Book Pictorial Communication In Real And Virtual Environments

Download or read book Pictorial Communication In Real And Virtual Environments written by Stephen Ellis and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2003-09-02 with total page 651 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances in the quality and accessibility of computer graphics has provided new pictorial displays and the tools with which to control them. These new display technologies have focused interest on how to design the static and dynamic images they produce to ensure effective communication. This book, based on the conference on Spatial Displays and Spatial instruments held at the Asilomar Conference Centre in 1987, focuses on the geometry of this communication. It is intended to be a source book of theoretical analysis, experimental demonstrations and practical examples from a range of contributors interested in pictorial communication, from medical artists to astronauts. The book offers the theoretical background and practical guidance needed by designers of contemporary 2D and 3D graphical computer interfaces. Its major contribution lies in its outlining of the elements of human perception and motor control which underlie the geometric design of head-mounted graphics for virtual reality displays.

Book Human Perception of Visual Information

Download or read book Human Perception of Visual Information written by Bogdan Ionescu and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-01-01 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent years have witnessed important advancements in our understanding of the psychological underpinnings of subjective properties of visual information, such as aesthetics, memorability, or induced emotions. Concurrently, computational models of objective visual properties such as semantic labelling and geometric relationships have made significant breakthroughs using the latest achievements in machine learning and large-scale data collection. There has also been limited but important work exploiting these breakthroughs to improve computational modelling of subjective visual properties. The time is ripe to explore how advances in both of these fields of study can be mutually enriching and lead to further progress. This book combines perspectives from psychology and machine learning to showcase a new, unified understanding of how images and videos influence high-level visual perception - particularly interestingness, affective values and emotions, aesthetic values, memorability, novelty, complexity, visual composition and stylistic attributes, and creativity. These human-based metrics are interesting for a very broad range of current applications, ranging from content retrieval and search, storytelling, to targeted advertising, education and learning, and content filtering. Work already exists in the literature that studies the psychological aspects of these notions or investigates potential correlations between two or more of these human concepts. Attempts at building computational models capable of predicting such notions can also be found, using state-of-the-art machine learning techniques. Nevertheless their performance proves that there is still room for improvement, as the tasks are by nature highly challenging and multifaceted, requiring thought on both the psychological implications of the human concepts, as well as their translation to machines.

Book Shape Perception in Human and Computer Vision

Download or read book Shape Perception in Human and Computer Vision written by Sven J. Dickinson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 505 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive and authoritative text/reference presents a unique, multidisciplinary perspective on Shape Perception in Human and Computer Vision. Rather than focusing purely on the state of the art, the book provides viewpoints from world-class researchers reflecting broadly on the issues that have shaped the field. Drawing upon many years of experience, each contributor discusses the trends followed and the progress made, in addition to identifying the major challenges that still lie ahead. Topics and features: examines each topic from a range of viewpoints, rather than promoting a specific paradigm; discusses topics on contours, shape hierarchies, shape grammars, shape priors, and 3D shape inference; reviews issues relating to surfaces, invariants, parts, multiple views, learning, simplicity, shape constancy and shape illusions; addresses concepts from the historically separate disciplines of computer vision and human vision using the same “language” and methods.

Download or read book Visual Computing written by Tosiyasu L. Kunii and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 926 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents the proceedings of the 10th International Conference of the Computer Graphics Society, CG International '92, Visual Computing - Integrating Computer Graphics with Computer Vision -, held at Kogakuin University, Tokyo in Japan from June 22-26,1992. Since its foundation in 1983, this conference has continued to attract high quality research articles in all aspects of computer graphics and its applications. Previous conferences in this series were held in Japan (1983-1987), in Switzerland (1988), in the United Kingdom (1989), in Singapore (1990), and in the United States of America (1991). Future CG International conferences are planned in Switzerland (1993), in Australia (1994), and in the United Kingdom (1995). It has been the editor's dream to research the integration of computer graphics with computer vision through data structures. The conference the editor put together in Los Angeles in 1975 involving the UCLA and IEEE Computer Societies had to spell out these three areas explicitly in the conference title, "computer graphics," "pattern recognition" and "data structures," as well as in the title of the proceedings published by IEEE Computer Society Press. In 1985, the editor gave the name "visual computer" to machines having all the three functionalities as seen in the journal under that name from Springer. Finally, the research in integrating visual information processing has now reached reality as seen in this proceedings of CG International '92. Chapters on virtual reality, and on tools and environments provide examples.

Book Visual Perception Through Video Imagery

Download or read book Visual Perception Through Video Imagery written by Michel Dhome and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-03-01 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For several decades researchers have tried to construct perception systems based on the registration data from video cameras. This work has produced various tools that have made recent advances possible in this area. Part 1 of this book deals with the problem of the calibration and auto-calibration of video captures. Part 2 is essentially concerned with the estimation of the relative object/capture position when a priori information is introduced (the CAD model of the object). Finally, Part 3 discusses the inference of density information and the shape recognition in images.
