Download or read book Victorian Aboriginal Affairs Framework 2013 2018 written by Victoria. Department of Planning and Community Delevelopment and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Victorian Government has developed a strengthened Victorian Aboriginal Affairs Framework 2013 - 2018 (VAAF) to bring together Government and Aboriginal community commitments and efforts and create a better future for Victoria's Aboriginal population. The VAAF was released on 22 November 2012. Significantly the VAAF recognises and values Aboriginal culture, integrates Government effort, and identifies the accountabilities of Government departments, agencies and funded service providers. This will enable more effective monitoring and evaluation of performance. The VAAF focuses effort and resources on six Strategic Action Areas that are central to closing the gap in Aboriginal disadvantage. Through the VAAF the Government is committing to 12 headline indicators with achievable targets. Key priorities are also identified for improved Government effort and reform in Aboriginal affairs: Building prosperity through economic participation; Protecting and supporting vulnerable children and families; and Ensuring access to services that meet the needs of Aboriginal people across the State. The VAAF recognises that by working together strategically and through sustained and long term collaboration, Government, Aboriginal people and organisations, service providers and the private sector, can deliver improved outcomes for Aboriginal people over the long term."--Website summary.

Book An Examination of the Implementation of the Victorian Indigenous Affairs Framework Strategy to Close the Achievement Gap Between Indigenous and Non Indigenous Students

Download or read book An Examination of the Implementation of the Victorian Indigenous Affairs Framework Strategy to Close the Achievement Gap Between Indigenous and Non Indigenous Students written by Kathleen Fultz and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 45 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Indigenous population of Australia has long suffered from a disadvantaged position in the country's education system. Poor academic outcomes among Indigenous students prompted the Australian government in 2010 to initiate the Victorian Indigenous Affairs Framework (VIAF). A central goal of the VIAF was to close the achievement gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous students. My project evaluates the overall effectiveness of the VIAF, focusing specifically on its ability to narrow the achievement gap for literacy and numeracy between the Indigenous and non-Indigenous students in the state of Victoria. Data was collected through a series of interviews with people who have worked closely with VIAF. Results indicate that culture is a significant causal variable that policymakers failed to consider in both the design and implementation of the VIAF educational programs. The alienation of Indigenous culture helps explain repeated policy failures and the need for a more inclusive educational framework."--Abstract

Book Indigenous Rights and Water Resource Management

Download or read book Indigenous Rights and Water Resource Management written by Katie O'Bryan and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-10-26 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In an era of climate change, the need to manage our water resources effectively for future generations has become an increasingly significant challenge. Indigenous management practices have been successfully used to manage inland water systems around the world for thousands of years, and Indigenous people have been calling for a greater role in the management of water resources. As First Peoples and as holders of important knowledge of sustainable water management practices, they regard themselves as custodians and rights holders, deserving of a meaningful role in decision-making. This book argues that a key (albeit not the only) means of ensuring appropriate participation in decision-making about water management is for such participation to be legislatively mandated. To this end, the book draws on case studies in Australia and New Zealand in order to elaborate the legislative tools necessary to ensure Indigenous participation, consultation and representation in the water management landscape.

Book Leaving Care and the Transition to Adulthood

Download or read book Leaving Care and the Transition to Adulthood written by Varda R. Mann-Feder and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2019-02-25 with total page 393 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The transition to adulthood is a longer and more complex process than it was just a few decades ago, and a growing number of youth and young adults experience significant challenges in the establishment of an autonomous and independent lifestyle when compared to previous generations. Successful high school graduation followed by employment is no longer the inevitable trajectory for young people, especially in the current socio-economic context where jobs are less accessible and more demanding in terms of specialized skills and higher academic qualifications. Unable to rely on family for emotional and financial support, vulnerable youth, who grow up in substitute care, are especially effected by the lengthening of this transition to adulthood. The dismal outcomes for youth growing up in care are by now well-documented, and more recently, a range of models have been proposed to help advance our understanding of these outcomes and how to forestall them. However, the literature on leaving care has long suffered from the absence of theory that could guide meaningful intervention. In response to this gap, Leaving Care and the Transition to Adulthood offers a comprehensive overview of the newest contributions to this area in relation to theory, in addition to the Theory of Emerging Adulthood, while also featuring cutting-edge research and best practices that support adjustment across a range of domains for this population. International in scope, this book focuses on bringing together major advances that span the literature on transitioning to adulthood within the care system, offering a unique and important contribution to the field.

Book Evaluating Transition to School Programs

Download or read book Evaluating Transition to School Programs written by Sue Dockett and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-10-21 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transition to school represents a time of great change for all involved. Many transition to school programs have been developed to support positive transitions to school. While these programs have involved complex planning and implementation, often they have not been evaluated in rigorous or systematic ways. This book brings together Australian and international perspectives on research and practice to explore approaches to evaluating transition to school programs. For children, school is quite different from anything else they have experienced. For families and educators, there are considerable changes as they interact with new people and take on new roles. Developing effective transition to school programs is a key policy initiative around the world, based on recognition of the importance of a positive start to school and the impact of this for future school engagement and outcomes. Throughout the chapters of this book, authors from Australia, Germany, Sweden, Ireland and Jamaica share examples of evaluation practice, with the aim of encouraging educators to reflect on their own contexts and adopt evaluation practices that are relevant and appropriate for them. The book brings together the fields of evaluation research and transition to school. A wide range of examples and figures is used to relate research and practice and to illustrate possible applications of evaluation strategies. Evaluating Transition to School Programs highlights the importance of multiple perspectives of the transition to school and offers suggestions about how the perspectives of children, families, educators and community members might be included and analysed in evaluation strategies. Other themes throughout the book include the importance of collaboration, respectful and trusting relationships, practitioner-driven inquiry, strengths-based approaches and developing programs that are responsive to context. This book is written for educators and leaders in early years and primary school settings, and will also be of interest to researchers, students and policy makers in the field.
