This book was released on 2017-10-28 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Guide to the Numismatic Collection of the Mint of the United States at Philadelphia, Pa Sir: The need has long been felt of a small descri tive guide book which could be sold to visitors to the Numismatic ollection in the Philadelphia Mint. A year ago a complete catalogue of the collec tion, a book of 600 pages, was published, which sells at $1, and public interest in it has justlfied the publication. This, however, does not fully satisfy the want. There are thousands of visitors annually who would be served and instructed by a small pamphlet that might be sold for much less than the price of the catalogue, and the usefulness of the collection would be greatly enhanced thereby. The cop for such a pamphlet has been pre ared by the curator, Mr. T. L. Gom parette, an is now submltte with the recommendation that an edition be printed and offered for sale at the Mint and through the Superintendent of Documents at Washington. Book United States Mint in Philadelphia The

Download or read book United States Mint in Philadelphia The written by Joshua McMorrow-Hernandez and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2018 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "As the ink was drying on the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and other documents that established the United States, millions of Americans hungered for new legal tender coinage from the young sovereign nation. Following calls by Alexander Hamilton and other Founding Fathers for the nation to issue its own money, Congress passed legislation to officially establish the United States Mint in 1792. Growing from its humble beginnings as a collection of small buildings in the nation's onetime capital city of Philadelphia, the United States Mint now stands along Independence National Historical Park as the largest coin factory in the world. While the Philadelphia Mint is one of several official United States coin manufacturing facilities, it remains the heart of coining operations in the nation and is also one of the most popular attractions in "The City of Brotherly Love"."--Back cover.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Visitors' Guide Book to Philadelphia: Including the Points of Historical Interest, Hotels, Municipal and Federal Buildings, Colleges, Libraries, Museums, Hospitals, Asylums, Parks, Places of Amusement, Clubs, Commercial and Mercantile Organizations, Churches and the Great Industrial Plants The new city-founder doubtless thought that he was providing amply for the metropolis he had in view when he laid out a site from river to river two miles in extent, and one mile in width to north and south. It would have been like a dream of Aladdin to fancy a city like that which now exists, 129 square miles in area, 22 miles in extreme length and with a width varying from five to six miles. This is what the two square miles devised by Penn have become. Of course, much the greater part of this broad area is not closely covered with buildings, but its rural section is in a measure occupied by partly de tached towns and Villages, outlying parts of the great city near at hand and the rule Of which extends over the whole region.
