This book was released on 2013-09-14 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book includes papers from keynote lecture and oral presentations of Plant and Microbe Adaptations to Cold (PMAC) 2012, an international conference on winter hardiness of crop and pathogenic microbes. The PMAC has been started in 1997 in Japan as an interdisciplinary forum for scientists and extension people working in the field in plant pathology, plant physiology, microbiology, and crop breeding to increase our knowledge and improve our understanding of overwintering of crops, forages and grasses and solve the problems associated with losses due to freezing and heavy snow cover. Successive meetings have been held in Iceland (2000), Canada (2003), Italy (2006), and Norway (2009). PMAC2012 will be a special meeting with a focus on global climate change, food security and agriculture sustainability and the whole program will be arranged to reflect this theme. The topics covered by this proceedings includes, global warming in agricultural environment, plant adaptations to cold, microbial adaptations to cold, plant-microbe interaction under cold, and molecular breeding for winter hardiness. The researches range from molecular biology to ecology and breeding. Experts in the field will report cutting edge research and thoughtful strategies for sustainability.

Download or read book Taxonomy and Ecology of Indian Fungi written by K. G. Mukerji and published by I. K. International Pvt Ltd. This book was released on 2010 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fungal world embodies diversified groups which colonize, multiply and survive in nature on many macro- and micro-ecological niches and substrates. Fungi are eukaryotic, achlorophyllous, filamentous or unicellular living organisms which are ubiquitous and cosmopolitan in distribution. Of the estimated 1.5 million fungal species, more than 98,000 fungal species have been described. Approximately 28,000 fungal species are reported from India. The fungi play an important role in biodegradation, recycling of organic matter, pharmaceutical industries, agriculture, medicine, industry, bioremediation, waste management and other activities. In India hardly we have database but for few a books on Indian fungi, compiled from time to time by some mycologists. The present book includes 16 chapters contributed by eminent mycologists. Chapters include data on diversity, taxonomy, ecology and application of Helicosporous fungi, genus Spegazzinia, Rusts and Smuts, Chaetomiaceae, Macrophomina, Rhizoctonia, Russula, wild edible fungi, poisonous mushrooms, insect fungi and other related aspects. This book will be very useful and a valuable addition to the existing literature on the same subject.

Download or read book Current Concepts in Botany written by K. G. Mukerji and published by I. K. International Pvt Ltd. This book was released on 2006 with total page 491 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the recent years, a significant number of advances has been made in all aspects of plant sciences and to bring these diverse concepts and methodologies together is a Herculean task. That is precisely what the effort of the editors has been in writing Current Concepts in Botany, which is a collection of review articles, as well as original research papers from contemporary fellow botanists from all over the world. This volume contains 31 authoritative and through-provoking articles about written by leading scientists in the field. The objective in developing this volume was to offer a detailed overview of the applied aspects of botany in terms of its theoretical, methodological, and empirical contributions. The interdisciplinary aspects of the subject have been emphasized in the present volume.

Download or read book Fungi of Australia written by Kálmán Vánky and published by CSIRO Publishing. This book was released on 2008 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The smut fungi (Ustilaginomycetes and some Urediniomycetes) are parasites mainly of flowering plants. In Australia, these fungi include 296 species in 43 genera. Responsible for devastating crop losses in the past, their importance for Australian agriculture has been reduced since the introduction of fungicidal seed treatments and the development of disease resistant varieties. However, some smuts remain serious pathogens of cereal crops elsewhere in the world, thus highlighting the importance of accurate identification and the need for a reliable understanding of the taxonomy of the entire group, including endemic and established species. Includes identification keys to genera and species, full synonymy, descriptions and comprehensive lists of specimens.
