Book Symmetry and Separation of Variables

Download or read book Symmetry and Separation of Variables written by Willard Miller and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2012-03-29 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1977, this volume is concerned with the relationship between symmetries of a linear second-order partial differential equation of mathematical physics, the coordinate systems in which the equation admits solutions via separation of variables, and the properties of the special functions that arise in this manner. Some group-theoretic twists in the ancient method of separation of variables that can be used to provide a foundation for much of special function theory are shown. In particular, it is shown explicitly that all special functions that arise via separation of variables in the equations of mathematical physics can be studied using group theory.

Book Methods of the Theory of Functions of Many Complex Variables

Download or read book Methods of the Theory of Functions of Many Complex Variables written by Vasiliy Sergeyevich Vladimirov and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2007-01-01 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This systematic exposition outlines the fundamentals of the theory of single sheeted domains of holomorphy. It further illustrates applications to quantum field theory, the theory of functions, and differential equations with constant coefficients. Students of quantum field theory will find this text of particular value. The text begins with an introduction that defines the basic concepts and elementary propositions, along with the more salient facts from the theory of functions of real variables and the theory of generalized functions. Subsequent chapters address the theory of plurisubharmonic functions and pseudoconvex domains, along with characteristics of domains of holomorphy. These explorations are further examined in terms of four types of domains: multiple-circular, tubular, semitubular, and Hartogs' domains. Surveys of integral representations focus on the Martinelli-Bochner, Bergman-Weil, and Bochner representations. The final chapter is devoted to applications, particularly those involved in field theory. It employs the theory of generalized functions, along with the theory of functions of several complex variables.

Book Several Complex Variables with Connections to Algebraic Geometry and Lie Groups

Download or read book Several Complex Variables with Connections to Algebraic Geometry and Lie Groups written by Joseph L. Taylor and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2002 with total page 530 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text presents an integrated development of core material from several complex variables and complex algebraic geometry, leading to proofs of Serre's celebrated GAGA theorems relating the two subjects, and including applications to the representation theory of complex semisimple Lie groups. It includes a thorough treatment of the local theory using the tools of commutative algebra, an extensive development of sheaf theory and the theory of coherent analytic and algebraicsheaves, proofs of the main vanishing theorems for these categories of sheaves, and a complete proof of the finite dimensionality of the cohomology of coherent sheaves on compact varieties. The vanishing theorems have a wide variety of applications and these are covered in detail. Of particular interest arethe last three chapters, which are devoted to applications of the preceding material to the study of the structure theory and representation theory of complex semisimple Lie groups. Included are introductions to harmonic analysis, the Peter-Weyl theorem, Lie theory and the structure of Lie algebras, semisimple Lie algebras and their representations, algebraic groups and the structure of complex semisimple Lie groups. All of this culminates in Milicic's proof of the Borel-Weil-Bott theorem, which makes extensive use of the material developed earlier in the text. There are numerous examples and exercises in each chapter. This modern treatment of a classic point of view would be an excellent text for a graduate course on several complex variables, as well as a useful reference for theexpert.

Book Complex Variables and Their Applications

Download or read book Complex Variables and Their Applications written by Anthony D. Osborne and published by Addison Wesley. This book was released on 1999 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An understanding of functions of a complex variable, together with the importance of their applications, form an essential part of the study of mathematics. Complex Variables and their Applications assumes as little background knowledge of the reader as is practically possible, a sound knowledge of calculus and basic real analysis being the only essential pre-requisites. With an emphasis on clear and careful explanation, the book covers all the essential topics covered in a first course on Complex Variables, such as differentiation, integration and applications, Laurent series, residue theory and applications, and elementary conformal mappings. The reader is also introduced to the Schwarz-Christoffel transformation, Dirchlet problems, harmonic functions, analytic continuation, infinite products, asymptotic series and elliptic functions. Applications of complex variable theory to linear ordinary differential equations and integral transforms are also included. Complex Variables and their Applications is an ideal textbook and resource for second and final year students of mathematics, engineering and physics.

Book SPECIAL FUNCTIONS AND COMPLEX VARIABLES ENGINEERING MATHEMATICS III

Download or read book SPECIAL FUNCTIONS AND COMPLEX VARIABLES ENGINEERING MATHEMATICS III written by Shahnaz Bathul and published by PHI Learning Pvt. Ltd.. This book was released on 2017-07-07 with total page 586 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thoroughly revised book, now in its third edition, continues to discuss two important topics—special functions and complex variables. Chapters have been rearranged keeping in view the current syllabi of the universities. The book analyzes special functions, Legendre’s equation and function, and Bessel’s function. It explains how to solve Cauchy equations, differential equation with variable coefficients and Frobenius of solving differential equation at a regular singular point. Besides, the text also explains the notions of limit, continuity and differentiability by giving a thorough grounding on analytic functions and their relations with harmonic functions. In addition, the book introduces the exponential function of a complex variable, and with the help of this function, defines trigonometric and hyperbolic functions and explains their properties. While discussing different mathematical concepts, the book discusses a number of theorems such as Cauchy’s integral theorem for the integration of a complex variable, Taylor’s theorem for the analysis of complex power series, the residue theorem for evaluation of residues, the argument principle and Rouche’s theorem for the determination of the number of zeroes of complex polynomials. Finally, the book gives a thorough exposition of conformal mappings and develops the theory of bilinear transformation.

Download or read book Complex Variables written by Steven G. Krantz and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-04-16 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea of complex numbers dates back at least 300 years—to Gauss and Euler, among others. Today complex analysis is a central part of modern analytical thinking. It is used in engineering, physics, mathematics, astrophysics, and many other fields. It provides powerful tools for doing mathematical analysis, and often yields pleasing and unanticipated answers. This book makes the subject of complex analysis accessible to a broad audience. The complex numbers are a somewhat mysterious number system that seems to come out of the blue. It is important for students to see that this is really a very concrete set of objects that has very concrete and meaningful applications. Features: This new edition is a substantial rewrite, focusing on the accessibility, applied, and visual aspect of complex analysis This book has an exceptionally large number of examples and a large number of figures. The topic is presented as a natural outgrowth of the calculus. It is not a new language, or a new way of thinking. Incisive applications appear throughout the book. Partial differential equations are used as a unifying theme.
