Of these, 29,111 were employed in commerce in all its branches, 42,015 followed industrial pursuits, and 61,233 were engaged in agriculture or other primary production. The industrial class comes next, and, as was the case in previous years, primary producers contributed the largest relative proportion to the mortality rate in 1895. With respect to females, the information, as furnished on the death certificates, is evidently so unreliable that little is to be derived from an investigation of the figures.
