Book Abhidharmakosa Bhasya of Vasubandhu

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vasubandhu's Abhidharmakosa-Bhasya (ca. 380-390), besides its culminating achievement in streamlining the overall structure of the exposition of the preceding Abhidharma manuals, is unmatched by any of the preceding manuals in respect of its comprehensiveness-incorporating all important Vaibhasika doctrines since the time of the Abhidharma-mahavibhasa-of its excellent skill in definition and elucidation, and of its ability to clarify the difficult point involved in doctrinal disputations. Added to these qualities is its great value as a brilliant critique and insightful revaluation of all the fundamental Sar-vastivada doctrines developed up to its time. Since its appearance, it has been used as a standard textbook for the understanding of not only the Abhidharma doctrines but all the fundamental Buddhist doctrines in general. Translated into Chinese by Paramartha in 563 A.D. and by Hsuan-tsang in 651-654 A.D., Hsuan-tsang's disciple P'u-kuang tells us that in India the Abhidharmakosa-Bhasya was hailed as the 'Book of Intelligence'. In China, Japan and the Far-east, too, the Kosa has generally been highly treasured as a textbook of fundamental importance for Buddhist studies. Vasubandhu's brilliant critique of the doctrines of the Vaibhasika was answered by the equally brilliant Samghabhadra - a contemporary staunch defender and expounder of the doctrines of the Vaibhasikas - in his masterwork, the Abhidharmanyayanusara, now extant only in Hsuan-tsang's translation (653-654 A.D.). The Sanskrit text, considered for a long time to be irremediably lost, was discovered by Rahula Samkrtyayana in 1935 in the Tibetan monastery of Ngor and was published by P. Pradhan in 1967 (1st edition).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The single greatest Tibetan commentary—never previously translated—on one of the most well-known and cited works of classical Indian Buddhism. This work by a scholar of the Kadam school is the most authoritative Tibetan commentary on Vasubandhu’s Treasury of Abhidharma (Abhidharmakosa). In terms of stature and authority, Vasubandhu’s Treasury rivals Buddhaghosa’s contemporaneous Path of Purification and deals with such central themes as the dynamics of emotions and karma, of mental and meditative states; it treats both the cosmos and the life within. Chim Jampalyang’s exposition of it is the greatest flowering of Abhidharma studies in Tibet. Usually referred to as the Chimzö, it is to this day a key textbook in the great monastic universities. A veritable encyclopedia, it spans all areas of classical Indian Buddhist knowledge and is an indispensable reference for scholars of Buddhism. The Library of Tibetan Classics is a special series being developed by the Institute of Tibetan Classics to make key classical Tibetan texts part of the global literary and intellectual heritage. Eventually comprising thirty-two large volumes, the collection will contain over two hundred distinct texts by more than a hundred of the best-known Tibetan authors. These texts have been selected in consultation with the preeminent lineage holders of all the schools and other senior Tibetan scholars to represent the Tibetan literary tradition as a whole.

Book The Universal Vehicle Discourse Literature Mah y nas tr la k ra

Download or read book The Universal Vehicle Discourse Literature Mah y nas tr la k ra written by Vasubandhu and published by American Institute of Buddhist Studies (AIBS). This book was released on 2014-09-29 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Universal Vehicle Discourse Literature (Mahāyānasūtrālaṃkāra) was transmitted from the bodhisattva Maitreyanātha to Āryā Āsaṅga, the fourth-century Indian Buddhist scholar-adept. The most foundational of the set of the famous Five Teachings of Maitreya, theDiscourse Literature is considered the wellspring of what the Tibetans call the “magnificent deeds trend of the path,” the compassion side, which balances the “profound view trend of the path,” the wisdom side. The Discourse Literature is also considered to be metaphysically aligned with and foundational for the Idealist (Vijñānavādin) school of Mahāyāna thought. Translated from Sanskrit, Tibetan, and Chinese by Lobsang Jamspal, Robert Thurman, and the AIBS team, the present work contains a fully annotated, critical English rendition of theDiscourse Literature along with its commentary (bhāṣya) by Āsaṅga’s brother, Vasubandhu. It also includes an introduction covering essential historical and philosophical topics, a bibliography, and a detailed index. This long-awaited work is the founding cornerstone of the AIBS Treasury of the Buddhist Sciences series.

Book Pradnya Evolves the Buddha s Way

Download or read book Pradnya Evolves the Buddha s Way written by K D Gaikwad and published by Educreation Publishing. This book was released on 2018-07-20 with total page 485 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Lord Buddha's world acclaimed, unassailable and ever- excelling prajna (pradnya) was haunting the author ever since. Pradnya has been ever escalated by an ordinary man to a Divine-Pitch never to be dislodged there from. This is not a myth; in fact it has been a vivid extraordinary human effort. Study of human evolution unfolds that we evolve, evolve and evolve over many centuries. It holds a challenge even today to modern organized scientific knowledge, how could life of such organized wisdom evolve in an early period of human evolution. The author has ventured to delve into a challenging subject. Does this mean that the Buddha could possibly stir and activate every possible brain neuron to design an impeccable human behavioral model ahead of many centuries which is not yet excelled? My book is innovative, inspiring, thought-provoking and confidence building, the only one first of its kind and attracts attention at once. Although, "The Kingdom of righteousness" was proclaimed by the Blessed One, some 500-600 years before Christian era, yet that remained obscured from the public glare for a long time. Until Sir Edvin Arnold released his poem "Light of Asia" in July 1879 in London, which flashed on a Master mind from Asia, second to none. "The Light of Asia" brought forth the reformer philosophy of a giant from Asia, which raised expectations of understanding of hope, belief of empire and gave a completely new impetus to the History of World thought. It revolutionized traditional thinking by shaking its very foundation.
