Book Exploring Values Through Literature Multimedia and Literacy Events

Download or read book Exploring Values Through Literature Multimedia and Literacy Events written by Patricia Ruggiano Schmidt and published by IAP. This book was released on 2008-09-01 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exploring Values Through Multimedia, Literature and Literacy Events was written by teachers and educational researchers for classrooms and schools interested in developing learning communities that develop critical and compassionate future citizens. Through the use of specific multimedia, literature and literacy events, this book presents numerous ways for classroom teachers and schools to promote respectful, responsible, caring, and sharing students in a democratic society. Beginning with Plato’s message that we cannot let the formation of good citizens to chance, Exploring Values Through Multimedia, Literature and Literacy Events takes the reader through a brief history of character education and moral development and a summary of multimedia’s impact on our lives. The chapters that follow are devoted to teacher tested classroom and school programs, activities, and resources for the understanding of diverse human perspectives. Included in several chapters are the unique ways classes might analyze how and why information is presented in the media. Due to the constant media bombardment on our lives, the goal if this volume is to support our students as they discern the meanings of truth and justice.

This much-needed book distils over half a century of the authors' combined experience as university professors, consultants, and advisors to corporate training departments. In a lively, hands-on fashion, it describes the fundamental elements in every learning situation, allowing readers to adapt the suggestions to their particular teaching context. It sparks reflection on what we do in the classroom, why we do it, and how it might be done more effectively. The chapters are broadly organized according to things you do before class, things you do during class, and things you do in between and after class, so that every instructor, whether newly-minted PhDs facing their first classroom experience, experienced faculty looking to polish their teaching techniques, consultants who want to have more impact, or corporate trainers wishing to develop in-house teaching skills, can benefit from the invaluable advice given.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Value education is a cornerstone of holistic development, providing the foundation upon which individuals build their ethical, moral, and civic virtues. In an era marked by rapid technological advancements, social upheavals, and environmental challenges, the need for a robust value education framework has never been more critical. This book aims to offer a comprehensive exploration of value education, addressing its theoretical underpinnings, practical applications, and the myriad challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. The concept of value education is not new. Ancient civilizations have long recognized the importance of imparting values to younger generations. From the teachings of Socrates and Confucius to the moral philosophies of Mahatma Gandhi, history is replete with examples of thought leaders who emphasized the importance of values in personal and societal development. However, as societies evolve, so too must our approaches to value education. This book is structured to provide a holistic view of value education. We begin with an exploration of its definitions and historical perspectives, setting the stage for a deeper understanding of its importance in contemporary society. The theoretical foundations are then examined, drawing from various philosophical, psychological, and sociocultural perspectives.
