Book Vibration of Mechanical Systems

Download or read book Vibration of Mechanical Systems written by Alok Sinha and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-10-18 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a textbook for a first course in mechanical vibrations. There are many books in this area that try to include everything, thus they have become exhaustive compendiums, overwhelming for the undergraduate. In this book, all the basic concepts in mechanical vibrations are clearly identified and presented in a concise and simple manner with illustrative and practical examples. Vibration concepts include a review of selected topics in mechanics; a description of single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) systems in terms of equivalent mass, equivalent stiffness, and equivalent damping; a unified treatment of various forced response problems (base excitation and rotating balance); an introduction to systems thinking, highlighting the fact that SDOF analysis is a building block for multi-degree-of-freedom (MDOF) and continuous system analyses via modal analysis; and a simple introduction to finite element analysis to connect continuous system and MDOF analyses. There are more than sixty exercise problems, and a complete solutions manual. The use of MATLAB® software is emphasized.

Book excerpt: Whole Body Vibrations: Physical and Biological Effects on the Human Body allows an understanding about the qualities and disadvantages of vibration exposure on the human body with a biomechanical and medical perspective. It offers a comprehensive range of principles, methods, techniques and tools to provide the reader with a clear knowledge of the impact of vibration on human tissues and physiological processes. The text considers physical, mechanical and biomechanical aspects and it is illustrated by key application domains such as sports and medicine. Consisting of 11 chapters in total, the first three chapters provide useful tools for measuring, generating, simulating and processing vibration signals. The following seven chapters are applications in different fields of expertise, from performance to health, with localized or global effects. Since unfortunately there are undesirable effects from the exposure to mechanical vibrations, a final chapter is dedicated to this issue. Engineers, researchers and students from biomedical engineering and health sciences, as well as industrial professionals can profit from this compendium of knowledge about mechanical vibration applied to the human body. Provides biomechanical and medical perspectives to understanding the qualities and disadvantages of vibration exposure on the human body Offers a range of principles, methods, techniques, and tools to evaluate the impact of vibration on human tissues and physiological processes Explores mechanical vibration techniques used to improve human performance Discusses the strong association between health and human well-being Explores physical, mechanical, and biomechanical aspects of vibration exposure in domains such as sports and medicine

Book Vibrations in Mechanical Systems

Download or read book Vibrations in Mechanical Systems written by Maurice Roseau and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 530 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The familiar concept described by the word "vibrations" suggests the rapid alternating motion of a system about and in the neighbourhood of its equilibrium position, under the action of random or deliberate disturbing forces. It falls within the province of mechanics, the science which deals with the laws of equilibrium, and of motion, and their applications to the theory of machines, to calculate these vibrations and predict their effects. While it is certainly true that the physical systems which can be the seat of vibrations are many and varied, it appears that they can be studied by methods which are largely indifferent to the nature of the underlying phenomena. It is to the development of such methods that we devote this book which deals with free or induced vibrations in discrete or continuous mechanical structures. The mathematical analysis of ordinary or partial differential equations describing the way in which the values of mechanical variables change over the course of time allows us to develop various theories, linearised or non-linearised, and very often of an asymptotic nature, which take account of conditions governing the stability of the motion, the effects of resonance, and the mechanism of wave interactions or vibratory modes in non-linear systems.

Download or read book The Physics of Vibration written by A. B. Pippard and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2007-02-01 with total page 656 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of vibration in physical systems is central to almost all fields in physics and engineering. This work, originally published in two volumes, examines the classical aspects in Part I and the quantum oscillator in Part II. The classical linear vibrator is treated first and the underlying unity of all linear oscillations in electrical, mechanical and acoustic systems is emphasized. The treatment of nonlinear vibrations, a field with which engineers and physicists are generally less familiar, is then examined. Part II then concentrates on quantum systems, looking at the vibrations in atoms and molecules and their interaction with electromagnetic radiation. The similarities of classical and quantum methods are stressed and the limits of the classical treatment are examined. Throughout the book, each phenomenon discussed is well illustrated with many examples; and theory and experiment are compared. This is a useful introduction to the more advanced mathematical treatment of vibrations as it bridges the gap between the basic principles and more specialized concepts.

Book Applied Structural and Mechanical Vibrations

Download or read book Applied Structural and Mechanical Vibrations written by Paolo L. Gatti and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2014-02-24 with total page 670 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second edition of Applied Structural and Mechanical Vibrations: Theory and Methods continues the first edition’s dual focus on the mathematical theory and the practical aspects of engineering vibrations measurement and analysis. This book emphasises the physical concepts, brings together theory and practice, and includes a number of worked-out examples of varying difficulty and an extensive list of references. What’s New in the Second Edition: Adds new material on response spectra Includes revised chapters on modal analysis and on probability and statistics Introduces new material on stochastic processes and random vibrations The book explores the theory and methods of engineering vibrations. By also addressing the measurement and analysis of vibrations in real-world applications, it provides and explains the fundamental concepts that form the common background of disciplines such as structural dynamics, mechanical, aerospace, automotive, earthquake, and civil engineering. Applied Structural and Mechanical Vibrations: Theory and Methods presents the material in order of increasing complexity. It introduces the simplest physical systems capable of vibratory motion in the fundamental chapters, and then moves on to a detailed study of the free and forced vibration response of more complex systems. It also explains some of the most important approximate methods and experimental techniques used to model and analyze these systems. With respect to the first edition, all the material has been revised and updated, making it a superb reference for advanced students and professionals working in the field.
