Book excerpt: Archeological investigations were undertaken by Greenwood and Associates for 12 archeologsites (CA-SBa-603, 625, 722, 962, 978, 1007, 1008, 1009, 1011, 1019, 1020, and 1111) of which four sites are located on South Vandenberg and the remaining eight are located in North Vandenberg. It is the focus of this study to determine if the Range improvement Project will have an adverse effect on cultural resources located within the project area. The investigations indicated that one site (CA-SBa-625) has been effectively destroyed by previous manmade construction activities and as such will not affect the proposed project. Seven sites appear to be eligible to the National Register (CA-SBa-603, 978, 1007, 1008, 1019, 1020, and 1111). Of these seven sites the proposed project will either not affect or have little significant affect on two sites (CA-SBa-603 and 1019). The remaining five sites have been determined to be potentially significant for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places and recommendations have been developed either to preserve the sites or to confine the impact so that there will be little or no adverse effect. The five additional sites (CA-SBa-625, 722, 962, 1009 and 1011) do not appear to be eligible to the National Register.
