Book Toolkit for value chain analysis and market development integrating climate resilience and gender responsiveness

Download or read book Toolkit for value chain analysis and market development integrating climate resilience and gender responsiveness written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2020-10-01 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This toolkit aims to help countries in selecting and analysing value chains for opportunities to improve climate change resilience and reduce gender inequalities. It intends to provide policy makers, planners, project developers, technical advisors and implementers at local, regional or national level with good practices of climate-resilient and gender-responsive value chain development. It aims to act as a repository of relevant tools and methodologies for identifying relevant stakeholders and engaging with them to collect data and analyse it to design interventions. Climate change threatens agricultural value chains, and having a gender-responsive value chain approach is useful in analysing the climate risks, as it looks at stages during and beyond production, while using a more systemic approach to risk management.

Book Strategic analysis and intervention plan for potatoes and potato products in the Agro Commodities Procurement Zone of the pilot Integrated Agro Industrial Park in Central Eastern Oromia Ethiopia

Download or read book Strategic analysis and intervention plan for potatoes and potato products in the Agro Commodities Procurement Zone of the pilot Integrated Agro Industrial Park in Central Eastern Oromia Ethiopia written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2019-09-02 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the current Second Growth and Transformation Plan (2015-2020), the Government of Ethiopia expects the agro-industrial sector to play key role in economic growth of the Country. Accordingly, the creation of Integrated Agro-Industrial Parks has been identified as one of the key mechanisms for accelerating the development of the sector and the structural transformation of agriculture. Agro-industrial parks will play a significant role in transitioning Ethiopia from an agricultural-led into an industrial-led economy. In view of that, the development of Integrated Agro-Industrial Parks has been prioritized in Ethiopia’s national development strategy and four Agro Industrial Growth Corridors have been selected for piloting the establishment of four Integrated Agro-Industrial Parks. The initiative aims at driving the structural transformation of the Ethiopian economy while reducing rural poverty and creating a better environment for increased investments in agro-processing and allied sectors. Since 1981, FAO has been a strong partner of the Government of Ethiopia towards the achievement of national food security and economic growth goals. FAO is working closely with the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources to empower value chain actors and to promote inclusive, efficient and sustainable agricultural value chains. The present document is the fourth one of a series of detailed analyses of prioritized commodities, which will lead to inclusive, sustainable and stronger agricultural value chains in the Agro-Commodities Procurement Zone of the pilot Integrated Agro-Industrial Park in Central-Eastern Oromia.

Book Nutrition sensitive value chain analysis for carrot and papaya in Al Batinah North Oman

Download or read book Nutrition sensitive value chain analysis for carrot and papaya in Al Batinah North Oman written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2022-05-11 with total page 109 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Sultanate of Oman is experiencing a nutrition transition, characterized by shifts in diet, lifestyle and disease burden. The National Nutrition Strategy of Oman 2014-2050 and the Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development Strategy SARDS 2040 have emphasized the importance of adequate intake of fruits and vegetables while decreasing the consumption of energy-dense foods. FAO collaborated with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MAFWR) and Zubair Small Enterprises Centre (Zubair SEC) to conduct an inclusive Nutrition Sensitive Value Chain Analysis (NSVCA). The geographical focus was on Al Batinah North, one of the main agricultural governorates in Oman. Two commodities were selected by MAFWR and the Ministry of Health based on a scoring method: papaya and carrots. This NSVCA aimed at mapping the current landscape of constraints and opportunities in supply and demand of safe and nutritious food commodities across these two value chains. It focuses on SMEs related to food and agriculture, farmer organizations, smallholders and other actors along the value chains. The NSVCA contributes mainly to SO1, SO3 and SO4 through improved knowledge of the food system in Oman and providing a variety of evidence based intervention and investment opportunities along the value chain. The findings will allow decision-makers to identify specific policy interventions which will leverage the potential of these value chains for both income generation and better nutrition outcomes.

Book Value chain transformation Taking stock of WorldFish research on value chains and markets

Download or read book Value chain transformation Taking stock of WorldFish research on value chains and markets written by Kruijssen, F. and published by WorldFish. This book was released on 2016-07-12 with total page 47 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goal of WorldFish’s research on markets and value chains is to increase the benefits to resource-poor people from fisheries and aquaculture value chains by researching (1) key barriers to resource-poor men, women and other marginalized groups gaining greater benefits from participation in value chains, including barriers related to the availability, affordability and quality of nutrient-rich fish for resource-poor consumers; (2) interventions to overcome those barriers; and (3) mechanisms that are most effective for scaling up of value chain interventions. This paper aims to promote and document learning across WorldFish’s value chain research efforts in Asia and Africa. It has three main objectives: (1) to take stock of WorldFish’s past and ongoing research on value chains; (2) to draw out commonalities and differences between these projects; and (3) to provide a synthesis of some learning that can guide future work.

This book was released on 2019-12-05 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Fisheries and Aquaculture Technical Paper presents the findings of a value chain analysis of the aquafeed (aquatic animal feed) sub-sector for the striped catfish (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus) farming in Viet Nam, including a review of aquafeed regulatory framework in the country. The striped catfish (pangasius) production sub-sector is characterized by intensive pond production technology and high-quality production inputs. In 2014, annual production of pangasius was 1 143 797 tonnes. The key actors in the value chain comprise input suppliers, including feed ingredients suppliers, feed manufacturers, and hatchery operators (seed producers), along with fingerling and grow-out farmers, fish processors, exporters, consumers and service providers. In recent years, large-scale vertically integrated enterprises have started to emerge that operate along the entire value chain, and these now dominate many areas of production.

Book Global Value Chain Development Report 2021

Download or read book Global Value Chain Development Report 2021 written by Banque asiatique de développement and published by . This book was released on 2022-01-25 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A radical shift is underway in global value chains as they increasingly move beyond traditional manufacturing processes to services and other intangible assets. Digitization is a leading factor in this transformation, which is being accelerated by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. The Global Value Chain Development Report, the third of a biennial series, explores this shift beyond production. The report shows how the rise of services value chains offers a new path to development and how protectionism and geopolitical tensions, environmental risks, and pandemics are undermining the stability of global value chains and forcing their reorganization geographically. It is co-published by the WTO, the Asian Development Bank, the Research Institute for Global Value Chains at the University of International Business and Economics, the Institute of Developing Economies, and the China Development Research Foundation.
