Each sutra briefly encapsulates a rule of mental working, a principle or guiding maxim. Through simple practice of these methods all may become adept and efficient at mathematics. Book I of the series is intended for primary schools in which many of the fundamental concepts of mathematics are introduced. It has been written from the classroom experience of teaching Vedic mathematics to eight and nine years-old. At this age a few of the Vedic methods are used, the rest being introduced at a later stage.

Book Vedic Maths for 8th Class Second Edition

Download or read book Vedic Maths for 8th Class Second Edition written by Gaurish Borkar and published by P & J Publications. This book was released on 2017-10-13 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mathematics is a tricky subject. Those who love, enjoy it much and those who don’t, feel it’s boring. I lost interest in mathematics while in 7th class. Based on whatever I remember, it was mainly due to a lack of understanding of negative numbers. By nature, I am a kinaesthetic person and therefore I refuse to accept anything unless understood thoroughly. Generally, just memorization doesn’t work for me and the same thing happened about the multiplication of negative numbers. Our teacher presented them as rules and I refused to accept them at face value. One year later my cousin's grandfather started living with us and he had a great interest in teaching. Moreover, his concepts in mathematics were extremely clear and he could answer all my crazy questions. This retriggered my interest in mathematics. The whole journey was so joyful that I wish everyone get a grandfather like him who is at home to help with fundamental questions in studies. When I started thinking about developing books as per the curriculum, the next question was which board to follow. After a bit of research, I got to know that CBSE is a most popular board in India and therefore I decided to develop Vedic Math books for the CBSE curriculum. Finally, I had a choice of developing books from class I and I decided to develop the first book for class VIII. Class VIII is the foundation for board exams and therefore I felt this is the right time to start strengthening our knowledge, skills, and abilities. The book is designed in such a way that all required methods from Vedic math are covered here and the student need not refer to any other book to learn the basics. Secondly, numbers (data) are represented in pictorial format or charts wherever appropriate. This certainly simplifies the learning. I have explained principles wherever relevant. This shall help the pupil to understand them further and apply them confidently.

Book Vedic Mathematics in the Adult Basic Education Fundamental Math Classroom

Download or read book Vedic Mathematics in the Adult Basic Education Fundamental Math Classroom written by Barbara Durban-Wilson and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "For adult students, succeeding at fundamental math is a cornerstone to expanding their educational and occupational options. The rates at which students are able to progress through fundamental math vary, and for some achieving a basic understanding of math is challenging. Students who exhibit persistent difficulties with understanding the first level of fundamental math (CNC Math 015) skills were the focus of this project. Vedic math was chosen as the instructional method for a ten week project with students who are enrolled in fundamental Math 015. It was hypothesized that a different approach to teaching and learning math may result in an improvement in student success and in students' perceptions about learning math. After the ten week period, 40% of the Vedic math class completed Math 015 compared to approximately 8% for all Math 015 completions for the years 2007-2011. Chi-squared analysis indicated this result was statistically significant. I was also interested in the student's and instructor's experiences with learning and teaching math in a very different way. Students reported their learning experiences to be very favourable and the instructor reported the teaching experience to be very worthwhile. Students experienced more academic success and increased confidence and enjoyment while learning math skills. Overall, results suggest Vedic math is an approach worthy of further exploration."--P. ii.

Vedic Mathematics can aspire young minds to be creative and improve lateral thinking. In ancient India, Mathematics was known by the general name Ganitha, which includes arithmetic, geometry, algebra, astronomy and astrology. In the field of Mathematics, ancient Indians made three distinct contributions – the notation system, the decimal system and the use of zero. The system discovered by Swami Bharathi Krishna Tirthaji is based on sixteen formulae (or sutras) and thirteen sub-formulae (upa-sutras). These sutras can be related to natural and mental functions such as completing a whole, noticing analogies, generalisation and so on. It provides one line, mental and super-fast methods along with quick cross-checking systems. It offers concepts, methods, tricks and shortcuts to workout complex mathematical problems fast, literally in few seconds without using calculators and computers. SALIENT FEATURES OF VEDIC MATHEMATICS: ü Removes fear of Mathematics ü Enables strong Logical thinking & Problem-Solving skills ü Enables Faster Calculations ü Improves Concentration ü Encourages Mental Calculations ü Encourages Multidimensional Thinking ü Develops Creativity

Book excerpt: Vedic Mathematics is a system of mathematics that allows problems to be solved quickly and efficiently. It is based on the work of Sri Bharathi Krishna Thirthaji Maharaja (1884 – 1964), who devised the system from a close study of the Vedas. It is based on 16 sutras (aphorisms) that provide a principle or a rule of working to solve a problem. This series of books is an attempt to present the material in a modular fashion. Each book focuses on one arithmetic operation - addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. These books can be read in any order, but it is recommended that addition and subtraction be read before multiplication and division. This particular book is related to addition only, and subsequent books will cover the other arithmetic operations. The book features screencasts that explain each technique, visuals and interactive exercises.
