Book Video QoS QoE Over IEEE802 11n ac

Download or read book Video QoS QoE Over IEEE802 11n ac written by Rebeen R. Hama Amin and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The demand for video applications over wireless networks has tremendously increased, and IEEE 802.11 standards have provided higher support for video transmission. However, providing Quality of Service (QoS) and Quality of Experience (QoE) for video over WLAN is still a challenge due to the error sensitivity of compressed video and dynamic channels. This thesis presents a contemporary survey study on video QoS/QoE over WLAN issues and solutions. The objective of the study is to provide an overview of the issues by conducting a background study on the video codecs and their features and characteristics, followed by studying QoS and QoE support in IEEE 802.11 standards. Since IEEE 802.11n is the current standard that is mostly deployed worldwide and IEEE 802.11ac is the upcoming standard, this survey study aims to investigate the most recent video QoS/QoE solutions based on these two standards. The solutions are divided into two broad categories, academic solutions, and vendor solutions. Academic solutions are mostly based on three main layers, namely Application, Media Access Control (MAC) and Physical (PHY) which are further divided into two major categories, single-layer solutions, and cross-layer solutions. Single-layer solutions are those which focus on a single layer to enhance the video transmission performance over WLAN. Cross-layer solutions involve two or more layers to provide a single QoS solution for video over WLAN. This thesis has also presented and technically analyzed QoS solutions by three popular vendors. This thesis concludes that single-layer solutions are not directly related to video QoS/QoE, and cross-layer solutions are performing better than single-layer solutions, but they are much more complicated and not easy to be implemented. Most vendors rely on their network infrastructure to provide QoS for multimedia applications. They have their techniques and mechanisms, but the concept of providing QoS/QoE for video is almost the same because they are using the same standards and rely on Wi-Fi Multimedia (WMM) to provide QoS."--Abstract.

Book QoS Provisioning in Future Wireless Local Area Networks

Download or read book QoS Provisioning in Future Wireless Local Area Networks written by Indira Paudel and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN) are today the most popular access networking solution at homes and offices. Although initially, WLANs were designed to carry best effort traffic, users today are adopting them for various multimedia services and applications that have stringent QoS requirements. WLAN standards based on CSMA/CA technique are not able to provide QoS guarantees and furthermore lead to bad performances when the number of competing stations/flows increases. Moreover, standard QoS solutions rely on centralized approaches (e.g. PCF, HCCA) that are not widely used on terminals. The distributed approach, based on concurrent access remains fundamental in WLAN. In this thesis, we propose solutions to improve both QoS and QoE (Quality of Experience) of multimedia services over WLAN. The main contributions include proposal of an aggregation scheme that relies on QoS differentiation for different service classes. We then evaluated the QoE of video services over IEEE 802.11n networks for various radio, MAC and load conditions. Based on this study, a random neural network solution is then proposed to automate video QoE prediction from system parameters. Furthermore, an enhancement to the distributed access mechanism in IEEE 802.11 networks is also proposed. First, we proposed to select appropriate and specific Backoff values according to QoS requirements. Second, a new flow prioritization based on AIFSN (Arbitration Inter-Frame Space Number) values, allocated according to traffic load and traffic types is proposed. Through analysis, we showed that these solutions can enhance QoS and provide regular access, minimize collisions and provide better resource utilization.

This book was released on 2008-12-21 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Green Software De?ned Radios, the title of this book may have originated from a lackofinspiration, andthecombinationofhardwork, jetlag, anddrinkinggreentea. The message we want to convey however, is that SDRs are a promising technology for the future, providing they are designed for ef?cient usage of scarce resources: energy and spectrum. In the last years, the R&D teams focusing on wireless c- munication (around the world and at IMEC speci?cally), have realized great bre- throughs. It is our honor, building on this knowledge, to bring a comprehensive overview of the essential technologies. We are grateful that Springer is willing to publish in their collection on radio technologies, a book on green SDRs, a weird species still today, yet maybe the baseline for the day after tomorrow. Dear reader, we wish that you ?nd in the following pages, including the references, some int- esting insights, and that this book may live more or less up to your expectations (and hopefully more than less). Thisbook’sclosingstatesthatthequestforGreenSDRshasnotended, thisisjust the beginning. Concerning this book however, we are happy that today the opposite is true. We want to acknowledge our colleagues at IMEC for their great scienti?c contribution, and even more for the enjoyable cooperation.

Book Flying Ad Hoc Networks

Download or read book Flying Ad Hoc Networks written by Jingjing Wang and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-02-10 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Relying on unmanned autonomous flight control programs, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) equipped with radio communication devices have been actively developed around the world. Given their low cost, flexible maneuvering and unmanned operation, UAVs have been widely used in both civilian operations and military missions, including environmental monitoring, emergency communications, express distribution, even military surveillance and attacks, for example. Given that a range of standards and protocols used in terrestrial wireless networks are not applicable to UAV networks, and that some practical constraints such as battery power and no-fly zone hinder the maneuverability capability of a single UAV, we need to explore advanced communication and networking theories and methods for the sake of supporting future ultra-reliable and low-latency applications. Typically, the full potential of UAV network’s functionalities can be tapped with the aid of the cooperation of multiple drones relying on their ad hoc networking, in-network communications and coordinated control. Furthermore, some swarm intelligence models and algorithms conceived for dynamic negotiation, path programming, formation flight and task assignment of multiple cooperative drones are also beneficial in terms of extending UAV’s functionalities and coverage, as well as of increasing their efficiency. We call the networking and cooperation of multiple drones as the terminology ‘flying ad hoc network (FANET)’, and there indeed are numerous new challenges to be overcome before the idespread of so-called heterogeneous FANETs. In this book, we examine a range of technical issues in FANETs, from physical-layer channel modeling to MAC-layer resource allocation, while also introducing readers to UAV aided mobile edge computing techniques.
