Book Vegetative Propagation of Subtropical Fruit Trees

Download or read book Vegetative Propagation of Subtropical Fruit Trees written by Ageus Van der Meulen and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vegetative propagation of plants is in general an asexual process in which plants are multiplied not from vegetative parts. This process, which is quite commom in nature, must inevitabley be used in horticulture in the multiplication of plants which produce only seedless fruits as e.g. the banana. This method of propagations has many advatages and a few disadvantages. Seeding fruit trees do not normally reproduce the distinctive favoured characteristics of their mother tree and vegetative propagation is the only method of retaining these characteristics in the progeny.

Download or read book Propagation of Tropical Fruit Trees and Other Plants Vol 1 Classic Reprint written by George W. Oliver and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-17 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Propagation of Tropical Fruit Trees and Other Plants, Vol. 1 The purpose of this bulletin is'to furnish short notes dealing with the most feasible methods of propagating such tropical and subtropical fruit trees and other economic plants as have thus far received little or no attention in the United States and its near-by tropical possessions. Considerable progress has already been made in introducing new and improved varieties of the fruits mentioned here, and experiments are being carried on with a view to simplifying the old methods of increasing the supply of these plants. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plant breeding has undergone a period of very rapid and significant development in recent years and the area of fruit breeding is no exception. This book provides a balanced, up-to-date and comprehensive account of the developments in the field of breeding tropical and subtropical fruits. It offers not only the theoretical and applied aspects of breedings fruits but also provides an authoritative manual of the conventional and new techniques used for increasing efficiency of crop improvement programmes. In specific chapters the book deals with crop taxonomy, genetic resources, floral biology, breeding objectives, inheritance patterns and information on new improved cultivars/hybrids.

Book Plant Growth Regulators in Tropical and Sub tropical Fruit Crops

Download or read book Plant Growth Regulators in Tropical and Sub tropical Fruit Crops written by S.N. Ghosh and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-06-01 with total page 673 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plant growth regulators or plant bio-regulators have emerged as a powerful tool for improving the performance of horticultural crops in general and fruit crops in particular. This book provided recent information on role of plant hormones, how their concentrations are regulated, and how they modulate the various plant processes. ‘Plant Growth Regulators in Tropical, Sub-tropical Fruit Crops’ is a comprehensive book covering function of plant growth regulators in propagation including micro-propagation, growth, flowering and fruiting behaviour, yield, quality, shelf life and stress management etc. This book has 26 chapters covering most of the tropical and sub-tropical fruit crops like aonla, avocado, banana, ber, citrus, custard apple, date palm, fig, grape, guava, jamun, kokam, litchi, mango, mulberry, papaya, passion fruit, sapota, phalsa, pomegranate and strawberry. Note: T&F does not sell or distribute the Hardback in India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

Book Innovation in Propagation of Fruit Vegetable and Ornamental Plants

Download or read book Innovation in Propagation of Fruit Vegetable and Ornamental Plants written by Sergio Ruffo Roberto and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2020-11-04 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In horticulture, plant propagation plays an important role, as the number of plants can be rapidly multiplied, retaining the desirable characteristics of the mother plants, and shortening the bearing age of plants. There are two primary forms of plant propagation: sexual and asexual. In nature, the propagation of plants most often involves sexual reproduction, and this form is still used in several species. Over the years, horticulturists have developed asexual propagation methods that use vegetative plant parts. Innovation in plant propagation has supported breeding programs and allowed the production of high quality nursery plants with the same genetic characteristics of the mother plant, free of diseases or pests.

Book Protocols for Micropropagation of Woody Trees and Fruits

Download or read book Protocols for Micropropagation of Woody Trees and Fruits written by S.Mohan Jain and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-09-18 with total page 548 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Micropropagation has become a reliable and routine approach for large-scale rapid plant multiplication, which is based on plant cell, tissue and organ culture on well defined tissue culture media under aseptic conditions. A lot of research efforts are being made to develop and refine micropropagation methods and culture media for large-scale plant multiplication of several number of plant species. However, many forest and fruit tree species still remain recalcitrant to in vitro culture and require highly specific culture conditions for plant growth and development. The recent challenges on plant cell cycle regulation and the presented potential molecular mechanisms of recalcitrance are providing excellent background for understanding on totipotency and what is more development of micropropagation protocols. For large-scale in vitro plant production the important attributes are the quality, cost effectiveness, maintenance of genetic fidelity, and long-term storage. The need for appropriate in vitro plant regeneration methods for woody plants, including both forest and fruit trees, is still overwhelming in order to overcome problems facing micropropagation such as somaclonal variation, recalcitrant rooting, hyperhydricity, polyphenols, loss of material during hardening and quality of plant material. Moreover, micropropagation may be utilized, in basic research, in production of virus-free planting material, cryopreservation of endangered and elite woody species, applications in tree breeding and reforestation.
