Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hitchhikers Guide to Electronics in the '90s covers the advances in electronics in a historical context, the microchip technology, which is at the heart of all technological advances, and the major industrial electronics power houses. The book tackles what's most interesting about electronics, such as the democratizing effects of technology, profits in electronics, and the importance of electronics, and then defines terminologies related to the componentry of the electronics industry. The text discusses the beneficiaries of electronics and the sectors of the electronics industry (i.e. computers, consumers, telecommunications, industrial, transportation, and military). The issues in chip technology including the importance of chips; vast cost of chip research and development and production; effect of erratic chip supplies on equipment companies; East/West imbalance in chip production; and the American and Japanese approaches to chip-making are also considered. The book concludes by describing the trends in electronics for the '90s, including the innovation, development, and rock-bottom cost of the technology. Students of electronics engineering and practicing electronics engineers will find this book useful.

Book The Evolution of Travel Time Information Systems

Download or read book The Evolution of Travel Time Information Systems written by Margarita Martínez-Díaz and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-01-21 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the estimation of travel time in a very comprehensive and exhaustive way. Travel time information is and will continue to be one key indicator of the quality of service of a road network and a highly valued knowledge for drivers. Moreover, travel times are key inputs for comprehensive traffic management systems. All the above-mentioned aspects are covered in this book. The first chapters expound on the different types of travel time information that traffic management centers work with, their estimation, their utility and their dissemination. They also remark those aspects in which this information should be improved, especially considering future cooperative driving environments.Next, the book introduces and validates two new methodologies designed to improve current travel time information systems, which additionally have a high degree of applicability: since they use data from widely disseminated sources, they could be immediately implemented by many administrations without the need for large investments. Finally, travel times are addressed in the context of dynamic traffic management systems. The evolution of these systems in parallel with technological and communication advancements is thoroughly discussed. Special attention is paid to data analytics and models, including data-driven approaches, aimed at understanding and predicting travel patterns in urban scenarios. Additionally, the role of dynamic origin-to-destination matrices in these schemes is analyzed in detail.

Book Road Charging in the 90s

Download or read book Road Charging in the 90s written by Beryl Blair and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 1994 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The increase in traffic congestion in the last 40 years -- in the UK and overseas -- has been phenomenal. Faced with this problem, governments need to find a way to restrict road use to essential traffic and to raise money to finance new road building. One option adopted by many countries, with varying degrees of success, is the use of toll roads or more complex methods of road charging. This book provides an overview of charging policies and legislation, looking at all the options available and assessing the likely effects on both domestic and commercial traffic. Following an overview of the subject, this guide is divided into two sections: * the legislation and policy behind road charging -- with chapters focusing on the UK and Europe, and on London as a special case, and * recent practice -- with chapters on road charging models and technologies, and on case studies from the UK, Europe, Australia, the Far East, US, and Canada. Each chapter provides both a brief review of the subject and a list of key references for further reading. The guide also contains detailed indexes.
