Book Vito S Journey Ii

Download or read book Vito S Journey Ii written by Vito A. Lepore and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2014-11-19 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For author Vito A. Lepore, the years between 1950 and 1959 were the most important of his life. Decisions were made that affected the coming years, and his character became defined. In Vitos Journey II, he picks up where part one of his memoir, Vitos Journey, leaves off but with a different focus. The first book introduced family members and told stories of a boys transition from Italy to America. Vitos Journey II begins with his first step out into an adult world and journeys through the stages that follow. Told in a series of entertaining vignettes, the stories include: his foray into baseball, the night Nunzio was kidnapped, a taste of the Italian personality, life in the military, a night in jail, and his first full-time adult job. There is also a climactic court sequence. In Vitos Journey II, Lepore communicates the lessons he learned throughout his life. Whether its boyhood or adulthood, life is a never-ending series of crossroads, some by accident and some by design. Your life can change on any given day. It then follows that there is no such thing as a last chance, and that failure is part of the learning process.

Book 50 Years of Singapore Europe Relations

Download or read book 50 Years of Singapore Europe Relations written by Lay Hwee Yeo and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2015-06-22 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As Singapore enters its 50th year of independence, it is a good time to reflect on its past as well as look to the future. 50 Years of Singapore-Europe Relations: Celebrating Singapore's Connections with Europe is one such contribution to the wide collection of books commemorating Singapore's 50th birthday. The essays and articles in this edited volume capture historical moments, reveal the heartfelt wishes and thoughtful comments of Europeans who have made Singapore their home, chronicle some of the long-standing partnerships and ponder the future challenges of Singapore. This unique book contains a wide range of essays and articles reflecting on the strong connections that Singapore enjoys with Europe, not only at the official level, but also through the contributions that Europeans and European companies have made — and continue to make — which enrich Singaporean society. These essays provide a kaleidoscope of views on Singapore — they explore how close ties and partnerships are forged between nations, how businesses see Singapore as a trustworthy partner and place to invest and establish roots, and, at a more personal level, the articles also present different perspectives on the strengths, and at times, the weaknesses of Singapore as viewed through the eyes of Europeans who live and work in Singapore and consider it as their home. In commemorating Singapore's 50th birthday, this book will add to the understanding of the richness and diversity of Singapore society, and help readers appreciate and reflect on how openness and connectivity have contributed to the success of Singapore in its first 50 years. Book The Travel Journal of Antonio de Beatis through Germany Switzerland the Low Countries France and Italy 1517 8

Download or read book The Travel Journal of Antonio de Beatis through Germany Switzerland the Low Countries France and Italy 1517 8 written by J.R. Hale and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2021-12-24 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In May 1517, Luigi of Aragon, one of the most wealthy, cultivated and well-connected of Italian cardinals, left Italy for a leisurely tour through Germany, Switzerland, the Low Countries and France, which lasted until January 1518. Too grand to keep a record of his own movements, he was well-served by his chaplain and amanuensis, Antonio de Beatis, who day by day kept a steadily enthusiastic record of the scenes they passed amongst. The range of de Beatis's interests was quite remarkably wide. His descriptions of individuals, landscapes, towns, of whole regions and the characters and customs of their inhabitants, of churches, palaces, relics and works of art provide one of the clearest impressions we have of the physical quality of life in north-western Europe in the Renaissance. This range owes something to the company he kept. Without the Cardinal he would not have had the organs played in the churches they visited, would not have watched Raphael's tapestries being woven in Brussels or met Leonardo da Vinci at Amboise. But it owes still more to the traditions which by 1517 suggested not only what a curious traveller should look at but the way in which he might organise his impressions, and express them in writing. For this reason most of the editor's Introduction is devoted to providing a pioneering account of the evolution of the Renaissance travel journal. Though the Italian text published in the German edition of Ludwig Pastor in 1905 has been frequently quoted by political, social and art historians, the Journal has not previously been translated into English.
