Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An Ivorybill in Arkansas, which human guilt has conjured up from extinction; mud daubers toting “stunned spiders” to their nests on a screened porch in Louisiana; a whale shark off the Yucatan whose spots tell its story in indecipherable Braille; conchs harvested from an undersea garden in the Caymans; stray dogs in Athens, ancient gods in disguise—the lives of these creatures and others entwine with ours in The Garden of the Fugitives. Loosely based on the story of Eve, this collection of poems takes the reader from Eden into a fallen world. Exploring the tense relationships between women and men, mothers and daughters, and human beings and other species, these poems lead to Pompeii’s memorial to the “ash people” in The Garden of the Fugitives, where parents and children, inside their husks of plaster, never stop dying to the singing of bees. WISTERIA Oozing perfume, the vine kills exquisitely in such high style. The trees have no idea what’s happening to them.

This book was released on 2019-01-17 with total page 742 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever" (Daniel 2:44). The message of Daniel is that Jesus the Messiah is now ruling over the nations. Daniel tells us that Messiah's kingdom will advance in the whole world from "generation to generation" (Daniel 4:4,34). Christ's dominion is "given to the people of the saints of the most High" (Daniel 7:22). Our purpose then is to see "all people, nations, and languages serve and obey him" (Daniel 7:14,27). "This meticulously researched and thorough treatment of Daniel from a preterist perspective includes over 700 pages of commentary, historical background and setting, New Testament allusions, and much more. It is enhanced with charts, tables, maps, illustrations, and topped off with helpful, thorough indexes." - Kenneth L. Gentry, Jr., Th.D.

Book excerpt: A book that will have one cognizant of whatever dark, and bleak circumstances or situations one may be in, and eventually will find themselves in, the answer was here before any problem existed. The discovery and importance of not wasting time and energy concentrating on the problem, it's a waste of time, knowing the answer is never found in the problem it's always revealed in the answer. The search for significance to discover the real you which lives inside of you, that only God the Father can reveal unto you of who you were predestined, ordained, and anointed to be. You'll be taken on a fascinating and exciting journey in your inner most being where you'll locate hidden treasures and gifts, God has deposited inside of you like fireworks ready to explode and reveal the greatness inside of you. This book is filled with the Word of God, and will renew you in the spirit of your mind. You'll begin to look at problems as preparation, trouble, as training and transition, and if one is a doer of the Word and not a hearer only it will transform one into the more than conqueror and overcomer God has created us to be in Jesus Christ! May your testimony inspire readers to know the testimony of Jesus Christ: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. Blessed is he that reads, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand. As you prophesy before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings: may this book be like the little book of Revelation 10 when eaten makes the belly bitter, but it shall be in your mouth sweet as honey. Your fellow servant and of your brethren and father in the faith that have the testimony of Jesus. Pastor Houseworth Gary, Indiana

Book Neurovision Neural bases of binocular vision and coordination and their implications in visual training programs

Download or read book Neurovision Neural bases of binocular vision and coordination and their implications in visual training programs written by Olivier A. Coubard and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2015-10-12 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Binocular vision is achieved by five neurovisual systems originating in the retina but varying in their destination within the brain. Two systems have been widely studied: the retino-tectal or retino-collicular route, which subserves an expedient and raw estimate of the visual scene through the magnocellular pathway, and the retino-occipital or retino-cortical route, which allows slower but refined analysis of the visual scene through the parvocellular pathway. But there also exist further neurovisual systems: the retino-hypothalamic, retino-pretectal, and accessory optic systems, which play a crucial role in vision though they are less understood. The retino-pretectal pathway projecting onto the pretectum is critical for the pupillary or photomotor reflex. The retino-hypothalamic pathway projecting onto the suprachiasmatic nucleus regulates numerous behavioral and biological functions as well as circadian rhythms. The accessory optic system targeting terminal lateral, medial and dorsal nuclei through the paraoptic fasciculus plays a role in head and gaze orientation as well as slow movements. Taken together, these neurovisual systems involve 60% of brain activity, thus highlighting the importance of vision in the functioning and regulation of the central nervous system. But vision is first and foremost action, which makes perception impossible without movement. Binocular coordination is a prerequisite for binocular fusion of the object of interest on the two foveas, thus ensuring visual perception. The retino-collicular pathway is sufficient to elicit reflexive eye movements with short latencies. Thanks to its motor neurons, the superior colliculus activates premotor neurons, which themselves activate motor neurons of the oculomotor, trochlear and abducens nuclei. At a higher level, a cascade of neural mechanisms participates in the control of decisional eye movements. The superior colliculus is controlled by the substancia nigra pars reticulata, which is itself gated by subcortical structures such as the dorsal striatum. The superior colliculus is also inhibited by the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex through a direct prefrontotectal tract. Cortical areas are crucial for the triggering of eye movements: the frontal eye field, supplementary eye field, and parietal eye field. Finally the cerebellum maintains accuracy. The focus of the present research topic, entitled Neural bases of binocular vision and coordination and their implications in visual training programs, is to review the most recent findings in brain imaging and neurophysiology of binocular vision and coordination in humans and animals with frontally-placed eyes. The emphasis is put on studies that enable transfer of knowledge toward visual training programs targeting visual field defects (e.g., hemianopia) and binocular functional disorders (e.g., amblyopia).

Book excerpt: On behalf of the organizing committee, we would like to welcome you to Da- nd stadt and DAGM 2010,the 32 Annual Symposium of the German Association for Pattern Recognition. The technical program covered all aspects of pattern recognition and, to name only a few areas, ranged from 3D reconstruction, to object recognition and medical applications. The result is re?ected in these proceedings, which contain the papers presented at DAGM 2010. Our call for papers resulted in 134 submissions from institutions in 21 countries. Each paper underwent a rigorous reviewing process and was assigned to at least three program committee m- bers for review. The reviewing phase was followed by a discussion phase among the respective program committee members in order to suggest papers for - ceptance. The ?nal decision was taken during a program committee meeting held in Darmstadt based on all reviews, the discussion results and, if necessary, additional reviewing. Based on this rigorous process we selected a total of 57 papers, corresponding to an acceptance rate of below 45%. Out of all accepted papers, 24 were chosen for oral and 33 for poster presentation. All accepted - pers have been published in these proceedings and given the same number of pages. We would like to thank all members of the program committee as well as the external reviewers for their valuable and highly appreciated contribution to the community.
