Book excerpt: Almost daily playing with, and reading to small children, then listening to their insights, the author has realized how anachronistic her childhood became in the digital, cyberspatial age, and she decided to base the stories about Verunka on own recollections, meshing facts and fiction. For children from five to a hundred and five. In 29 chapters of various lengths, illustrated by mostly medieval woodcuts with celestial motifs. The author, born and raised in Praga Magica, studied languages and arts, performed professionally in Europe and the USA. Writing letters was her initial and intimate mode of expression and connection. As she made the United States her home, English became her second language. Zuzannah Lark has recently published two volumes of short stories, Fetching Stranded Soul Pieces and Bohemian Anthem. One cannot step into the same river twice for its interval has changed. Cheek also provides practical notes about Janácek's style, both in general terms and specific issues relating to this opera along with a plot summary with translations and vocal ranges of characters and the pronunciation of their names. This entire volume is organized in a clear, readable format, resulting in a book that will help to make productions of The Cunning Little Vixen in the original Czech much easier a task than ever before.

Book Academic Duets

Download or read book Academic Duets written by Marta Vohlídalová and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The publication offers portraits of 15 couples where both partners work in science, research or teach at a university. Interviews focused on issues related to dual career partnerships in science, the process of combining two highly demanding professional careers in science, the distribution of roles between the partners and the combination of work and family lives. The portraits capture academics in various life phases—from young people and doctoral candidates at the beginning of their careers to well-established scientists at the peak of their creative powers, to people who are gradually winding their research careers down. The theoretical introduction to the publication analyzes some of these issues: problems related to geographical mobility, the bad design of Czech family policy which does not correspond well to the needs of parents working in demanding scientific professions, or problems with stereotypes that people have about dual career partnerships in science. The interviews were conducted with both partners together, which makes them very dynamic, engaging and interesting. The partners confront their opinions, experiences, attitudes and worldviews. The interviews are also open and often touch upon the most intimate and private aspects of life. Because the study brings stories of people from various generations in various life stages and working in different disciplines, we can also see how various generations have managed to combine two demanding careers, and how the lives of scientists have changed over time. Last but not least, the interviews also contain invaluable observations and reflections related to contemporary science and scientific work and the issue of combining work and parenthood.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is natural painless childbirth a myth or reality? The intent of the book is neither to give universal guidelines nor to compete with the work and methods of Midwives, doulas or other related professions. You won't even find recommendations concerning diet or physical exercise here. Those are pieces of information that you can read in books written by many outstanding authors. The purpose of the book is to pass on personal experience, to show a slightly different point of view and to introduce pregnancy and birth as the woman's work on her own personal development. We are all holding the birth pain as well as the whole experience of birth in our own hands. Based on personal experience and story. "The book should be welcomed as a golden opportunity to reinforce the power modern physiology has to challenge thousands of years of cultural conditioning. It can help us to be aware of a sudden paradigm shift regarding our understanding of the birth process and particularly our interpretation of labour pain." From the foreword by Michel Odent, M.D. (author of 13 books including Birth Reborn, Chidbirth and the Future of Homo Sapiens)

Book Not From Above

    Book Details:
  • Author : Alexander Mayor
  • Publisher : Unbound Publishing
  • Release : 2019-04-25
  • ISBN : 1789650321
  • Pages : 111 pages

Download or read book Not From Above written by Alexander Mayor and published by Unbound Publishing. This book was released on 2019-04-25 with total page 111 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Not From Above! is the debut collection of stories from musician Alexander Mayor (who releases music under the name Alexander’s Festival Hall). It’s a series of what-ifs, how-abouts and darkly comic thought experiments, populated by central Asian dictators with overreaching literary ambitions, anxious young spies pursued on canals, passive aggressive board games, and starship captains who really need to learn to prioritise. These are tales of decisive moments for indecisive people. Dating becomes rather more dangerous and ‘promenade theatre’ a little too immersive. Adventures are undertaken largely by mistake, in stories that catalogue the increasingly esoteric ways Londoners try to keep themselves amused. And of course, there’s that moment when a breakdown on a country road might just be the start of something promising... * Not From Above! is also an album of twelve upbeat, lush and romantic pop songs from Alexander’s Festival Hall – see inside the book for download details. www.alexandersfestivalhall.org
