Mab wants to be all powerful and rule the world, but she has one weakness-- the sun. She knows she has to overcome this, but how? Mab asks the telling pool in the sorcerer's chamber how she can walk in the light once again. The pool replies, "That there are only few ways she can do this. One way is to eat the fruit of the gods, she can drink the blood of a centaur, or she can immerse herself in the waters of this telling pool." Mab thinks about her options carefully and decides that her best course of action is to immerse herself in the telling pool. Mab becomes impervious to sun light. She travels to the castle to put her plan into action. Mab ventures to the castle and begins to build her elite army of vampires to take over the lands and rule. She invokes the spirit of Gallian into the body of Invictus and spreads her evil through the realm. Mab and Gallian race to the forest. Once there, they meet up with Helena and the tree creatures. Gallian and Mab wreak havoc on the tree creatures for their disloyalty to them. Gallian begins with talks of peace and harmony while waiting for all the tree creatures to assemble. He begins the slaughter with Mab at his side. Mab cuts down the tree creatures; agony and mayhem ensue as swords of fire are summoned. The swords fly in a circular motion and set the tree creatures ablaze, leaving only ash and smoke in their wake. Gallian is pleased with himself. He takes leave with Mab back to the castle

Between procrastinating in school and butting heads with his stepfather, the most he had to worry about was pining for romance. But when the metal band in town turns out to be a deadly cartel of blood-hungry vampires, his senior year of high school goes from mismanaged to manhunt, and he becomes the number one target for every blood sucker in the city. His only hope for survival lies in the hands of another class of vampire – the well-dressed Arthurian knights. Not only are they real-life descendants of King Arthur’s Knights of the Round Table, they are both vampires and vampire hunters. They operate under a strict code, obey the Pendragon queen, and are far from forthcoming with Connor about, well, anything really. Especially the truth. Caught in a whirlwind of deadly ghouls, criminals, and creatures of the night, Connor doesn’t know who to trust as he fights for the lives of himself and his friends. With stakes this high, Connor plays a deadly game of cat and mouse with both sides. Every vampire in the city wants to control him. If they can’t? Whether the evil undead or the mythical knights, safe to say that vampires and mercy don’t mix.

Book The Universal Vampire

Download or read book The Universal Vampire written by Barbara Brodman and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2013 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the publication of John Polidori's The Vampyre (1819), the vampire has been a mainstay of Western culture, appearing consistently in literature, art, music (notably opera), film, television, graphic novels and popular culture in general. Even before its entrance into the realm of arts and letters in the early nineteenth century, the vampire was a feared creature of Eastern European folklore and legend, rising from the grave at night to consume its living loved ones and neighbors, often converting them at the same time into fellow vampires. A major question exists within vampire scholarship: to what extent is this creature a product of European cultural forms, or is the vampire indeed a universal, perhaps even archetypal figure? In this collection of sixteen original essays, the contributors shed light on this question. One essay traces the origins of the legend to the early medieval Norse draugr, an "undead" creature who reflects the underpinnings of Dracula, the latter first appearing as a vampire in Anglo-Irish Bram Stoker's 1897 novel, Dracula. In addition to these investigations of the Western mythic, literary and historic traditions, other essays in this volume move outside Europe to explore vampire figures in Native American and Mesoamerican myth and ritual, as well as the existence of similar vampiric traditions in Japanese, Russian and Latin American art, theatre, literature, film, and other cultural productions. The female vampire looms large, beginning with the Sumerian goddess Lilith, including the nineteenth-century Carmilla, and moving to vampiresses in twentieth-century film, literature, and television series. Scientific explanations for vampires and werewolves constitute another section of the book, including eighteenth-century accounts of unearthing, decapitation and cremation of suspected vampires in Eastern Europe. The vampire's beauty, attainment of immortality and eternal youth are all suggested as reasons for its continued success in contemporary popular culture.
