Book Viscoelastic Properties of Heterophase Blends of Homopolymers and Block Copolymers

Download or read book Viscoelastic Properties of Heterophase Blends of Homopolymers and Block Copolymers written by G. Choi and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stress relaxation and dynamic mechanical measurements were carried out for two types of heterophase polyblends. One is obtained by blending homopolymers of butadiene and styrene (high impact polystyrene of HIPS); the other by blending homopolymer of butadiene with a triblock copolymer of styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS/B). It was found that for HIPS, time temperature superposition is difficult, and the shift factors cannot be adequately interpreted by a reasonable model. For SBS/B it is impossible to carry out superposition. Possible mechanisms giving rise to the new transition are discussed. (Author).

Book Viscoelastic Properties of Homopolymers and Diblocic Copolymers of Polybutadiene and Polyisoprene

Download or read book Viscoelastic Properties of Homopolymers and Diblocic Copolymers of Polybutadiene and Polyisoprene written by R. E. Cohen and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three diblock copolymers of cis-1-4 polyisoprene (IR) and 1-4 polybutadiene (BR) have been studied in dynamic mechanical experiments, transmission electron microscopy and thermomechanical analysis. The block copolymers had molar ratios of 1/2, 1/1 and 2/1 for the isoprene and butadiene blocks. Homopolymers of polybutadiene and polyisoprene with various diene microstructures were also examined using similar experimental methods. Results indicate that in all three copolymers the polybutadiene and polyisoprene blocks are essentially compatible, whereas blends of homopolymers of similar molecular weights and microstructures were incompatible. Book Nanostructures and Properties of Blends of Homopolymer and Elastomeric Block Copolymer Nanoparticles

Download or read book Nanostructures and Properties of Blends of Homopolymer and Elastomeric Block Copolymer Nanoparticles written by Sungwon Ma and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nanostructures and properties of blends of homopolymer and elastomeric block copolymer nanoparticles were studied focusing on the effect of morphology and the viscoelastic properties on blends. The cylindrical and lamellar morphology of PS-b-PI copolymer was employed to generate the morphology of elastomeric nanoparticles such as nanofiber and nanosheet. The particles were synthesized using cold vulcanization process. The vulcanization process using sulfur monochloride (S2Cl2) was used to preserve the morphologies. The crosslinking density of block copolymer was controlled by exposure time of crosslinking agent in the chamber. The blend samples for DMA and rheometer were prepared using solvent casting process. The diameter and thickness of nanofiber and nanosheet obtained by the process were ~40 nm and ~70 nm, respectively. The rheological and dynamic mechanical properties of the blends of polystyrene (PS) and elastomeric nanoparticles were studied in terms of morphology and crosslinking density. The effect of core PI size also investigated and discussed. Based on these viscoelastic results, the theoretical percolation threshold was calculated and compared with experimental results. It is demonstrated that block copolymer is a facile method to generate elastomeric nanoparticles using cold vulcanization and viscoelastic properties can be tuned with addition of nanoparticles.

Book Time dependent Morphologies and Viscoelastic Properties of Block Copolymers

Download or read book Time dependent Morphologies and Viscoelastic Properties of Block Copolymers written by Jeffrey Carl Kelterborn and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dynamic mechanical properties of block copolymers over a wide temperature range have been previously correlated with the phase-separated microstructure of these systems. In the present work the morphology of the block copolymer is altered by large tensile deformation at various temperatures. Upon removal of the applied stress the morphological features of such stretched-and-released systems become functions of time, as the non-equilibrium microstructure reverts to a thermodynamically stable state. This reformation process is monitored by dynamic mechanical measurements with a modified torsion pendulum capable of applying both tensile and torsional deformation. Experimental results are analyzed using a modified Nielsen model to obtain information on the time-dependent structural state of the samples. These results are then compared with stress-strain curves to provide further insight into the structure breakdown-reformation mechanisms. Two competing mechanisms, domain fracture and block pull out, are proposed to explain these experimental observations. (Author).

Book Viscoelastic Properties of Homogeneous Block Copolymers

Download or read book Viscoelastic Properties of Homogeneous Block Copolymers written by M. Shen and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The molecular theory of Rouse-Bueche-Zimm has been modified to predict the viscoelastic behavior of homogeneous block copolymers. The model consists of beads and springs whose magnitudes correspond to the types of blocks in the polymer. Maximum relaxation times can be computed by this model. Viscoelastic data for poly(styrene-b-alpha-methylstyrene-b-styrene), poly(alpha-methylstyrene-b-styrene-b-alpha-methylstyrene) and poly(styrene-b-alpha-methylstryrene) were determined by stress relaxation methods. The results compare favorably with those predicted by the theory. (Author).
