntic Cosmopolitanism written by Swami Medhananda and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2022 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Swami Vivekananda, the nineteenth-century Hindu monk who introduced Vedåanta to the West, is undoubtedly one of modern India's most influential philosophers. Unfortunately, his philosophy has too often been interpreted through reductive hermeneutic lenses. Typically, scholars have viewed him either as a modern-day exponent of âSaçnkara's Advaita Vedåanta or as a "Neo-Vedåantin" influenced more by Western ideas than indigenous Indian traditions. In Swami Vivekananda's Vedåantic Cosmopolitanism, Swami Medhananda rejects both of these prevailing approaches to offer a new interpretation of Vivekananda's philosophy, highlighting its originality, contemporary relevance, and cross-cultural significance. Vivekananda, the book argues, is best understood as a cosmopolitan Vedåantin who developed novel philosophical positions through creative dialectical engagement with both Indian and Western thinkers. Inspired by his guru Sri Ramakrishna, Vivekananda reconceived Advaita Vedåanta as a nonsectarian, life-affirming philosophy that provides an ontological basis for religious cosmopolitanism and a spiritual ethics of social service. He defended the scientific credentials of religion while criticizing the climate of scientism beginning to develop in the late nineteenth century. He was also one of the first philosophers to defend the evidential value of supersensuous perception on the basis of general epistemic principles. Finally, he adopted innovative cosmopolitan approaches to long-standing philosophical problems. Bringing him into dialogue with a galaxy of contemporary philosophers, Medhananda demonstrates the sophistication and enduring value of Vivekananda's views on the limits of reason, the dynamics of religious faith, and the hard problem of consciousness"--

Book Swami Vivekananda s History of Universal Religion and Its Potential for Global Reconciliation

Download or read book Swami Vivekananda s History of Universal Religion and Its Potential for Global Reconciliation written by Sister Gayatriprana and published by Cook Communication. This book was released on 2020-09-01 with total page 604 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents in the words of Swami Vivekananda (1863-1902) a history of Vedanta, the deep exploration of the inner human world going back to the most ancient rishis or seers whose testimony is still revered in India. He traces the tradition up to the beginning of the twentieth century, showing how the dynamics of social structures within Vedanta and the appearance from within Vedanta of traditions such as Jainism, Buddhism, Hinduism and Sikhism influenced and molded the tradition. In addition, he studies the impact of the Western, Abrahamic invasions of India that began around the eleventh century CE. These brought to bear on Vedanta a worldview which operated on the assumption that the physical world was the primary reality and that the kind of radical exploration of the inner world embraced by Vedanta was highly suspect and not valid. The Vedantic tradition adapted in many different ways, producing a variety of philosophical positions that are still extant today. Along with these traditions went various forms of yoga or self-transformation, in Vedanta the key to experiencing the inner meaning of not only philosophy, but also of our human condition, and of reality itself. This tradition presents four contexts of experience (chatushpad), suggesting the “right brain” mode of approach as described by Iain McGilchrist (2009). Under the influence of Shri Ramakrishna (1836-1886) Vivekananda gained access to vijnana or a knowledge higher than those classically described and known in the chatushpad. Vijnana permitted the acceptance of not only the traditional, deeply experiential truths of Vedanta, but also of the validity of Western materialism when seen as related to each other on a continuum of consciousness to be traversed by contemporary forms of yoga. I see the result as a resolution of “right-left” brain conflict à la McGilchrist and thereby a model for universal human understanding, conciliation and co-operation. In my introduction I attempt to show how the whole picture can be related both experientially and conceptually to matrices of consciousness developed in India as far back as the early medieval period. A large glossary and index-cum concordance indicate the various contexts and depths of thought that emerge from Vivekananda’s multi-contextual vijnana.
