Divided into 18 sections across Utah, Salt Lake, and Davis Counties, this book identifies boat put-in and take-out sites and the connecting roads between those locations. Each water trail section is supported by a narrative and a map making it easy for enthusiasts to find the section of the Jordan River they are interested in. This book is the outcome of the author's many volunteer adventures introducing the river to boating enthusiasts. The Jordan River Parkway's paved path is included as it is a great way to scout the river before getting on the water. This 120-page book is in full color and includes 107 images. When the State of Utah developed master plans for the state's sovereign rivers, he engaged to present the recreational users' perspective because identifying locations where infrastructure is needed is a key element in the planning-funding cycle. Water trails are a challenge because enthusiasts need to know where to put-in and where to take-out and the connecting roads between those locations. There was no definitive guide showing enthusiasts how to do this, so the author researched the river and began leading group events introducing enthusiasts to Utah's Jordan River. This guidebook is the outcome of many volunteer events the author organized to stay active outdoors in nature.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Underground Water in the Valleys of Utah Lake and Jordan River, Utah The valleys of Utah Lake and Jordan River are situated in north - central Utah, in the extreme eastern part of the Great Basin. The lofty Wasatch Range (pl. I), the western most Oi the Rocky Mountain system, limits the valleys on the east, and relatively low basin ranges - the Oquirrh, Lake, and East Tintic mountains - determine them on the west. The valleys trend north and south, and are almost separated by the low east-west Traverse Range, the Slopes of which constitute a dam for Utah Lake, which drains through Jordan River to Great Salt Lake. The area under consideration is the most populous and flourishing part of the State. Salt Lake City and Provo, the first and third cities in the State, and many other thriving settlements are there located. At' Bingham Junction and Murray a number of smelters treat the ores from near-by mines, but agriculture is the main industry. Water for irriga tion is supplied by mountain streams, and intensive farming is successfully. Pursued. The practice of irrigation was begun by the Mormon pioneers in 1847, and has been dis cussed in several publications; little attention, however, has been given to the under ground water resources, and, so far as the writer is aware, they have not before been described. The present paper outlines conditions Of occurrence of the subterranean waters and describes their development in the valleys of Utah Lake and Jordan River. Here, they inevitably cross paths with the housewives and their allies. Neighborhood vandalism, vicious gossip, and dirty tricks ensue. The two beleaguered housewives and their ragtag grassroots supporters hunker down to resist a brutal lawsuit, intended to shut them up and break them with legal bills. An important environmental fight morphs into an even more significant battle for free speech. Will a glass and concrete city rise in the river bottoms?
