Book Selective Oxidation by Heterogeneous Catalysis

Download or read book Selective Oxidation by Heterogeneous Catalysis written by Gabriele Centi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 519 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Selective Oxidation by Heterogeneous Catalysis covers one of the major areas of industrial petrochemical production, outlining open questions and new opportunities. It gives keys for the interpretation and analysis of data and design of new catalysts and reactions, and provides guidelines for future research. A distinctive feature of this book is the use of concept by example. Rather than reporting an overview of the literature results, the authors have selected some representative examples, the in-depth analysis of which makes it possible to clarify the fundamental, but new concepts necessary for a better understanding of the new opportunities in this field and the design of new catalysts or catalytic reactions. Attention is given not only to the catalyst itself, but also to the use of the catalyst inside the process, thus evidencing the relationship between catalyst design and engineering aspects of the process. This book provides suggestions for new innovative directions of research and indications on how to reconsider the field of selective oxidation from different perspectives, outlining that is not a mature field of research, but that new important breakthroughs can be derived from fundamental and applied research. Suggestions are offered on how to use less conventional approaches in terms of both catalyst design and analysis of the data.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vanadium is one of the more abundant elements in the Earth’s crust and exhibits a wide range of oxidation states in its compounds making it potentially a more sustainable and more economical choice as a catalyst than the noble metals. A wide variety of reactions have been found to be catalysed by homogeneous, supported and heterogeneous vanadium complexes and the number of applications is growing fast. Bringing together the research on the catalytic uses of this element into one essential resource, including theoretical perspectives on proposed mechanisms for vanadium catalysis and an overview of its relevance in biological processes, this book is a useful reference for industrial and academic chemists alike.

Download or read book Advanced Nanomaterials for Catalysis and Energy written by Vladislav A. Sadykov and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2018-08-27 with total page 590 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advanced Nanomaterials for Catalysis and Energy: Synthesis, Characterization and Applications outlines new approaches to the synthesis of nanomaterials (synthesis in flow conditions, laser electrodispersion of single metals or alloys on carbon or oxide supports, mechanochemistry, sol-gel routes, etc.) to provide systems with a narrow particle size distribution, controlled metal-support interaction and nanocomposites with uniform spatial distribution of domains of different phases, even in dense sintered materials. Methods for characterization of real structure and surface properties of nanomaterials are discussed, including synchrotron radiation diffraction and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy studies, neutronography, transmission/scanning electron microscopy with elemental analysis, and more. The book covers the effect of nanosystems' composition, bulk and surface properties, metal-support interaction, particle size and morphology, deposition density, etc. on their functional properties (transport features, catalytic activity and reaction mechanism). Finally, it includes examples of various developed nanostructured solid electrolytes and mixed ionic-electronic conductors as materials in solid oxide fuel cells and asymmetric supported membranes for oxygen and hydrogen separation. - Outlines synthetic and characterization methods for nanocatalysts - Relates nanocatalysts' properties to their specific applications - Proposes optimization methods aiming at specific applications

Book excerpt: The book is a multi-author survey (in 15 chapters) of the current state of knowledge and recent developments in our understanding of oxide surfaces. The author list includes most of the acknowledged world experts in this field. The material covered includes fundamental theory and experimental studies of the geometrical, vibrational and electronic structure of such surfaces, but with a special emphasis on the chemical properties and associated reactivity. The main focus is on metal oxides but coverage extends from 'simple' rocksalt materials such as MgO through to complex transition metal oxides with different valencies.

Book Selective Oxidation of Polynuclear Aromatic Hydrocarbons

Download or read book Selective Oxidation of Polynuclear Aromatic Hydrocarbons written by Ewa Nowicka and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis targets the selective oxidation of polynuclear aromatic compounds, which is considered as a preliminary step of upgrading of heavy oils, resids and bitumens to higher value materials in the liquid phase using different catalytic systems. Oxidation studies concentrated on simple model polyaromatic compounds and their alkylated derivatives. Ruthenium ion catalyzed oxidation chemistry has the potential to selectively oxidize PAHs and this system was studied in great detail with particular attention made to the reaction solvent system. Through careful studies it was found that the use of a monophasic solvent system led to the selective oxidative opening of an aromatic ring to produce the dialdehyde derivative. It was demonstrated that under standard conditions the rate of oxidation increased with the size of the fused ring system. 1H NMR methodology was developed to quantify the percentage of alkyl chain hydrogens preserved after reaction. It was found that the ruthenium based system demonstrated a high affinity for the oxidation of aromatic carbon with a low tendency to oxidise aliphatic carbon. These studies formed the basis of a detailed investigation into the mechanism of ruthenium ion catalyzed oxidation of PAHs. Investigation into another catalytic system which uses a homogeneous tungsten catalyst with hydrogen peroxide as the oxidant was also performed. Early studies showed that the H2WO4/H2O2 catalytic system exhibits high solvent dependant selectivity towards preferential oxidation of aromatic carbon. What is more, studies using alkylated aromatics with a alkyl chain greater than C8 showed that even in a non polar solvent the selectivity of oxidation is directed towards the aromatic carbon. A range of catalytic systems containing tungsten, ruthenium, heteropolyacids and their heterogenised equivalents were also applied to the oxidation of PAHs. Au-Pd supported catalysts in combination with molecular oxygen and H2WO4 were also used for the oxidation of PAHs and the results obtained opened a new path in the research of PAHs. Studies on the oxidative desulfurization, denitrogenation of heteroaromatics and the demetallation of nickel and vanadium porphyrines was also performed and are reported in this thesis.

Book In Situ Vibrational Spectroscopic Investigation of C4 Hydrocarbon Selective Oxidation Over Vanadium phosphorus oxide Catalysts

Download or read book In Situ Vibrational Spectroscopic Investigation of C4 Hydrocarbon Selective Oxidation Over Vanadium phosphorus oxide Catalysts written by Zhi-Yang Xue and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The open chain dicarbonyl species then experienced cycloaddition to form maleic anhydride. VPO catalyst phase transformations were investigated using in situ laser Raman spectroscopy. During reduction-oxidation step changes, (VO)2P20-- was readily converted to [Alpha subscript Pi]-, [Delta]-VOP04 and ultimately to [Beta]-VOP04 in O2/N2; these V5 phases were eliminated in n- butane/N2. A "wet" nitrogen feed (5-10% H20 in N2) transformed (VO)2P20-- and [Alpha subscript Iota]-, [Alpha subscript Pi]-, [Beta]-, [Delta]-, [Gamma]-VOP04 to V2O5 at temperatures above 400°C. The presence of water vapor facilitated the loss of oxygen atoms involved in V-O-P bonding; separated vanadium oxide and phosphorus oxide species were formed. The isolated vanadium oxides than transformed to V2O5, and phosphorus species likely diffused from the catalyst lattice in the form of acid phosphates.
