Book Viner S View

Download or read book Viner S View written by Spencer W. Viner and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2017-05-25 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If only my parents were still here to answer the questions that I have, answers that no one else would know. How often do we all say something like this and wish that our parents had recorded their histories for future generations: the family tree, their travels, life experiences, dreams, disappointments, achievements, and failures. Its what makes all of our journeys unique and worthy of passing along to our children so that they may know what made us who we are today. Viners View is my answer to those questions, written for my children and grandchildren. Although every question cannot be anticipated, I have recorded my journey from childhood to retirement in the hopes that they know about my life experiences, and the lessons learned from each, so no mystery remains. The events, people, places, and experiences that had a profound effect on my life are recorded here. From Vietnam to the United States Supreme Court, the practice of law to politics, organized labor to the mob: all changed my life in a way that only I can accurately portray.

Book Jacob Viner

Download or read book Jacob Viner written by Douglas A. Irwin and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-05 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents, for the first time, a detailed transcription of Jacob Viner's Economics 301 class as taught in 1930. These lecture notes provide insight into the legacy of Jacob Viner, whose seminal contributions to fields such as international economics and the history of economics are well known, but whose impact in sparking the revival of Marshallian microeconomics in the United States via his classroom teaching has been less appreciated.Generations of graduate students at the University of Chicago have taken Economics 301. The course has been taught by such luminaries as Milton Friedman and Gary Becker, and remains an introduction to the analytical tools of microeconomics and the distinctive Chicago way of thinking about the market system. This demanding and rigorous course first became famous in the 1930s when it was taught by Jacob Viner. When read in tandem with the Transaction editions of Milton Friedman's Price Theory, Frank Knight's The Economic Organization, and Gary Becker's Economic Theory, Viner's lectures provide the reader with important insights into the formative period of Chicago price theory. These recently discovered notes from Viner's class will be important for historians of economic thought and anyone interested in the origins of the Chicago School of Economics.

Book Mercantilism

Download or read book Mercantilism written by Eli F. Heckscher and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-11-05 with total page 731 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eli Heckscher's Mercantilism is a classic work in the history of economic thought, economic history and international economics. A pioneer in both economic history and trade theory, Heckscher brought a unique breadth to this study. Covering all of the major European countries, the book explores the content and significance of mercantilist ideas over nearly two centuries. Acknowledging the difficulties involved in defining mercantilism, Heckscher nonetheless succeeded in identifying a set of its key characteristics. Now available for the first time in many years, Mercantilism remains singularly relevant to a world preoccupied with maintaining its trading order. Hecksher's full text, notes and supporting material are supplemented by a new introduction by Lars Magnusson which discusses the origin, content and impact of the book.

Book Ordoliberalism Law and the Rule of Economics

Download or read book Ordoliberalism Law and the Rule of Economics written by Josef Hien and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2017-12-28 with total page 568 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ordoliberalism is a theoretical and cultural tradition of significant societal and political impact in post-war Germany. For a long time the theory was only known outside Germany by a handful of experts, but ordoliberalism has now moved centre stage after the advent of the financial crisis, and has become widely perceived as the ideational source of Germany's crisis politics. In this collection, the contributors engage in a multi-faceted exploration of the conceptual history of ordoliberalism, the premises of its founding fathers in law and economics, its religious underpinnings, the debates over its theoretical assumptions and political commitments, and its formative vision of societal ordering based upon a synthesis of economic theories and legal concepts. The renewal of that vision through the ordoliberal conceptualisation of the European integration project, the challenges of the current European crisis, and the divergent perceptions of ordoliberalism within Germany and by its northern and southern EU neighbours, are a common concern of all these endeavours. They unfold interdisciplinary affinities and misunderstandings, cultural predispositions and prejudices, and political preferences and cleavages. By examining European traditions through the lens of ordoliberalism, the book illustrates the diversity of European economic cultures, and the difficulty of transnational political exchanges, in a time of European crisis.
