Book Israel the Church and Millenarianism

Download or read book Israel the Church and Millenarianism written by Steven D. Aguzzi and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-28 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the calls of the Second Vatican Council, Roman Catholic theologians have sought to overcome an overarching problem facing Jewish–Christian relations, the concept of "supersessionism"; the idea that God has revoked the spiritual and historical promises made to the Jewish people in favour of granting those same privileges to a predominantly Gentile Church. Israel, the Church, and Millenarianism breaks new ground by applying an ancient principle to the problem of Israel’s "replacement": the early Church’s promotion of millennialism. Utilizing the best in Patristic research, Aguzzi argues that these earliest Christian traditions made room for the future of Israel because Christ’s reign in the Church was viewed as provisional to his historical reign on earth—Israel’s role in salvation history was and is not yet complete. Aguzzi’s research also opens the door for a greater Catholic understanding of the millennial principle, not shying away from its validity and relevance for understanding the importance of safeguarding Jewish particularity, while concluding that the Synagogue and the Church are indeed on a parallel trajectory; "...what will their...[Israel’s]...acceptance be but life from the dead?" (Romans 11:15). Ultimately, the divine will is fulfilled through both Christian and Jewish means, in history, while each community is dependent, in different ways, upon the unfolding of God’s future and the coming Parousia of Christ.

Book Blood Moon

  • Release : 2014-05-09
  • ISBN : 9781495239571
  • Pages : 340 pages

Download or read book Blood Moon written by S. Douglas Woodward and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-05-09 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are the blood moons of 2014-2015 portents of pending calamitous events in the Middle East? Are they true harbingers of doomsday? Is the apocalypse foretold in the books of Daniel and Revelation coming to pass in our lifetime? Just how important is belief in the return of Jesus Christ to the Christian faith? Does Bible Prophecy have any relevance to the way Christians live their lives in the twenty-first century? What did Jesus mean by the coming of the Kingdom of God? Are there authentic heavenly signs of the apocalypse that can tell us when the end of the age is?S. Douglas Woodward, best-selling author of seven books on eschatology, theology, and the religious history of America brings his acute analytical skill and decades of biblical study to the hot topic of the 'blood moon' prophecies. His effort brings a mature, seasoned perspective to this subject and as such, delivers an enduring classic on eschatology destined to be a cherished inspirational resource and vital prophetic reference for many years to come. In Blood Moon: Biblical Signs of the Apocalypse, Woodward examines the Blood Moon Prophecy as articulated by Mark Biltz and John Hagee. He also evaluates the criticisms of Mark Hitchcock and Chris White. Woodward finds a middle ground, identifying why the Blood Moon Prophecy is likely to be authentic, but cautions against accepting its validity without the test of time. Woodward points out many reasons to find cause for belief and many reasons that it legitimately could be questioned.Woodward evaluates the nature of biblical signs by studying the phrase signs and wonders as used in both the Old Testament (Hebrew and Aramaic) and in the New Testament (Greek). He also evaluates the issues of whether biblical signs of the apocalypse must all be supernatural--showing why many may be 'natural' in terms of astronomical events that are unusual but not paranormal acts of God.The heart of the book, however, is an apologetic for why the study and adherence to the Kingdom of God (and the apocalypse it implies) is mandated by the words of Jesus Christ. His followers MUST keep watch--always. He finds surprising corroboration in modern liberal theology and disconcerting denials in evangelicalism. Woodward professes belief in the Pre-Tribulation Rapture of the Church. In Blood Moon, he argues forcefully for this interpretation of the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, yet shows respect for alternative views not in agreement with his.Likewise, Woodward affirms faith in what is known as the 'Ruin and Restoration' Theory for God's creation (aka The Gap Theory). Readers will find substantial evidence for this point of view from an analysis of 2 Peter's statement concerning 'scoffers' in the last days and why Peter used this perspective to strengthen the argument for the apocalypse and the coming of Christ to establish His Kingdom here on earth.Blood Moon is a consummate prophecy book--perhaps the most well-written argument for the importance of biblical prophecy to the Christian faith that has been written in the past several decades. After reading this book, those fascinated by eschatology will understand exactly why their preoccupation with prophetic subjects is perfectly in line with the admonitions of the gospel.Of all the books on the blood moon prophecy, Woodward's will be the most memorable and influential over the long term. It is a must read for all students of eschatology. Like his other books, readers will want to return to it again and again, not because it is hard to follow, but because it is jam packed with so much information.

Book excerpt: This book is based on the postmedieval journal special issue Prophetic Futures. It calls for renewed attention to prophecy and temporality, challenging in the process critical lenses that adhere to strict dualities of medieval/modern, superstitious/rationalized, and other problematic dyads that occlude our understanding of vatic language. The language, texts, and bodies of prophecy challenge commonplaces about a disenchanted modernity and point the way to new critical approaches to texts out of time. Book excerpt: P R O P H E T I C FORCE ...is a bold effort at declassification of the subject of eschatology, a branch of Christian theology that deals with the last things; the rapture of the saints, millennial reign of Jesus Christ, destruction of the earth, concept and consequence of judgements and bases of rewards. Its real emphasis is on personal revival and holy living which the study of such subject should provoke in the community of believers. It endorses the finality of the position of the Bible on all issues, upholds the values of eternal life and urges readiness for heaven by which intellectual appreciation of the subject will not be more than a desirable by-product. The book builds a strong link between various doctrines of the Bible and the ultimate purpose they are meant to serve in a simplified and authoritative manner. Its comprehensive coverage of the subject, its broad-based and open-minded approach to the treatment of issues, its analysis of current developments on worlds social, political and religious theatres, its blending of contending theories and unbiased resolution of cloudy portions of the course have combined to strengthen its appeal to those who seek sound understanding of the controversial subject. P R O P H E T I C FORCE Presents the Factual Realms of Prophecies and Passionately Explores Current Events that are Fulfilling End Time Prophecies Conveys the Imperatives for Expectant Christian Living Offers Bold and Objective Resolution of Controversies The book ... is a compilation of sound teachings on eschatology in a way that the Church has yet to have it; an all-inclusive coverage of the subject and potent armour of truth to withstand falsehood that has filtered into the Church from several directions on the account of the cloudy subject - Pastor Michael Adeoye

Download or read book True Christianity written by J. Russell Frazier and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2014-01-22 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John William Fletcher (1729-1785) was a seminal theologian during the early methodist movement and the Church of England in the eighteenth century. Best known for the Checks to Antinomianism, he worked out a theology of history to defend the church against the encroachment of antinomianism as a polemic against hyper-Calvinism, whose system of divine fiat and finished salvation, Fletcher believed, did not take seriously enough either the activity of God in salvation history or an individual believer's personal progress in salvation. Fletcher made the doctrine of accommodation a unifying principle of his theological system and further developed the doctrine of divine accommodation into a theology of ministry. As God accommodated divine revelation to the frailties of human beings, ministers of the gospel must accommodate the gospel to their hearers in order to gain a hearing for the gospel without losing the goal of true Christianity. This book contains insights for pastors, missionaries, and Christian thinkers on true Christianity from Fletcher, who devoted himself, according to Wesley, to being "an altogether Christian.
