Book excerpt: Excerpt from Visions in Verse: Or Dreams of Creation and Redemption A vexed question with the thoughtful Christian mind has continually been, - Why has God created man in a state of being exposed to certain sorrow and sin, as well as eternal peril; thro' which he must make his way to a purified and joyous existence, or fail of its attainment? Why has He not formed man originally fit for a holy and happy eternity? Hypothetical solutions of this problem, like that set forth in our volume, should have, at least, the advantage of showing that there may be some very good reason for our probationary state; either the one presented or some other, which faith can anticipate or the light of eternity reveal. Our Book also attempts to snatch spiritual glimpses of the great Drama of Christian Redemption in the past and future development of Man, and Earth his habitation, together with Angel-ministries in human affairs. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Visions for Missionaries and Others This is simply a collection of Scripture Messages published in the Mission Field between 1906 and 1909, a previous volume having been published with the above title. The office I hold bids me enter daily into the trials and joys of many persons in many lands, all engaged in one work. And I have attempted, in some of the following pages, to expound Scripture through the medium of human lives as they prove by experience the truth of the written Word. It may be that here and there heart may answer to heart, albeit my characters are all of them creatures of imagination: yet none the less I. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Voices and Visions: A Collection of Verse, Chiefly Occasional To the Lady of the Flowers Fair in thy garden of the golden years, Amid thy flowers - the red, red rose of cheer, The white roses of gentleness and patience, And the lilies of charity and faith - I see thee stand, transfigured in the pale Penumbra of the dying day, a flower Amid thy flowers. Above the dreaming hills The star of love shines in the luminous west, And through the stilly air from days afar The bells of memory peal a silver chime. Still die in melody and swell again, Dear cadences, that hearkening we may know Once more the sweetness of the days far past, The long, serene, clear shining Summer days, Wherein we walked through scented meadows starred With ox-eyed daisies, or along the cool, Fresh woodland ways with clustering locust blooms O'erhung. O Lady of the Flowers, still Thy full-brown lilies and thy garden's pride Like humbler wildflowers plucked beside the way. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Bible Vision, Vol. 2: November, 1937 I have already spoken of Elijah, that wonderful preacher and evangelist. Let me mention one more, the evangelist Jonah. There is no preacher in history whose sermon produced results so quick ly, changing a whole city in a few days' time. He preached God's judgment, and that is one thing that we must bring back into our sermons today. There has been very little of it in modern preach ing; as a result people are careless and indifferent. It has gone with modern preaching as Joseph Parker of London said about forty years ago - Hell gone; the devil gone; and God going. Another great evangelist was John the Baptist. He didn't go to the people. They came to him. He didn't have a church - all classes came to the Jordan river. But he didn't know the Gospel, someone says. Oh, he knew it better than anyone else at that time, for he said of Jesus: This is the Lamb of God that taketh away the sin of the world. Download or read book Ragnarok written by Arthur M Crofton and published by . This book was released on 2020-02-19 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally Published 1919. A book of prose and Bible verses that evoke visions of the Christian Apocalypse through the lens of Scandinavian Mythology, specifically the foretold great cataclysm and end of the world called "Ragnarok". About the Author: Arthur M Crofton. Not much is known about Mr. Crofton other than he was a devote Christian who lived in Canada and had an intense interest in Norse Mythology. His son also fought in World War 1. Perhaps the looming mortality of his child spurred on the creation of this relatively short book. INTRODUCTION BY THE AUTHOR. The following verses are published, in the hope that people, by reading them and the corresponding portions of the Bible, may realize that while the world and its interests are passing, the realities of God and his attributes will last forever, and that it is important to endeavor to please God, so that with belief in Christ and his redemption, they may obtain mercy in the last day, and be partakers of joys hereafter. It would almost be blasphemy for a man to state what is to happen at "The Great day of His Wrath" unless he were an inspired prophet. But this poem is only written to bring possibilities before the people, which may cause them to read the Bible and to follow the teachings of Christ, and with the hope of mercy to await Chris's second coming.
