Book Verification of a Monte Carlo Code System for Analysis of Ionization Chamber Responses

Download or read book Verification of a Monte Carlo Code System for Analysis of Ionization Chamber Responses written by and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this work was the development and testing of a Monte Carlo code system for calculating an ionization chamber response to a mixed neutron and photon radiation environment. The resulting code system entitled MICAP - a Monte Carlo Ionization Chamber Analysis Package - determines the neutron, photon, and total response of the Ionization chamber to the mixed field radiation environment. To demonstrate the ability of MICAP, comparisons were made with existing code systems and experimental results. Comparisons with existing code systems verified the accuracy of the neutron, photon, and charged particle transport processes and the nuclear models used to describe the individual neutron reactions. Comparisons with monoenergetic photon calibration experiments and mixed neutron and photon radiation experiments verified the applicability of MICAP for analysis of ionization chamber responses to mixed field radiation environments. The major conclusion of the study is that MICAP represents a unique capability in the area of ionization chamber response analysis and is expected to be useful for many applications in the field of radiation dosimetry. 11 refs., 4 figs., 2 tabs.

Book Development and Evaluation of a Monte Carlo Code System for Analysis of Ionization Chamber Responses

Download or read book Development and Evaluation of a Monte Carlo Code System for Analysis of Ionization Chamber Responses written by Jeffrey Oscar Johnson and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this work is the development and testing of a Monte Carlo code system for calculating the response of an ionization chamber to a mixed neutron and photon radiation environment. The resulting code system entitled MICAP - a Monte Carlo Ionization Chamber Analysis Package - determines the neutron, photon, and total responses of the ionization chamber to the mixed field radiation environment. The Monte Carlo method performs accurate simulations of the physical processes involved in detecting radiation using ionization chambers, and eliminates limitations inherent in approximate methods. To evaluate MICAP, comparisons were made with results obtained using other code systems and with experimental results. Separate comparisons with other code systems verified the validity of the neutron, photon, and charged particle transport processes and the nuclear models used to describe the individual neutron reactions, respectively. Comparisons with mono-energetic photon calibration experiments and with mixed neutron and photon radiation experiments verified the applicability of MICAP for analyzing the response of ionization chambers to mixed field radiation environments.

Book Development and Testing of a Monte Carlo Code System for Analysis of Ionization Chamber Responses

Download or read book Development and Testing of a Monte Carlo Code System for Analysis of Ionization Chamber Responses written by and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To predict the perturbation of interactions between radiation and material by the presence of a detector, a differential Monte Carlo computer code system entitled MICAP was developed and tested. This code system determines the neutron, photon, and total response of an ionization chamber to mixed field radiation environments. To demonstrate the ability of MICAP in calculating an ionization chamber response function, a comparison was made to 05S, an established Monte Carlo code extensively used to accurately calibrate liquid organic scintillators. Both code systems modeled an organic scintillator with a parallel beam of monoenergetic neutrons incident on the scintillator. (LEW).

Book Monte Carlo Study of Ion Chamber Response in Low Energy Photon Beams

Download or read book Monte Carlo Study of Ion Chamber Response in Low Energy Photon Beams written by Fadi Hobeila and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "192Ir is one of the most popular radiation sources used for brachytherapy treatments. However, 192Ir emits a wide photon spectrum (10 keV to 900 keV) which impedes the creation of an 192Ir primary standard. The 192Ir air kerma calibration factor is derived by interpolating between 60Co, 137Cs and hard orthovoltage air kerma calibration factors obtained from a standards laboratory. The EGSnrc Monte Carlo package was used to calculate the response in low energy photon beams of a commercial parallel-plate chamber to assess useability as a 192Ir and kilovoltage photon beam calibration tool. XCOM photoeffect cross-sections were implemented in EGSnrc to improve kerma calculation agreement at low energies. The response calculations were compared to experimental data from PTB (Germany). Overall, agreement between calculations and measurement is good and represents an improvement to results from the literature. However, discrepancies exist at the lowest energies which may be caused by differences in the measurement and calculation geometries." --

Book Translational Research in Cancer

Download or read book Translational Research in Cancer written by Sivapatham Sundaresan and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2021-02-03 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Translational research in oncology benefits from an abundance of knowledge resulting from genome-scale studies concerning the molecular pathways involved in tumorigenesis. Translational oncology represents a bridge between basic research and clinical practice in cancer medicine. The vast majority of cancer cases are due to environmental risk factors. Many of these environmental factors are controllable lifestyle choices. Experimental cancer treatments are studied in clinical trials to compare the proposed treatment to the best existing treatment through translational research. The key features of the book include: 1) New screening for the development of radioprotectors: radioprotection and anti-cancer effect of β-Glucan (Enterococcus faecalis) 2) Translational perspective on hepatocellular carcinoma 3) Brachytherapy for endometrial cancer 4) Discovery of small molecule inhibitors for histone methyltransferases in cancer

Book Frontiers in Radiation Oncology

Download or read book Frontiers in Radiation Oncology written by Tejinder Kataria and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2013-07-03 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mode of action by radiation is postulated to be the production of double strand breaks of DNA. The repair of double strand breaks occurs through non homologous end joining through acetylation of histone proteins by histone acetyltransferases (HATs). The fixation of double strand breaks through HAT inhibitors is a promising application for radiation sensitization in the clinic. P53 is a tumour suppressor gene and its mutation has been implicated in 60% of human cancers. As one of the pivotal anticancer genes, P53 controls the transcription and translation of a series of genes. The kinetics of DNA double strand break generation and their co relation to P53 status, ATM and ARF activation are computed and modelled for understanding the potential of such research.
