De drie uitgekozen jonge mannen ontmoeten elkaar, en vormen een onafscheidelijke groep aan de Technische Universiteit van Amsterdam. In het verhaal mogen wij een kijkje nemen achter de perfecte façade van deze drie succesrijke jonge mannen. Dit verhaaltje is de eerste van 4 delen. Hierin worden de twee verschillende werelden geïntroduceerd. De wereld van de 12dimensionals en de wereld van de drie jonge mannen. Villas verloofde: Winngadur is een bijzondere 12dimensional. Zij heeft het beheer over alle insecten in onze dimensie. In de laatste drie delen volgen wij hoe George, Samlen en Kadir min of meer bewust worden beïnvloed door de drie verschillende 12dimensionals. Samlen gaat woonbouwprojecten met sponge dorpen maken in hele Europa, George helpt Samlen en Georges vrouw wordt een vooraanstaande politicus. Kadir zal een nieuwe baanbrekende energievorm lanceren die het gebruik van fossiele brandstoffen volledig overtollig maakt. Dus ja, het is echt een mooie droom. Maar niet te mooi om waar te zijn. Wij mensen zijn gewoon zo stoer. Wij mogen geloven in elkaar.

Book excerpt: Putting on Christ aims to situate Augustine’s early soteriology and sacramental theology within the context of his personal history and intellectual development. Beginning with an extended analysis of the theology of salvation and sacramental efficacy contained within Augustine’s Confessions (ca. 400), the study then traces the maturation of his views on these matters, beginning with his earliest extant works, the Cassicacum dialogues (ca. 386). The journey entails treating Augustine’s earliest discussions of Christ’s person and his saving work, as well as the believer’s subjective experience of conversion and salvation. As Augustine’s corpus shifts from philosophical dialogues to explicitly apologetic and scriptural-exegetical works, so too does his soteriological lexicon expand to include concepts and terms that will later become his stock-in-trade, such as the virtue of humilitas. And as his roles in the North African Church come to include participation in the presbyterate and the episcopacy, so too does his engagement expand to a wider set of polemical contexts, both anti-Manichaean and anti-Donatist. Putting on Christ tracks these and many other aspects of Augustine’s maturing thought, showing where lines of both continuity and development lie and aiming to uncover their reasons. In doing so, it reveals Augustine to be a thinker and a teacher who continued to hone his understanding of salvation, the very heartbeat of Christian life and thought, as well as its relation to various other aspects of the Christian theological worldview, from Christology and anthropology to sacramental theology and ecclesiology.

Book excerpt: This book argues that touch and movement played a significant role, long overlooked, in generating perceptions of ancient material culture in the late 18th century. At this time the reception of classical antiquity had been transformed. Interactions with material culture – ruins, sculpture, and artefacts – formed the core of this transformation. Some such interactions were proto-archaeological, such as the Dilettanti expeditions to Athens and Asa Minor; others were touristic, seen in the guidebooks consulted by travellers to Rome and the diaries they composed; and others creative, resulting in novels, poetry, and dance performances. Some involved the reproduction of experience in a gallery or museum setting. What all encounters with ancient material culture had in common, however, is their haptic sensory basis. The sense typically associated with the Enlightenment is vision, but this has obscured the equally important contribution made by touch and movement to the way in which a newly materialised Graeco-Roman world was perceived. Kinaesthesia, or the sense of self-movement, is rarely recognised in its own right, but because all encounters with sites and objects are embodied, and all embodiment takes place in motion, this sense is vital to forming more abstract or imaginative impressions. Theories of embodied cognition propose that all intellectual processes are also physical. This book shows how ideas about classical antiquity in the volatile milieu of the late 18th century developed as a result of diverse kinaesthetic relationships.
