Book The Ring and the Crown Extended Edition

Download or read book The Ring and the Crown Extended Edition written by Melissa de la Cruz and published by Disney Electronic Content. This book was released on 2017-02-07 with total page 391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Crown" meets "Game of Thrones" in this dazzling tale of glamour, enchantment, and betrayal, written by #1 New York Times bestselling author, Melissa de la Cruz. Once, they were inseparable, just two little girls playing games in a formidable castle. Now Princess Marie-Victoria, heir to the mightiest empire in the world, and Aelwyn Myrddyn, a bastard mage, face vastly different futures. As the annual London season begins—a whirlwind of wealth and magic marked by lavish parties and gorgeous girls vying for the attention of young royals—the talk of the town is Ronan Astor, a social-climbing American with only her beauty to recommend her. After falling for a handsome rogue on the voyage over, she must balance her desire for love with her duty to save her family's position. Meanwhile, Isabelle of Orleans finds herself cast aside by Leopold, heir to the Prussian crown, in favor of a political marriage to Marie-Victoria. Isabelle is bent on reclaiming what is hers, but Marie doesn't even want Leopold—she lost her heart long ago to a boy she will never be able to have. Desperate to escape a life without love, Marie turns to Aelwyn, and the girls form a perilous plan that endangers the fate of the monarchy. "Preening royalty, a touch of magic, and dramatic betrayal. What's not to love?" — Teen Vogue "This character-driven novel has fabulous balls, glitzy gowns, and plenty of drama and plot twists, making it hard to put down." — School Library Journal

Book Victoria Ocampo

Download or read book Victoria Ocampo written by Doris Meyer and published by University of Texas Press. This book was released on 2013-09-24 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The "first lady of Argentine letters," Victoria Ocampo is best known as the architect of cultural bridges between the American and European continents and as the founder and director of Sur, an influential South American literary review and publishing house. In this first biographical study in English of "la superbe Argentine," originally published in 1979, Doris Meyer considers Victoria Ocampo's role in introducing European and North American writers and artists to the South American public—through the pages of her review, through translations of their work, and through lecture tours and recitations. She examines Ocampo's personal relationships with some of the most illustrious writers and thinkers of this century—including José Ortega y Gasset, Rabindranath Tagore, Count Hermann Keyserling, Virginia Woolf, Adrienne Monnier, Vita Sackville-West, Gabriela Mistral, and many others. And she portrays an extraordinary woman who rebelled against the strictures of family and social class to become a leading personality in the fight for women's rights in Argentina and, later, a steadfast opponent of the Perón regime, for which she was sent to jail in 1953. Fifteen of Victoria Ocampo's essays, selected from her more than ten volumes of prose and translated by Doris Meyer, complement the biographical study.

Book Studies in the Music of Tom Luis de Victoria

Download or read book Studies in the Music of Tom Luis de Victoria written by EugeneCasjen Cramer and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-05 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Representing nearly thirty years of research by one of the leading scholars in the field, this series of in-depth studies examines selected aspects of the music of the great Spanish composer in the late Renaissance, Tom?Luis de Victoria. Presenting new insights into both the musical style and language and the compositional procedure of this contemporary of Palestrina, Lasso and Byrd, Eugene Cramer illuminates the extent to which Victoria's compositions are musically related. The book reveals that the falsobordone or fabord?layed a much larger role in Victoria's music than has previously been thought. Cramer also demonstrates that Victoria's parody or imitation technique, especially in respect to his Masses of 1592, extended the parameters that are generally thought to be characteristic of works of this type. Of special interest is the discussion of thirty-eight works, including thirty-four psalm settings that are attributed to Victoria in extant manuscript sources. Extensively illustrated with over 130 musical examples, these studies will not only interest the serious student of sacred music, but also the performer, both the singer and the conductor alike.

Book A New Companion to Hispanic Mysticism

Download or read book A New Companion to Hispanic Mysticism written by Hilaire Kallendorf and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2010 with total page 540 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The canon of Hispanic mysticism is expanding. No longer is our picture of this special brand of early modern devotional practice limited to a handful of venerable saints. Instead, we recognize a wide range of marginal figures as practitioners of mysticism, broadly defined. Neither do we limit the study of mysticism necessarily to the Christian religion, nor even to the realm of literature. Representations of mysticism are also found in the visual, plastic and musical arts. The terminology and theoretical framework of mysticism permeate early modern Hispanic cultures. Paradoxically, by taking a more inclusive approach to studying mysticism in its marginal manifestations, we draw mysticism---in all its complex iterations---back toward its rightful place at the center of early modern spiritual experience.
