Book excerpt: Il n'existe aucune valeur normative permettant de situer, dans une perspective populationnelle, le niveau de développement des habiletés motrices globales (HMG) des enfants québécois âgés de 6 à 12 ans. Le but de cette recherche est de développer une batterie de tests mesurant les HMG puis de compiler des valeurs normatives, qui permettront de doter les intervenants, d'outils d'évaluation afin d'obtenir un portrait objectif du développement moteur de cette population. Cette batterie de tests a été administrée à près de 3000 enfants québécois, âgés de 6 à 12 ans. Les tests ont été administrés dans 4 régions du Québec. Les 5 déterminants moteurs suivants ont été mesurés: 1. Agilité 2. Coordination 3. Vitesse de réaction 4. Vitesse segmentaire 5. Équilibre. Globalement, les résultats de ce mémoire permettent de constater que le développement des HMG est différent entre garçons et filles sur près de la moitié des variables mesurées. De plus, bien que les HMG tendent à s'améliorer avec l'âge, certaines qualités motrices démontrent un certain plafonnement vers la fin de l'enfance.

Book excerpt: La littérature scientifique suggère qu'il existe un lien entre les fonctions motrices et l'adaptation psychosociale des enfants (Bar-Haim & Bart, 2006; Kim, Carlson, Curby, & Winsler, 2016; Kolovelonis & Goudas, 2013). Certains chercheurs se sont intéressés au rôle des compétences motrices dans le fonctionnement d'un enfant sur le plan social et émotionnel (Cummins, Piek, & Dyck, 2005; Purper-Ouakil, Michel, Baup, & Mouren-Siméoni, 2002). Toutefois, la littérature recensée s'intéresse davantage aux associations entre les capacités motrices et l'adaptation psychosociale chez les enfants atteints d'un trouble d'acquisition de la coordination (TAC) ou d'un trouble déficitaire de l'attention avec ou sans hyperactivité (TDAH). Dans ce contexte, cette présente recherche a pour but d'évaluer le lien prédictif entre les habiletés motrices telles que l'agilité, l'équilibre, la coordination et différentes variables associées à l'adaptation psychosociale, telles que les symptômes émotionnels, les problèmes de conduite, l'hyperactivité et l'inattention, les relations avec les pairs, les comportements prosociaux et les processus d'autorégulation chez des enfants de la population générale. Les données de cette étude sont tirées d'une recherche de nature quasi-expérimentale réalisée en 2013 et visant à évaluer l'impact de différents programmes de développement des habiletés motrices. Deux temps de mesure ont été réalisés: T1) avant le début des ateliers des différents programmes (début septembre) et T2) à la fin de la mise en place des programmes (fin décembre). Les participants ont été recrutés dans cinq écoles de la Commission scolaire du Lac-Saint-Jean, soit un échantillon de 188 enfants âgés entre 5 et 7 ans de première année du primaire (48,1 % de filles, 51,9 % de garçons). Les capacités motrices (vitesse de réaction, agilité, coordination et équilibre) des enfants ont été évaluées à l'aide du test des compétences de l'UQAC-UQAM (Leone, 2008). La santé psychologique des enfants a été évaluée à l'aide du Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (Goodman, 1997) rempli par les parents et les capacités d'autorégulation des jeunes par le test Preschool Self-Regulation Assessment (Smith-Donald, Raver, Hayes, & Richardson, 2007). Les résultats d'analyses de régressions multiples indiquent que les problèmes de comportement des enfants au temps 2 sont significativement reliés aux problèmes de comportements au temps 1 ainsi qu'aux habiletés motrices impliquant la coordination main-pied au temps 1. De plus, les résultats indiquent que les symptômes d'hyperactivité et d'inattention au temps 2 sont surtout expliqués par les symptômes d'hyperactivité et d'inattention au temps 1, autant chez les garçons que chez les filles. Un effet d'interaction selon le sexe a également été observé, révélant que l'agilité au temps 1 est reliée aux symptômes d'hyperactivité et d'inattention au temps 2 seulement chez les garçons. Aucun lien significatif n'est ressorti entre les habiletés motrices et les symptômes émotionnels, les comportements prosociaux et les relations avec les pairs. Dans l'ensemble, cette étude suggère qu'il existe un lien entre certaines habiletés motrices et certaines dimensions de l'adaptation psychologique, mais que ce lien est faible et pourrait être en partie expliqué par d'autres variables intermédiaires non évaluées dans le cadre de cette étude. Les résultats issus de cette étude fournissent de nouvelles pistes de recherche dans le domaine du développement moteur et de l'adaptation psychosociale des enfants d'âge scolaire.

Book excerpt: « Au préscolaire, les acteurs gravitant autour de l’enfant ont une responsabilité vis-à-vis son développement global. Les facettes interdépendantes du développement global comprennent entre autres, l’aspect moteur, plus précisément dans le contexte de la présente étude, la motricité globale. Or, depuis 2001, le ministère de l’Éducation du Québec (MÉQ, 2001a) met en place une réforme qui demande aux enseignantes du préscolaire 5 ans d’évaluer les enfants sur le plan moteur. En ce sens, l’objectif de l’étude est de documenter les pratiques évaluatives d’enseignantes du préscolaire 5 ans à l’égard de la motricité globale chez les enfants. Pour ce faire, 16 enseignantes d’une commission scolaire de l’Est-du-Québec ont rempli un questionnaire autorapporté. Les résultats montrent que les enseignantes évaluent un ensemble de mouvements (locomotion et non-locomotion) et d’actions (manipulation) peu complexes, lorsque l’enfant est autonome. La prise d’information s’opère à l’aide de matériels simples, d’une grille d’évaluation ou d’un cahier personnel de consignations, et plus dans des environnements de proximité que dans les milieux naturels. Leurs évaluations concordent avec les recommandations ministérielles et celles des chercheurs. De plus, les tests normés de motricité globale sont méconnus des enseignantes sondées. Dans l’acte, elles collaborent plus fréquemment avec l’enseignant d’éducation physique et à la santé. La communication des résultats s’effectue davantage lors des premier et troisième bulletins. Elles accordent légèrement plus d’importance à la motricité fine qu’à la motricité globale lors de l’évaluation. En général, en ce qui a trait aux connaissances en lien avec la motricité globale, elles sont justifiées à la hausse par leur formation ainsi que l’expérience et à la baisse par le manque de temps et de formation. Puis, l’aisance se justifie à la hausse par le fait qu’elles soient sensibilisées au sujet, leur expérience en enseignement ainsi que la collaboration possible avec d’autres intervenants et à la baisse par le manque de formation et des agirs pédagogiques intuitifs. De plus, plusieurs facteurs sont susceptibles de rendre l’évaluation de la motricité globale difficile. Although typical aging does not cause low vision, four major causes of vision impairment are directly related to the aging process: (1) age-related macular degeneration (AMD), (2) diabetic retinopathy, (3) glaucoma, and (4) cataracts. Instances of these impairments are expected to double by the year 2050, making low vision a significant public health issue. This Practice Guideline includes occupational therapy assessment and intervention guidelines for older adults who have visual acuity impairments, visual field impairments, or both as a result of a low vision diagnosis. Screening, referral, and evaluation are covered for clients for central visual field impairments, such as AMD and cataract; peripheral field impairments, such as glaucoma, hemianopsia, and quadrantanopsia; and mixed visual field loss, such as diabetic retinopathy. This work can help occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants, as well as individuals who manage, reimburse, or set policy regarding occupational therapy services, understand the contribution of occupational therapy to treating older adults with low vision. Appendixes include selected diagnostic and billing codes and evidence tables.
