Book Vapor liquid Equilibria for Complex Mixtures with Special Emphasis on the Critical Region

Download or read book Vapor liquid Equilibria for Complex Mixtures with Special Emphasis on the Critical Region written by G. F. Chou and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work consists of three parts. The first part presents a thermodynamic framework for performing adiabatic flash calculations using continuous thermodynamics and an equation of state. The equation of state parameters and ideal gas heat capacities are correlated to molucular weight for five hydrocarbon homologous series. Illustrative examples are given for both single-stage and multistage calculations. The second part reports new measurements of high-pressure vapor-liquid equilibria for binary and ternary systems containing CO2, decane and tetralin at 71 and 104 degrees C. The third section presents a phenomenological correction to a classical equation of state to improve representation in the vapor-liquid critical region. The correction uses volume translation to locate the critical point and a nonclassical residual Helmholtz energy to account for density fluctuations near the critical point. Calculated phase equilibria and coexistent densities for pure components and binary mixtures are compared with experimental results.

Book Vapor Liquid Equilibrium of Binary Mixtures in the Extended Critical Region Vol 1

Download or read book Vapor Liquid Equilibrium of Binary Mixtures in the Extended Critical Region Vol 1 written by James C. Rainwater and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-27 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Vapor-Liquid Equilibrium of Binary Mixtures in the Extended Critical Region, Vol. 1: Thermodynamic Model There is, therefore, a need for a current and detailed explanation of the theory and techniques, which this report is intended to satisfy. The mostly self - contained exposition should be useful for a novice as well as for an individual, of either scientific or engineering background, experienced in phase equilibrium calculations. Although this first report of a series of two contains many new results and insights not published previously, the primary justification for the work is its wide - ranging success in correlating vle data as described in Part II of this series. Furthermore, the Leung - Griffiths formalism is in part rigorous thermodynamics and in part approximation and assumption. Some of our newly introduced parameters can be given heuristic justification, whereas others are purely empirical. The exposition is organized to make clear the logical structure of the method, to identify what is exact and what is approximate, and to present arguments justifying the approximations. In Sec. 2 we define the transformed variables of the Leung - Griffiths model and translate the fundamental laws of thermodynamics into relationships among these variables. The description to this point is general and devoid of assumptions and approximations. With the proper motivation, in Sec. 3 the equation specifying the independent variable (thermodynamic potential), as a function of the dependent variables, is constructed. This step corresponds in the conventional approach to the specification of an equation of state. Specific emphasis is placed on the conformity with simple scaling - law behavior and the thermodynamic consistency of the model. In Secs. 4 and 5, certain heretofore unspecified functions of the independent variables are defined explicitly. The representation of the critical locus in Sec. 6 completes the description of the model. New results and features are summarized in Sec. 7. Book Working Guide to Vapor Liquid Phase Equilibria Calculations

Download or read book Working Guide to Vapor Liquid Phase Equilibria Calculations written by Tarek Ahmed and published by Gulf Professional Publishing. This book was released on 2009-08-27 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Working Guide to Vapor-Liquid Phase Equilibria Calculations offers a practical guide for calculations of vapor-phase equilibria. The book begins by introducing basic concepts such as vapor pressure, vapor pressure charts, equilibrium ratios, and flash calculations. It then presents methods for predicting the equilibrium ratios of hydrocarbon mixtures: Wilson's correlation, Standing's correlation, convergence pressure method, and Whitson and Torp correlation. The book describes techniques to determine equilibrium ratios of the plus fraction, including Campbell's method, Winn's method, and Katz's method. The remaining chapters cover the solution of phase equilibrium problems in reservoir and process engineering; developments in the field of empirical cubic equations of state (EOS) and their applications in petroleum engineering; and the splitting of the plus fraction for EOS calculations. Includes explanations of formulas Step by step calculations Provides examples and solutions

Book High Pressure Fluid Phase Equilibria

Download or read book High Pressure Fluid Phase Equilibria written by Ulrich K Deiters and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-04-26 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book begins with an overview of the phase diagrams of fluid mixtures (fluid = liquid, gas, or supercritical state), which can show an astonishing variety when elevated pressures are taken into account; phenomena like retrograde condensation (single and double) and azeotropy (normal and double) are discussed. It then gives an introduction into the relevant thermodynamic equations for fluid mixtures, including some that are rarely found in modern textbooks, and shows how they can they be used to compute phase diagrams and related properties. This chapter gives a consistent and axiomatic approach to fluid thermodynamics; it avoids using activity coefficients. Further chapters are dedicated to solid-fluid phase equilibria and global phase diagrams (systematic search for phase diagram classes). The appendix contains numerical algorithms needed for the computations. The book thus enables the reader to create or improve computer programs for the calculation of fluid phase diagrams. introduces phase diagram classes, how to recognize them and identify their characteristic features presents rational nomenclature of binary fluid phase diagrams includes problems and solutions for self-testing, exercises or seminars

Book Phase Equilibrium Engineering

Download or read book Phase Equilibrium Engineering written by Esteban Brignole and published by Elsevier Inc. Chapters. This book was released on 2013-04-02 with total page 43 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Phase equilibrium knowledge is required for the design of all sorts of chemical processes that may involve separations, reactions, fluids flow, particle micronization, etc. Indeed, different phase behavior scenarios are required for a rational conceptual process design. The aim of this chapter is to present the possible fluid mixture phase behavior that can be found in binary, ternary, and multicomponent systems. Moreover, representation of phase behavior in terms of phase diagrams is discussed. Dealing with phase diagrams of complex mixtures is not an easy task for beginners; however, very simple concepts are behind the rules for their construction. Phase diagrams are essential tools for phase equilibrium engineering as they provide valuable hints to understand the process and to assess the feasible and optimum operating regions. In this chapter, the “phenomenological” meaning of each phase behavior and its relation with molecular properties is discussed. A special attention is given to binary system phase behavior. Even though, in practice we rarely found such simple mixtures, they furnish a great deal of information for the understanding of multicomponent systems.
