Book Veterans Resource and Transition Guide

Download or read book Veterans Resource and Transition Guide written by John Heintzelman and published by . This book was released on 2021-03-26 with total page 441 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr. John Heintzelman served in the military from 1992 till 2015. He served as an Airborne Infantry Senior NCO for over 22 years with numerous awards and decorations to include the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. After over 22 years he decided to pursue his doctorate in Psychology with an emphasis on PTSD and TBI. During this journey he discovered through his own experiences, injuries, studies, research, and helping other people that there were so many other factors, challenges and obstacles that affect veterans and their reintegration back to civilian life. Although each of these factors, challenges, and obstacles are usually individualistic based on the veteran's experiences and abilities to adjust to their completely new lifestyle, there still are common trends that show issues that need to be addressed both individually and socially in the veteran reintegration process and/or systems. John wants to give back to his fellow veterans and educate the public on the challenges that veterans face daily as they transition back in their new civilian lives. His intention for this guide is to provide a ONE STOP or QUICK REFERENCE source of Research, Knowledge, and Resources for veterans to easily reference in the effort to help educate veterans on the issues, challenges, and process of transitioning out of the military, what to do once they get out, develop a plan, and provide resources to help make life a little easier during and after that experience. Additional information has been added for survivors benefits to help surviving widows and a military 101 class to help educate the civilian workforce on military culture and lifestyle. Additional intent of this guide is to make it a living document by taking input from readers and providers on information and resources, providing annual updates to veterans on the ever-changing and developing process of transitioning and resources. Book Mission Transition

Download or read book Mission Transition written by Matthew J. Louis and published by HarperChristian + ORM. This book was released on 2019-09-24 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mission Transition is an essential career-change guide for any transitioning veteran that wants to avoid false starts and make optimal career choices following active duty. Every year, about a quarter of a million veterans leave the military - most of whom are unprepared for the transition. These service members have developed incredible leadership, problem-solving, and practical skills that are underutilized once they reach the civilian world, a detriment to both themselves and society. Well-intentioned Transition Assistance Programs and other support structures within the armed forces often leave veterans fending for themselves. The mission-first culture of the military results in service members focusing on their active duty roles in the year leading up to their separation, leaving them little time to adequately prepare to join the civilian world. President of Purepost, a next-generation staffing solution and public benefits corporation, and author Matthew J. Louis guides military personnel through the entire process of making a successful move into civilian professional life. In Mission Transition, this book will: Guide you through the process of discovering what path you want to take going forward Teach you the strategies that will make your résumé stand out Provide suggestions to help you prepare for and ace the interview Discuss ways to acclimate to your new organization’s culture and pay it forward to other veterans Each chapter includes advice from other veterans, illustrations of key concepts, summaries, and suggested resources. Let this well-written and easy to follow guidebook help you transition out from the military and commit to being successful in the next chapter of your life.

Book A Veteran s Guide to Transition

Download or read book A Veteran s Guide to Transition written by Thomas Braden and published by . This book was released on 2021-03-16 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is written by a veteran for other veterans, to assist in the transition from Active Duty. It specifically addresses the timeline, requirements and challenges one must overcome in order to gain a position in the federal civil service, or "GS" Government Service. This book will help you to establish your own timeline and drumbeat for navigating the process. This timeline should begin prior to your separation and continue throughout your 180 day active duty waiting period (for positions within DoD) until you're hired and on-boarded. This book is dedicated to walking you through this process, step-by-step and chapter-by-chapter.Along the way, this book provides insights and information which will allow veterans to maximize their potential opportunities for employment. It tells you exactly how and when to request additional benefits (such as leave and pay) that may be available, (some only available for veterans). Upon joining the GS ranks (federal civil service), you will want to set yourself to maximize your returns under the new benefit plans which apply to the civil service; specifically, the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) and the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP). This book will insure that you have the right information when on-boarding so that you make informed decisions and (hopefully) establish your initial payroll deductions to maximize the 5% TSP matching available to you - something not previously available to you while on active duty!Throughout this book, the reader is provided with links to source documents and current information from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), USAJobs.com, the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) or other bodies; giving necessary information should current policy/procedures change, especially during COVID. Finally, this book provides an Action Checklist for the reader to follow and not miss a critical step, or inadvertently leave anything on the table. If you're even thinking of applying for jobs in the federal civil service - this book is a must-read!!

Book Veterans Benefits a Complete Guide to Your Entitlements

Download or read book Veterans Benefits a Complete Guide to Your Entitlements written by Veterans Veterans and published by . This book was released on 2018-07-18 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Welcome to Book #1 in this series. We call this book the "doing your homework" book, and we wrote it to give you a blueprint to help you with the military to civilian transition process. There are a lot of moving parts during this timeframe- typically, we think of this time window from about one year prior to transition, whether for retirement or end of your service obligation, until three months prior to your actual transition date. In this window, you will have to complete a service-specific transition assistance program, service-specific medical screening, and complete Veteran's Administration (VA) disability medical screening as appropriate. Now let's look at how this book will help you do all that. In Section 1 of this book we provide you with a proven timeline blueprint to help you organize your required transition events, which include: requesting medical records, Transition Assistance initiation, and continuing your medical documentation. We walk you through a step-by-step construction of your timeline, which is based upon your transition date. Once your timeline is constructed using the interactive model, you will know which critical tasks need to be accomplished, and when. The workbook section at the end of this book offers you an easy take-away for your use. In Section 2 we discuss how to properly document your ailments, disabilities and diseases in your medical records. We show you examples of ailment organization methods used by Veterans Service Officers, which will help you paint your medical issues picture. The interactive models will help you organize and maximize your VA medical claim! In Section 3 we discuss the differences between your service physicals and your VA disability physical, which is part of your VA claim, and give you tips to ensure you're maximizing both. They are both critical, and we explain why. In Section 4 we provide you a comprehensive list of all VA-recognized ailments, disabilities and diseases for you to conduct your own health assessment of potential VA claims. Section 4 also provides ratings for all ailments, and since the VA applies the same disabilities and ratings standards to each branch of service, the information herein applies whether you are a Soldier, Sailor, Marine, Airman or Coast Guardsman. This information is derived from the VA's CFR-38. Once you have completed your review of this book, to include the interactive exercises, you will be well-organized to transition and complete your VA disability claim. In Book #2, you will be walked through the claim process, from getting together with a veterans' service officer (VSO) or VA representative, to receiving your claim results from the VA. To get there, however, you must do your homework in this book!Like we say in the book, if we can help you increase your VA rating by 10%, this book will pay for itself several times over, every month, for the rest of your life!!! Order Book #1 now and let's get organized and set you up for a lifetime of success!

How do I get through all this paperwork? Where can I get legal assistance? What can I do for employment? How do I get back into everyday life? How can I return to active duty? How do I deal with insurance? What benefits are available to me, and how do I claim them? What about my family? How can they help me?
