Book excerpt: Excerpt from Vapor Pressure of Ammonia The accuracy of any vapor-pressure measurements is determined, in general, by four factors; namely, (a) purity of the material, (6) certainty, pf feqmlibrium; conditions, (c) precision of the pressure-measuring instrument, and temperature measurement and control. This book was released on 2018-01-10 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Properties of Saturated and Superheated Ammonia Vapor The first attempt to establish the fundamental equations for the vapor (ff ammonia and to compute tables of its properties was made by Ledoux.6 These equations and resulting tables, resting as they do upon unsound hypotheses and meager experimental data, are, in the light of later investigations, quite inaccurate. The next theoretical investigation of the subject was undertaken by Zeuner,7 who computed new constants for ammonia, in the equation of state of the form already applied by him to steam, and used by Ledoux for ammonia. He also constructed empirical formulas for the inner and outer latent heat, and the specific heat'of the liquid, and by use of these formulas computed tables which. Appeared in the earlier editions of his thermodynamics.8 In the later editions9 the values thus calculated have still been used for temperatures below 32 F., but results of later experimental deter minations have been used above that temperature. These tables for ammonia vapor are given in both English and French units. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Latent Heat of Vaporization of Ammonia Classic Reprint

Download or read book Latent Heat of Vaporization of Ammonia Classic Reprint written by Nathan S. Osborne and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-24 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Latent Heat of Vaporization of Ammonia The equation as developed above expresses the heat, Qabc, added when the entire amount, am, is evaporated at a constant temperature He and removed at the constant pressure are and con stant temperature 09. In the actual experiments, however, the temperatures of evaporation and superheat do vary somewhat during the process of evaporation and removal. It is therefore n Acessary to generalize equation (1 3) so as to take account of these variations. Obviously, only the terms which depend upon Ge and 08 need be considered with respect to the change which is required in the equation. Book Specific Heat of Liquid Ammonia Classic Reprint

Download or read book Specific Heat of Liquid Ammonia Classic Reprint written by Nathan S. Osborne and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-18 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Specific Heat of Liquid Ammonia The previous determinations of specific heat of liquid ammonia are represented graphically in Fig. 1, together with the results of the present measurements. None of the previous measurements extend to temperatures below 0° C. Von Strombeck 1 (1890) used the method of mixtures. About 128 g of ammonia contained in a steel bomb were used in a calori meter having a water equivalent of about 1 kg. The heat capacity from 30° to 60° was observed. Eight experiments were made. Book Computation of Equilibrium Partial Vapor Pressures of Aqueous Ammonia Solutions

Download or read book Computation of Equilibrium Partial Vapor Pressures of Aqueous Ammonia Solutions written by Paul E. Field and published by . This book was released on 2000-06-01 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report evaluates all available vapor-liquid equilibria (VLE) data from low-to-moderate pressures over the normal liquid water temperature range for the highly non-ideal aqueous ammonia solutions spanning nearly a century. The evaluation relies on all complete VLE data comprised of pressure- temperature-liquid and vapor compositions published over the last century to develop a temperature dependent model for the coefficients of the Wilson equation. The computations derived from the temperature dependent model are described by means of the program flowcharts and listings. Graphs of computed minima of the "best" Wilson coefficient pairs illustrate the statistical analysis of the experimental data. Tables of calculated deviations for three sets of Wilson coefficients corresponding to the individual and combined data sets demonstrate the utility of the model equations. Excellent agreement between the experimental and calculated liquid and vapor compositions is found for all but two data sets over the region of rapidly changing vapor composition up to 90 mole % of ammonia. This temperature dependent Wilson model offers a succinct representation of 100 years of what appear to be disparate pressure- temperature-composition VLE data.

Book A Study of the Vapor Pressures of Certain Hydrated Metallic Sulphates

This book was released on 2017-12-18 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Study of the Vapor Pressures of Certain Hydrated Metallic Sulphates: Dissertation, Submitted in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Philosophy in the Faculty of Pure Science, Columbia University Wilson4 has recently pointed out that the work on the vapor pressure of salt hydrates prior to 1875 had little scientific value owing chiefly to the hazy notions which prevailed as to the nature of the phenomenon. Although Gibbs5 formulated the phase rule in 1877, it was nearly fifteen years later before its merits were recognized. It seems, however, that dur ing this period several investigators of the vapor pressure of salt hydrates recognized the necessity of the presence of two solid phases in order to de fine the point of equilibrium, and as shown by the nature of their results, real progress may be said to date from this period. An understanding of the phenomenon resulted in the development of new methods for measuring the vapor pressure at the point of equilibrium.
