This book was released on 2017-11-10 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Value of the High-Pressure Steam Test of Portland Cements Unsoundness of a Portland cement, which is evidenced with age by a lack of cohesion and strength, may not be apparent for weeks or months after the cement is hydrated. This fact has created a demand for an accelerated test of soundness, in answer to which a large number of such tests have been proposed. A11 accelerated tests are designed to hasten the action of any expansive constituents of the cement, producing thereby evidence of unsoundness in a few hours or days. Book Properties of Portland Cement Having a High Magnesia Content Classic Reprint

Download or read book Properties of Portland Cement Having a High Magnesia Content Classic Reprint written by P. H. Bates and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-28 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Properties of Portland Cement Having a High Magnesia Content Further investigations on this subject are needed because Of the failures of mortars and concretes which have been attributed to such cements. The specifications under which cements are usually bought do not demand the making Of test pieces of the material to be tested at late periods'; but high-magnesia cements are gener ally conceded to be able to pass all the requirements demanded of the short-time tests. However, with the hydration Of the com pounds present in such cements it is claimed by some that there is a Slow but gradual increase in volume, which is manifested at late periods by low results for the strength of test pieces and finally by complete disintegration of the materialf While such cements may be satisfactory at early periods and pass the usual specifica tions, there is a strong belief in the minds of many that ultimately they will fail. As this phenomenon Of the large increase in volume accompanying the slow hydration of the constituents in high-magnesia cements can be Observed apparently only at late periods, it is essential to Obtain some. Definite information in regard to this property, if it exists. It might be possible with this infor mation to make definite predictions as to the ultimate behavior of such cements, even though short-time tests should Show them to be satisfactory. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Summary: This book presents the properties of concrete as needed in concrete construction, including strength and durability. All concrete ingredients (cementing materials, water, aggregates, admixtures, and fibers) are reviewed for their optimal use in designing and proportioning concrete mixtures. Applicable ASTM, AASHTO, and ACI standards are referred to extensively. The use of concrete from design to batching, mixing, transporting, placing, consolidating, finishing, and curing is addressed. Concrete sustainability, along with special concretes, including high-performance concretes, are also reviewed.

Book Compressive Strength of Concrete

Download or read book Compressive Strength of Concrete written by Pavel Krivenko and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2020-03-11 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concrete made using mineral cements, the raw materials which on earth are practically endless, is known as one of the oldest building materials and during the last decades of the twentieth century has become a dominant building material for general use. At the same time, the requirements of the quality of concrete and its performance properties, in particular compressive strength, durability, economical efficiency, and low negative impact of its manufacture on the environment have not yet been completely met. Bearing these requirements in mind, researchers and engineers worldwide are working on how to satisfy these requirements. This book has been written by researchers and experts in the field and provides the state of the art on recent progress achieved on the properties of concrete, including concrete in which industrial by-products are utilized. The book is dedicated to graduate students, researchers, and practicing engineers in related fields.

This book was released on 2013-08-27 with total page 619 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For courses in Civil Engineering Materials, Construction Materials, and Construction Methods and Materials offered in Civil, Environmental, or Construction engineering departments. This introduction gives students a basic understanding of the material selection process and the behavior of materials — a fundamental requirement for all civil and construction engineers performing design, construction, and maintenance. The authors cover the various materials used by civil and construction engineers in one useful reference, limiting the vast amount of information available to the introductory level, concentrating on current practices, and extracting information that is relevant to the general education of civil and construction engineers. A large number of experiments, figures, sample problems, test methods, and homework problems gives students opportunity for practice and review.

Book Twentieth Century Building Materials

Download or read book Twentieth Century Building Materials written by Thomas C. Jester and published by Getty Publications. This book was released on 2014-08-01 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the concluding decades of the twentieth century, the historic preservation community increasingly turned its attention to modern buildings, including bungalows from the 1930s, gas stations and diners from the 1940s, and office buildings and architectural homes from the 1950s. Conservation efforts, however, were often hampered by a lack of technical information about the products used in these structures, and to fill this gap Twentieth-Century Building Materials was developed by the U.S. Department of the Interior’s National Park Service and first published in 1995. Now, this invaluable guide is being reissued—with a new preface by the book’s original editor. With more than 250 illustrations, including a full-color photographic essay, the volume remains an indispensable reference on the history and conservation of modern building materials. Thirty-seven essays written by leading experts offer insights into the history, manufacturing processes, and uses of a wide range of materials, including glass block, aluminum, plywood, linoleum, and gypsum board. Readers will also learn about how these materials perform over time and discover valuable conservation and repair techniques. Bibliographies and sources for further research complete the volume. The book is intended for a wide range of conservation professionals including architects, engineers, conservators, and material scientists engaged in the conservation of modern buildings, as well as scholars in related disciplines.
