Book Vindications of Patriots of the American Revolution Classic Reprint

Download or read book Vindications of Patriots of the American Revolution Classic Reprint written by Jonathan Trumbull and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Vindications of Patriots of the American Revolution Since this discussion took place in a city less than a hundred miles from Hartford, it is but natural to suspect that the process known as the contagion of thought may have had something to do with it, and that the germs of this contagion may be traced to a chapter on the Loyalists in Professor Ferguson's Essays in American History. I use the word contagion in a thoroughly Pickwickian sense, fully aware that there may be such a thing as wholesome contagion, though not fully convinced that the influence in question should be classed as such. Book History of the American Revolution

Download or read book History of the American Revolution written by Samuel Farmer Wilson and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-09 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from History of the American Revolution: With a Preliminary View of the Character and Principles of the Colonists, and Their Controversies With Great Britain But on glancing into his volume, we find that our apprehensions were groundless. We have no time for critical examination into all those matters so essential to historical accuracy; but so far as we have looked at the present work, we think it decidedly successful. The author's power of analysis and arrangement, seem to be good, and his style vigorous and clear. It is a good class-book for schools. From the National Gazette. A neat duodecimo volume has just appeared in Baltimore, with the title "History of the American Revolution, with a preliminary view of the character and principles of the Colonists, and their Controversies with Great Britian." The author of it is S. F. Wilson, Esq. editor of the Baltimore American. The editorial articles of this gentleman are generally skilful epitomes; and hence we should augur favorably of his abstract of our Revolutionary annals. We have read parts of several chapters of the work, and from them we infer with the author that "it might be advantageously used in the instruction of youth." From the Pennsylvania Inquirer. "History of the American Revolution." The Baltimore booksellers have just published in a neat and substantial volume, a "History of the American Revolution," with a preliminary view of the character and principles of the Colonists, and their Controversies with Great Britain. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Beverly Privateers in the American Revolution At the opening of the War of the Revolution Beverly numbered about 3000 inhabitants. Its sea coast extended for six miles along the north shore in alternate sections of rocky point and sandy beach. Back from the shore line, from Manchester on the east to Wenham on the north and Danvers on the west, the land, broken and rolling, was dotted with farms and partly covered with pine woods. The soil was fairly fertile for New England and watered by numerous brooks. The inhabitants were farmers tilling their own farms. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A History of the American Revolution: Published in London Under the Superintendence of the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge Whilst the once persecuted Protestants thus gave a sad proof that their sufferings had not taught them mercy, it was reserved for a Roman Catholic nobleman to give to the new world a striking example of this happy docility. With what difficulties had they to struggle? What was a common error of the times? What rule of government did they establish? What became of the discontented sectarians? Book The American Revolution Vol 1 of 2 Classic Reprint

Download or read book The American Revolution Vol 1 of 2 Classic Reprint written by John Fiske and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-09 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The American Revolution, Vol. 1 of 2 In the course of my work as assistant librarian of Harvard University, about seventeen years ago, I had occasion to overhaul what we used to call the "American Room," and to superintend or revise the cataloguing of some thousands of titles of volumes and pamphlets relating to America. In the course of this work my attention was called more and more to sundry problems and speculations connected with the transplantation of European communities to American soil, their development under the new conditions, and the effect of all this upon the general progress of civilization. The study of aboriginal America itself presented many other interesting problems. In 1879, 1881, and 1882, I gave courses of lectures at the Old South Meeting-House in Boston, in aid of the fund for the preservation of that venerable building, and in pursuance of Mrs. Hemenway's scheme for making it a place for the teaching of American history. As to the success of that scheme we may now speak with some satisfaction. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Loyalist

Download or read book The Loyalist written by James Francis Barrett and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-23 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Loyalist: A Story of the American Revolution Historical facts constitute the background of this story. Its hero and its heroine are, of course, fictitious; but the deportment of General Arnold, the Shippen family, the several military and civic personages throughout the story is described, for the most part, accurately and in conformity with the sober truths of history. Pains have been taken to depict the various historical episodes which enter into the story - such as the attempted formation of the Regiment of Roman Catholic Volunteers, the court-martial of Major General Arnold, the Military Mass on the occasion of the anniversary of American Independence - with as much fidelity to truth as possible. The anti-catholic sentences, employed in the reprimand of Captain Meagher, are anachronisms; they are identical, how ever, with utterances made in the later life of Benedict Arnold. The influence of Peggy Shippen upon her husband is vouched for by eminent authority. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
