Smith, author of New Orleans Ghosts, Voodoo, and Vampires). With its world-famous casinos and extravagant floor shows, Las Vegas is known as one of America’s liveliest cities. And true to its reputation, even the dead are especially active here. In Haunting Las Vegas, Janice Oberling offers a rare look beyond the neon glitz and into reports of ghostly sightings and lurid histories of The City that Never Sleeps. Spirits of all kinds haunt the halls and corridors of the Las Vegas Strip, including apparitions of its most famous residents. There are many tales of Elvis idling backstage at the Hilton and Liberace appearing at his favorite restaurant, Carluccio’s. The legendary mobster Bugsy Segal is known to make spectral appearances, as is Shoney, the Luxor Hotel’s once-celebrated show elephant.

Book excerpt: What happens in Vegas doesn't necessarily stay in Vegas and the proof is in this lively and entertaining compilation of stories chronicling decades of decadence, celebrity shenanigans, and political corruption, as well as the glitz and glamour of the casinos that pass for everyday life in Las Vegas. Underneath the city's present success lies many infamous tales of excess and debauchery. Using new information from recently released FBI documents, Jeff Burbank brings to life the Vegas mob in its heyday, recounting never-before-heard tales of the mobsters who made Vegas what it is today. But mobsters aren't the only ones with skeletons in Las Vegas' closet. Over the years, Hollywood stars have had their share of the limelight. Burbank has uncovered the many fateful, and often amusing, incidents that have befallen the glamorous and here he recalls the details of the darkest moments in the lives of the famous and foolish: Marilyn Monroe's quickie divorce; boxer Sonny Liston's secret heroin deal just before his death; The Doors singer Jim Morrison's arrest for fighting on the Strip; and the hookers who trick-rolled comedian Tommy Smothers in his hotel room. With fast-paced and entertaining prose, Burbank captures the true stories from Las Vegas' seedy underbelly that have led to America's 100-year fascination with the aptly named Sin City.

But is there more to Vera than meets the eye? Should her calling card really read LAPDANCER or just LAPD? Shadowed by the ‘Troubles’ of Northern Ireland, this ‘nightmare cabaret opera’ extends the author’s Six Honest Serving Men and implies a way, through conscience and ‘something like a confession’, to a point where things might begin to become more clear."

Book excerpt: Torianey Heckstall's personal philosophy says it all. "Feeling in the dark" is a metaphor for how she feels when she makes the most of the decisions in her life. Life is a random cascade of experiences and opportunities-or so she thought. On a whim, she decides to upgrade a flight she's taking to first class, never daring to imagine that this one seemingly random decision would change her life in ways she could only once dream of. Sitting next to her is the man who will change her life. Que`Shaune Guadau II is the owner of a billion-dollar oil corporation founded by his father. But even he knows that money can't buy him everything he craves-and he's too distracted to realize that the beautiful stranger next to him in first class could change his life too. Shaune and Tory made a deal with each other that will change both their lives forever. Tory was never a woman to go back on her own rules; even so, Shaune's relentlessness would soon make her question her unshakeable moral core. And he will do whatever it takes to convince her that he is the man for her. Neither is able to abandon the sexy, flirty, cat-and-mouse games, and this creates a problem for Shaune's best friend, Marcus Swain. Jealous and vindictive, Marcus controls a game of his own, in which the two become unwitting players. Soon, he engineers a tumultuous rift between them. Now it's a race to see which game is the more powerful-seduction or sabotage.

Book excerpt: For more years than he can remember, astronomer Ernie Cowarth has been sworn to secrecy on behalf of the United States government regarding an incomprehensible lunar event—later known as the "moonflaw"—that occurred in late October 1953. Due to negligent actions of the Apollo 15 crew, who succumbed to their deeper curiosities during what was designed to be a restricted investigation some eighteen years later, cosmic radiation from the event was inadvertently conveyed back to Earth, where it eventually brings about a strange phenomenon: a series of disorienting and disturbing dreams that link together the minds of perfect strangers. Bizarre events ultimately coalesce in the city of Hartford, Connecticut, where a demonic entity has seized opportunity from the fallout, escalating the emissions into a dual threat. From reanimated beings known as Deceivers, who furtively project into the living realm, to a subterranean lair that snakes below the city like a flooded catacomb, unholy horrors await a cast of dream-plagued, fate-bound individuals who must face unfathomable darkness in order to restore humanity as it once was before the Moonflaw.

Book The Dunes Hotel and Casino The Mob the connections the stories

Download or read book The Dunes Hotel and Casino The Mob the connections the stories written by Geno Munari and published by TrineDay. This book was released on 2022-04-07 with total page 605 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The intent behind this book is to record classic Las Vegas history that would be lost forever if not memorialized." The Dunes operation was a spectrum of information that is intricate and mysterious at times, protected by a shroud of secrecy and intrigue that is virtually impossible to decipher. It featured different operators and Mob characters who, at various times in the history of the hotel, were involved in various ventures, including gambling, bookmaking, real estate investment, and many other business arrangements. There are more than 390 footnotes and an index. I have been working on this book for almost four years, which included many hours of research and the development of a timeline. My research helped bring forth answers to questions regarding notable gambling operators, Mafia chiefs, U.S. Senators, Governors, and memorable events. One such event solves a mystery of a bomb assassination plot and a shooting; politicians were compromised, Hoffa pulled strings, and there are heretofore undisclosed facts that involve President Kennedy's assassination. I never dreamed these details would ever be uncovered.
