Book My Breathing System Classic Reprint

Download or read book My Breathing System Classic Reprint written by J. P. Muller and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from My Breathing System It may be a matter of surprise to some that I should add yet another volume to the already lengthy catalogue of booklets on The Art of Breathing. In justification I must state that my first reason is, that I have hitherto found all such works to be too much of the nature of text-books on the so-called art; hence it is now my ambition to bring forward the commonsense book on breathing. And my second reason is that, notwithstanding the scores of older books on breathing, we still meet thousands of persons who are unable to breathe properly - not only children and women, but even sportsmen, singers and scientific men. And thousands and thousands still die of consumption, notwithstanding the fact that this could be prevented merely by teaching the children proper breathing. There is, therefore, still much to be done in this direction. If my booklet contains some repetitions, they are only those which are intentional and such as are always allowed in conveying important advice. I have done my best to write it in the same simple style which has made my former books so popular amongst the general public. I must admit, however, that I fear I may have failed in this respect in the chapter concerning the diaphragm, which contains much professional technicality of language. My only excuse for this is that, during my studies and practical investigations, it struck me that many of the theories of science on that subject were erroneous, and I succumbed to the temptation of proving this to be the case. It has always been my habit to see with my own eyes and think with my own brain, instead of trusting to a long succession of authorities, each of whom has quoted from his predecessor, whilst the original one may have been unworthy of credit. This book has not been translated from the Danish, but has been written by myself in the English language. It is hardly necessary to say that the diction has been corrected and improved by my good friends, Mr. Ernest Gunton and Mr. H. R. Murray, to whom my Publishers entrusted this work. I take this opportunity of tendering to them my most cordial thanks. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Building of Vital Power: Deep Breathing and a Complete System for Strengthening the Heart, Lungs, Stomach and All the Great Vital Organs Without a normal degree of vital power, the attain ment or retainment of health is impossible. Herein lies the close relation between physical culture and vitality, for the former is the parent of the latter by enabling all the organs of the body to perform their individual functions m that orderly fashion that Nature intended that they should when she designed them. So that physical culture makes for health, and vital power is invariably the outcome or rather the companion of a perfectly balanced physical or ganism. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Deep Breathing: As a Means of Promoting the Art of Song, and of Curing Weaknesses and Affections of the Throat and Lungs, Especially Consumption The following pages on Deep Breathing seem to me too valuable not to be preserved in permanent form. They were originally translated by Mr. E. S. Werner for the admirable paper which he publishes, entitled The Voice, and, after having done good service in that journal, he has kindly consented to have them appear in this form for still more extended usefulness. It may not be out of place if I say a few words in this preface on the relations of the atmosphere to life, which will serve to enforce the value of the practice of deep breathing. Where respiration is full and vigorous, as for instance in most birds, life is energetic. Where it is feeble, as in snakes and frogs, life is torpid. Man lives in proportion as he breathes, and the activity of the child is in close relation to the strength of its lungs so, too, is the calm ness, dignity and power of man in proportion to the depth and tranquillity of his respiration. If the lungs are strong and active, there is courage and boldness. If feeble, there is cowardice and debility. To be out of spirits is to be out of breath. To be animated and joyous is to be full of breath. When eager and full of enterprise, we consume large quantities of air; when weary, we yawn when frightened, we are breathless and aghast. -how ever well we feed ourselves, if we do not breathe enough. Book The Blood and Breath

Download or read book The Blood and Breath written by Joseph Edwin Frobisher and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-27 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Blood and Breath: A System of Exercise for the Lungs and Limbs Rarely if ever do the more sturdy of athletes be come actors or craters, from the fact that sensibility is absorbed as muscle is forcedly enlarged, for the blood from the brain goes to give size to the arm and chest. We see, this exemplified to theextreme in prize-fighters. Elasticity of movement is also slowed to such an extent as to retard expression, and oonss quently prevent these electric, instantaneous flashes, sc absolutely needful in the higher range of elo quence, and in those keener touches of emotion in the grander dramatic roles. There are actors and craters of extraordinary strength - but it is natural; not forced. It is well balanced. It is strength of heart and lungs as well as limbs. Salvini is a living embodiment of this natural, brawny, robust strength, and his constant earnest act ing keeps him in possession of it. His impersonation of Samson, and his still more wonderful characteriza ticn cf. Saul, are realities of colossal strength. We had the privilege, on this side the water, of seeing and hearing, as if from life, those master - pieces cf the bibli cal days of Old, while conservative England placed an interdiction upon them because emanating from the Bible.
