Book Blount County Alabama Cemeteries Volume 1

Download or read book Blount County Alabama Cemeteries Volume 1 written by Robin Sterling and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2013 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Blount County was carved out of the territory ceded to the State by the Creek Indians following their defeat at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend. The earliest settlers began streaming into the former wilderness as early as 1817. Blount was originally a large county, but over the decades pieces were taken to make up other adjoining counties such as Jefferson, Marshall, Etowah, and Cullman. Every cemetery within the contemporary boundaries of Blount was visited by the author and each readable tombstone was copied to develop the contents of this three volume series. Most of the cemeteries were read in 2002. Volume 1 covers alphabetically A through H, beginning with the Alldredge Family Cemetery and concluding with the High Rock Methodist Church Cemetery. This book is vital to any serious student of Blount County genealogy and history.

Book Finding Joy in Adversity

Download or read book Finding Joy in Adversity written by Carl Bock and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2005-12-20 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This narrative is given with the intention of sharing experiences of fear, anxiety, distress inspiration, intuition and spiritual awareness that was to bring joy out of adversity. Carl Bock, a retired Navy Seabee Masterchief Construction man, tells of meeting the challenges of Alzheimers after his wife Helen was diagnosed with the disease. Carl speaks of how his search for understanding opened doors to new thoughts about the importance of the virtues of peace and joy when facing the trials of adversity. The initial, almost overwhelming, experience of negativity, fear and bewilderment was countered with a determined search for ways to transform the negativity into a positive joyful happening. This determined search uncovered a new and stronger spiritual awareness; an awareness that brought new moving experiences through dreams and intuition. When the application of the lessons derived from these experiences was put into practice a new era of peace, love and joy was to become a lasting part of the total experience of adversity. The thoughts narrated here are not put together as a How To book or a Book of Instruction. They are a compilation of the many lesser positive and negative experiences encountered through the many years of at-home care giving; bringing about what Carl describes as, the most rewarding experience I have ever had the occasion to experience.

Book excerpt: Political and Military Statements in Support of the Thousands of Merchant Mariners Including Those We Honor in This Book Braving the Wartime Seas "The Academy serves the Merchant Marine as West Point serves the Army and Annapolis serves the Navy . . ." (September 30, 1943, dedication of USMMA campus) President Franklin D. Roosevelt "The only thing that ever really frightened me during the war was the U-boat peril." Prime Minister Winston S. Churchill "This is a hundredth gone. Too damned many of these fine lads gone. Wish there was more we could do to minimize losses." Captain Richard R. McNulty, June 16, 1943 Note on report of death of a Cadet-Midshipman "They have brought us our lifeblood and they had paid for it with some of their own . . . they have delivered their cargoes to us who needed them so badly. In war it is performance that counts." Quotes from Douglas MacArthur, General of the U.S. Army "Yours was the first front on every ocean, and without you, no Army and Navy can survive . . . one of the vital teams participating will be recognized as the merchant seamen in dungarees . . . we of the Navy will salute you with a final 'Well done'." Admiral Harold R. Stark, Commander of U.S. Naval Forces in Europe "Our operations would not have been possible without the strong support of our Merchant Marine. These gallant officers and men maintained a bridge of ships across the Pacific, and bore their share of the Japanese attacks while unloading on distant islands where the struggle was still intense and the issue not yet decided." Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, U.S. Navy, Chief of Naval Operations Braving the Wartime Seas is the final book of the American Maritime History Project, a private nonprofit foundation. Book excerpt: Research at the molecular and the cellular level has greatly enhanced our understanding of the pathogenesis and management of heart disease. Valuable contributions, towards this end, have been made by scientists from different dis ciplines including biochemistry, physiology, pathology, molecular biology and biophysics. We felt that it would be of interest and value to bring together ex perts from diverse specialities to present their work and to discuss the common problems encountered in their endeavours. In accordance, a symposium was organised in February 1988 at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh. It was held during the annual meeting of the Indian section of the International Society for Heart Research. This book is a compila tion of some of the papers presented at the symposium. The symposium was sponsored by the Council on Cardiac Metabolism of the International Society and Federation of Cardiology. A number of Indian or ganisations gave generous financial help. These included the National Academy of Medical Sciences, Indian Council of Medical Research, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research and Department of Science and Technology. Desktop publishing was used to prepare this volume. In doing so we came to appreciate the remarkable qualities, skills and help rendered by Professor Dharam Vir. For typing the manuscripts and for other secretarial assistance we gratefully acknowledge the help of Ravinder and Sawtantar. Their captors will perform cruel experiments that will challenge the Specimens’ grasp of their humanity and their physical endurance. In this new world, the humans cannot refuse or consent to anything, and there is no such thing as human rights. While attempting to cope with previously unimaginable pain, the Specimens must individually determine if and how they desire to continue to live. Which of their human trials will they be able to survive, and which will they succumb to? We follow along the experiences of Ian - an actor in his past life - what skills could he have to help him survive? Elizabeth, a diplomat in her former life; Gaia the midwife, and Kate whose will to survive must not be tied to the children she is forced to carry and then give up. Once the identity of a person is shattered, what is left?
