Download or read book Post Archean Granitic Rocks written by V. Janoušek and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2020-07-02 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Granites (sensu lato) represent the dominant rock-type forming the upper–middle continental crust but their origin remains a matter of long-standing controversy. The granites may result from fractionation of mantle-derived basaltic magmas, or partial melting of different crustal protoliths at contrasting P–T conditions, either water-fluxed or fluid-absent. Consequently, many different mechanisms have been proposed to explain the compositional variability of granites ranging from whole igneous suites down to mineral scale. This book presents an overview of the state of the art, and envisages future avenues towards a better understanding of granite petrogenesis. Particular emphasis of this Volume is on the following topics: Compositional variability of granitic rocks generated in contrasting geodynamic settings during Proterozoic to Phanerozoic Periods, Main permissible mechanisms producing subduction-related granites, Crustal anatexis of different protoliths, and the role of water in granite petrogenesis, New theoretical and analytical tools available for modelling whole-rock geochemistry, in order to decipher the sources and evolution of granitic suites.

Book Classification in Social Research

Download or read book Classification in Social Research written by Ramkrishna Mukherjee and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 1984-06-30 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This important work is addressed to all researchers concerned with classification. It shows the serious limits of the traditional form of analytical classification. The solution it proposes, the inductive population approach, considers all possible cross-classifications in regard to attributes of the phenomena. This approach is theoretically grounded, avoids the tendency to generate excessively abstract constructs, and provides a clear way of linking empirical data with theoretically meaningful attributes of social systems. The last section of the book applies the method to kinship structures.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In many fields of science and practice large amounts of data and informationare collected for analyzing and visualizing latent structures as orderings or classifications for example. This volume presents refereed and revised versions of 52 papers selected from the contributions of the 16th AnnualConference of the "German Classification Society". The papers are organized in three major sections on Data Analysis and Classification (1), InformationRetrieval, Knowledge Processing and Software (2), Applications and Special Topics (3). Moreover, the papers were grouped and ordered within the major sections. So, in the first section we find papers on Classification Methods, Fuzzy Classification, Multidimensional Scaling, Discriminant Analysis and Conceptual Analysis. The second section contains papers on Neural Networks and Computational Linguisticsin addition to the mentioned fields. An essential part of the third section attends to Sequence Data and Tree Reconstruction as well as Data Analysis and Informatics in Medicine. As special topics the volume presents applications in Thesauri, Archaeology, Musical Science and Psychometrics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Folk Classification of Ceramics: A Study of Cognitive Prototypes provides a general understanding of folk classification that compares cognitive structures across cultures through anthropological field studies. The topic of this book, the structure and use of folk categories, is relevant to all cognitive sciences and is distinctly anthropological in examining variation among subcultural groups and change through time. The study of variation and change illuminates aspects of category structure that would not be envisioned from experiment or introspection. This text concentrates on the study of folk classification of artifacts on ceramic vessels, focusing on gross social groupings such as “potters or “traditional villages . Some topics discussed include the exploring interview techniques; structure of vessel categories; subcultural variation; and semantic change. This publication is a good reference to students studying folk classification and other disciplines such as cognitive psychology, linguistic semantics, and artificial intelligence.
