Book The Leadership Challenge Vision Book

Download or read book The Leadership Challenge Vision Book written by James M. Kouzes and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2010-06-21 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An Innovative Tool for Enhancing Vision Skills Throughout 25 years of leadership research, bestselling Leadership Challenge authors Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner have consistently found that Inspire a Shared Vision is the practice that differentiates leaders from other credible people. They've also found that, for most leaders, it is the toughest practice. Vision is one of those words that evokes ridicule and awe, cynicism and mystery, confusion and inspiration. It's one of the most misunderstood words in the leadership lexicon. In The Leadership Challenge, vision is defined as: An IDEAL and UNIQUE IMAGE of the FUTURE for the COMMON GOOD This hands-on workbook is designed to help you get more comfortable and stronger at Inspiring a Shared Vision. It will guide you through the process of developing a clearer picture of that ideal future, and then it will help you to communicate it more effectively to those who can help you implement it. In addition, the workbook contains sections that will enable you to make your team a more forward-thinking group and your organization a more visionary place. And because visions are co-created and shared, there is a section on how to build visionary skills in others. Following the step-by-step process outlined in the book you will be able to: Draft an effective vision statement Craft a persuasive vision presentation Test the presentation Create different versions of the presentation to suit the audience/situation Seek feedback from your audience and evaluate your vision effectiveness Each section contains activities to help you focus on the skills needed to become more adept at looking ahead and creating the workplace and the world you would like to see.

From LinkedIn Learning Expert, Bonnie Hagemann comes the first book devoted entirely to vision as a key leadership principle. Book excerpt: Visionary Leaders Wanted Visionary Leaders are a rare breath of fresh air in today's organizations. Execution skills are a must; no doubt, yet when we look into our leadership bench we will find more of those who can execute and less of those who can envision a much more strategically advantageous and enriching future for the organization. Oftentimes, visionary leaders are not around at all. Fortunately, some leaders are naturally inclined to think strategically a number of years ahead and envision what the future looks like and then come back and describe it to the rest of the organization in vivid visual detail. Not only that but do it in a way that connects our history, our present and our future, inspires us to take bold action, shows us the way, and leads us confidently forward. Other leaders can definitely learn this skill and thrive. This workbook is a fill-in-the blanks vision development template. Use it to develop your vision and lay out next steps you need to take to transform it into your vision speech and other communications with your teams throughout your organization. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Leaders of congregations want to foster change but how is rarely obvious. Some pursue top-down approaches while others think bottom-up. Either approach assumes some control by the leader, but effective leadership of change needs more than control; it requires influencing the ongoing change that is naturally occurring. In the organizational literature this matter is understood in terms of systems and more specifically complex adaptive systems or self-organizing systems. This literature has important insights for church leaders when viewed in tandem with biblical principles. These concepts are presented here within the story of a mid-career pastor who is frustrated by his complacent congregation and is seeking a new way forward. Information on complex adaptive systems is presented in the context of the story of his interactions with a church consultant, a seminary professor, some published materials and an ongoing seminar conducted by the consultant. The pastor's engaging issue is whether change in a church is best pursued top-down or bottom-up. Within this context, self-organizing change becomes the central focus of the book and eventually is distinguished from both top-down and bottom-up initiatives. The focus is understanding the connection between such change and biblical principles.

Book Network Theory in the Public Sector

Download or read book Network Theory in the Public Sector written by Robyn Keast and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-23 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Networks have been described in terms of metaphors, governance arrangements and structural or institutional arrangements. These different perspectives of networks come out of a variety of disciplines, including political science, public administration, urban affairs, social welfare, public management and organizational/sociological research. This wealth of research, while contributing to a deeper understanding of networks, presents a dilemma which is addressed by this book. That is the question of whether there is a theory of public networks that informs networks in their various forms, and is there a need for a new theory of networks? More importantly, is network research still relevant to practice? Does network theory improve the process of governance? Are different terms and/or approaches actually the same or different? What do these different approaches mean to theory? This book deeply explores and integrates existing network theory and related theories from a number of perspectives, levels and jurisdictions to develop a framework to guide network design, governance and management. The book focuses on the important issue of network performance, looking at networks as bounded and consciously arranged; the actors who participate in them design the relationships among a bounded set of individual organizations to purse common objectives. Finally, the chapters tease out the variety of governance modes or regimes that intersect with network governance. This book offers a comprehensive, integrative, interdisciplinary approach that enables specialists, practitioners and administrators across a wide array of interests and fields to formulate and work on problems using a common language, analytical framework and theoretical basis.

Download or read book Imperfect Leadership written by Steve Munby and published by Crown House Publishing Ltd. This book was released on 2019-07-09 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Imperfect Leadership: A book for leaders who know they don't know it all, Steve Munby eloquently reflects upon and describes a leadership approach that is strong on self-awareness and positive about the importance of asking for help. Foreword by Michael Fullan. When asked to describe his own leadership style, Steve uses the word 'imperfect' . This is not something he apologises for; he feels imperfect leadership should be celebrated. Too often we are given examples of leaders who are put on some kind of pedestal, lauded as superheroes who have it all worked out and are so good at what they do that nobody else can come close. This book is the antidote to that flawed perception. Imperfect Leadership is an honest reflection upon leadership. It is about Steve's journey, covering his highs and lows and, ultimately, how he learned to refine and improve his leadership. It is about messy, trial-and-error, butterflies-in-the-stomach leadership and about thoughtful and invitational leadership - and the positive impact it can have. At the heart of the book are edited highlights of the 12 keynote speeches delivered to increasingly large audiences of school leaders between 2005 and 2017. These speeches, delivered at the Seizing Success and Inspiring Leadership conferences, form the structure around which Steve's story and insights are wrapped. Steve's account covers some fundamental shifts in the English education system over this 12-year period and describes how school leaders altered their leadership as this context changed. Furthermore, it delves into how his own leadership developed as his personal context changed, and explores how the notion that a leader needs to be good at all aspects of leadership is not only unrealistic, but is also bad for the mental and physical health of leaders and will do nothing to attract new people into leadership positions. Ultimately, Steve hopes that as you read this book you will see the value of imperfect leadership and of the positive impact it can make. For those reading it who have yet to step up into leadership, his sincere wish is that it will encourage and empower aspirational leaders rather than discourage them. Suitable for all those in or aspiring to leadership positions in education.
