Book Building Economics Theory and Practice

Download or read book Building Economics Theory and Practice written by Rosalie Ruegg and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 492 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We no longer build buildings like we used to nor do we pay for them in the same way. Buildings today are no longer only shelter but are also life support systems, communication terminals, data manufacturing centers, and much more. Buildings are incredibly expensive tools that must be constantly adjusted to function efficiently. The economics of building has become as complex as its design. When buildings were shelter they lasted longer than their builders. The av erage gothic master mason lived 35 or 40 years. Cathedrals took 3 or 4 hundred years to build. Cost estimates were verified by great great grandchildren of the original designer. Today, creative economics has become as important as creative design and creative building. The dient brings builder, contractor, architect, and facilities manager to account in their life time. The cost of building can therefore no longer be left to chance or act of god. Solutions are no longer as ingeniously simple as those proposed by a Flor entine builder early in the 15th century. He proposed to center the dome of S. Maria deI Fiore on a great mound of earth mixed with pennies. When the job was done street urchins would carry away the dirt in their search for the pennies. This was a serious suggestion offered by an early construction manager before Brunelleschi solved the problem more sensibly.

Book Clinical Informatics Study Guide

Download or read book Clinical Informatics Study Guide written by John T. Finnell and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-04-22 with total page 427 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This completely updated study guide textbook is written to support the formal training required to become certified in clinical informatics. The content has been extensively overhauled to introduce and define key concepts using examples drawn from real-world experiences in order to impress upon the reader the core content from the field of clinical informatics. The book groups chapters based on the major foci of the core content: health care delivery and policy; clinical decision-making; information science and systems; data management and analytics; leadership and managing teams; and professionalism. The chapters do not need to be read or taught in order, although the suggested order is consistent with how the editors have structured their curricula over the years. Clinical Informatics Study Guide: Text and Review serves as a reference for those seeking to study for a certifying examination independently or periodically reference while in practice. This includes physicians studying for board examination in clinical informatics as well as the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) health informatics certification. This new edition further refines its place as a roadmap for faculty who wish to go deeper in courses designed for physician fellows or graduate students in a variety of clinically oriented informatics disciplines, such as nursing, dentistry, pharmacy, radiology, health administration and public health.

Book Sustainable Remediation of Contaminated Sites

Download or read book Sustainable Remediation of Contaminated Sites written by Krishna Reddy and published by Momentum Press. This book was released on 2015-02-23 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a holistic approach to remediation that considers ancillary environmental impacts and aims to optimize net effects to the environment. It addresses a broad range of environmental, social, and economic impacts during all remediation phases, and achieves remedial goals through more efficient, sustainable strategies that conserve resources and protect air, water, and soil quality through reduced emissions and other waste burdens. Inside, the authors simultaneously encourage the reuse of remediated land and enhanced long-term financial returns for investments. Though the potential benefits are enormous, many environmental professionals and project stakeholders do not utilize green and sustainable technologies because they are unaware of methods for selection and implementation. This book describes the decision framework, presents qualitative and quantitative assessment tools, including multi-disciplinary metrics, to assess sustainability, and reviews potential new technologies.
