Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Her best friend is a werewolf. Her boyfriend is a ghoul. And she really, REALLY can't stand her vampire husband. Audra Perez is hard up for cash and looking for a quick fix to her financial woes. After all, a girl needs a roof over her head, not to mention tuition for school. When she auditions to be a stripper and is chosen, things seem fine and dandy until a mysterious-looking gentleman starts to frequent the club. When they start exchanging friendly banter and get to know each other more, they begin dating against club rules. One hot night at his beach house changes her life forever. Things take a turn for the worse when Audra wakes up to find herself a vampire, her lover gone without a trace, and her 'new' life a horrid, laughable mess, as she handles everything with snarky, dry wit and dark humor. Dealing with jackassy clients is just the start of her gripes. And if you think vampires and werewolves can't be the best of friends, think again. Did I also mention she's dating a ghoul now? Don't call him a zombie though, that only pisses him off. And the relationship issues? Well, it's not easy dealing with a boyfriend AND a vampire husband, so let's not even go there... A Raunchy Dark Comedy That Knows No Bounds. TOP TEN FINISHER AT THE 2012 P&E READERS POLLS WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING.... "Take the bold sexiness of 50 Shades of Grey, add the supernatural action-packed twists of an episode of True Blood, and if you add a heavy dose of sass, playfulness, and humor you'll have an idea of what you can expect from Diary of a Vampire Stripper." Gothic Beauty Magazine (issue 41) "This is not just another vampire book." (4 stars) Reader's Favorite "DIARY OF A VAMPIRE STRIPPER is funny in the same ways that the movies BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, MY BEST FRIEND IS A VAMPIRE, and I KISSED A VAMPIRE are funny: they're campy, but they're campy with heart...It's everything you hope it will be: funny, romantic, snarky, and a great read!" Fresh Fiction This is a rocking, fast paced, uproarious story that will leave audiences laughing hysterically and still totally heart warmed. For anyone who loves vampires and weres, and some seriously complex issues, this is the novel for you. (4 stars) Night Owl Romance The originality of this is just brilliant and it sucked me in right from the start. (5 stars) Book Devotee Reviews Diary of a Vampire Stripper is so different and original and just plain fun to read....If you are a fan of paranormal romances with a touch of mystery and a lot of fun, then I recommend Diary of a Vampire Stripper! "Diary of a Vampire Stripper" will challenge your imagination and welcome you to move along with Audra and embrace her every thought and emotion. Book The Erotic Thriller in Contemporary Cinema

Download or read book The Erotic Thriller in Contemporary Cinema written by Linda Ruth Williams and published by Indiana University Press. This book was released on 2005 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This bold and original book examines in detail a relatively new genre of film--the erotic thriller. Linda Ruth Williams traces the genre's exploitation of pornography and noir, discusses mainstream stars (including Michael Douglas and Sharon Stone) as well as genre-branded direct-to-video stars, charts the work of key producers and directors, and considers home videos as a distinct form of viewing pleasure. She maps the history of the genre, analyzing hundreds of movies from blockbusters such as Basic Instinct, Fatal Attraction, and In the Cut to straight-to-video film titles such as Carnal Crimes, Sins of Desire, and Night Eyes. Williams's witty and illuminating readings tell the story of this sensational genre and contribute to the analysis of mainstream screen sex--and its censorship--at the beginning of the 21st century. She shows that as the erotic thriller plays out the sexual fantasies of contemporary America, it also provides a vehicle for marketing those fantasies globally.

Book Spoofing the Vampire

Download or read book Spoofing the Vampire written by Simon Bacon and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2022-10-10 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Famous for being deathly serious, the vampire genre has a consistent yet often critically overlooked subgenre--the comedic spoof and satire. This is the first book dedicated entirely to documenting and analyzing the vampire comedy on film and television. Various types of comedy are discussed, outlining the important differences between spoofing, serious-spoofing, parody and satire. Seminal films such as Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein, Love at First Bite, Vampire in Brooklyn, Dracula: Dead and Loving It and What We Do In the Shadows are featured. More importantly, this book demonstrates how comedy is central to both the common perception of the vampire and the genre's ever-evolving character, making it an essential read for those interested in the laughing undead and creatures that guffaw in the night.

Download or read book Dangerous Curves written by Jeffrey A. Brown and published by Univ. Press of Mississippi. This book was released on 2011-04-18 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dangerous Curves: Action Heroines, Gender, Fetishism, and Popular Culture addresses the conflicted meanings associated with the figure of the action heroine as she has evolved in various media forms since the late 1980s. Jeffrey A. Brown discusses this immensely popular character type, the action heroine, as an example of, and challenge to, existing theories about gender as a performance identity. Her assumption of heroic masculine traits combined with her sexualized physical depiction demonstrates the ambiguous nature of traditional gender expectations and indicates a growing awareness of more aggressive and violent roles for women. The excessive sexual fetishization of action heroines is a central theme throughout. The topic is analyzed as an insight into the transgressive image of the dominatrix, as a reflection of the shift in popular feminism from second-wave politics to third-wave and postfeminist pleasures, and as a form of patriarchal backlash that facilitates a masculine fantasy of controlling strong female characters. Brown interprets the action heroine as a representation of changing gender dynamics that balances the sexual objectification of women with progressive models of female strength. While the primary focus of this study is the action heroine as represented in Hollywood film and television, the book also includes the action heroine's emergence in contemporary popular literature, comic books, cartoons, and video games.

Download or read book Reel Knockouts written by Martha McCaughey and published by University of Texas Press. This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Thelma and Louise outfought the men who had tormented them, women across America discovered what male fans of action movies have long known—the empowering rush of movie violence. Yet the duo's escapades also provoked censure across a wide range of viewers, from conservatives who felt threatened by the up-ending of women's traditional roles to feminists who saw the pair's use of male-style violence as yet another instance of women's co-option by the patriarchy. In the first book-length study of violent women in movies, Reel Knockouts makes feminist sense of violent women in films from Hollywood to Hong Kong, from top-grossing to direct-to-video, and from cop-action movies to X-rated skin flicks. Contributors from a variety of disciplines analyze violent women's respective places in the history of cinema, in the lives of viewers, and in the feminist response to male violence against women. The essays in part one, "Genre Films," turn to film cycles in which violent women have routinely appeared. The essays in part two, "New Bonds and New Communities," analyze movies singly or in pairs to determine how women's movie brutality fosters solidarity amongst the characters or their audiences. All of the contributions look at films not simply in terms of whether they properly represent women or feminist principles, but also as texts with social contexts and possible uses in the re-construction of masculinity and femininity.

Book Images of the Modern Vampire

Download or read book Images of the Modern Vampire written by Barbara Brodman and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2013-10-04 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the predecessor to this book, The Universal Vampire: Origins and Evolution of a Legend, Brodman and Doan presented discussions of the development of the vampire in the West from the early Norse draugr figure to the medieval European revenant and ultimately to Dracula, who first appears as a vampire in Anglo-Irish Bram Stoker’s novel, Dracula, published in 1897. The essays in that collection also looked at the non-Western vampire in Native American and Mesoamerican traditions, Asian and Russian vampires in popular culture, and the vampire in contemporary novels, film and television. The essays in this collection continue that multi-cultural and multigeneric discussion by tracing the development of the post-modern vampire, in films ranging from Shadow of a Doubt to Blade, The Wisdom of Crocodiles and Interview with the Vampire; the male and female vampires in the Twilight films, Sookie Stackhouse novels and TrueBlood television series; the vampire in African American women’s fiction, Anne Rice’s novels and in the post-apocalyptic I Am Legend; vampires in Japanese anime; and finally, to bring the volumes full circle, the presentation of a new Irish Dracula play, adapted from the novel and set in 1888.

To boost ratings and save the lives of her strange new friends, Ciara rebrands the station as "WVMP, the Lifeblood of Rock 'n' Roll." In the ultimate con, she hides the DJs' vampire nature in plain sight, disguising the bloody truth as a marketing gimmick. Soon the stakes are higher—and the perils graver—than any con game Ciara's ever played…
