Book Use of Vertical Electrical Impedance for Nondestructive Evaluation of Concrete Bridge Decks

Download or read book Use of Vertical Electrical Impedance for Nondestructive Evaluation of Concrete Bridge Decks written by Enoch Thomas Boekweg and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 57 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An additional study was performed on a newly constructed bridge deck in Midvale, Utah, that was subject to an unexpected rainstorm during construction. Several forms of nondestructive testing, including VEI testing, were performed on the deck. Statistical analysis of the tests permitted assessment of the bridge deck. Comparing VEI testing with these other NDT methods has not been done before, and the results of this work will assist those who are unfamiliar with VEI with interpretation of VEI data in the context of other, more typical NDT techniques.

Book Vertical Electrical Impedance Measurements on Concrete Bridge Decks Using a Large area Electrode

Download or read book Vertical Electrical Impedance Measurements on Concrete Bridge Decks Using a Large area Electrode written by Jeffrey David Barton and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In regions where chloride-based deicing salts are applied to bridge decks, corrosion of the interior steel reinforcement is a major problem. Vertical electrical impedance (VEI) is an effective measurement technique to quantitatively assess the cover protection on bridges against aggressive chemical penetration of reinforced concrete. In its current form, traditional vertical electrical impedance is time-consuming and destructive because a direct connection to the reinforcing steel is required to provide a ground reference. A new method using a large-area electrode (LAE) permits VEI measurement without a direct electrical connection to the steel reinforcement. The LAE creates a nondestructive, semi-direct, low impedance connection between the measurement electronics and the reinforcing steel.

Book Vertical Electrical Impedance Measurements of Concrete Bridge Decks

Download or read book Vertical Electrical Impedance Measurements of Concrete Bridge Decks written by Jared Scott Baxter and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This research focuses on the creation, validation, automation, and deployment of a nondestructive vertical electrical impedance (VEI) bridge deck assessment apparatus. A multichannel impedance analyzer with a moving platform is developed that can assess the deterioration state of a bridge deck without stationary traffic control. The multichannel apparatus is capable of taking over 500 impedance samples a second and can scan a bridge deck over 500 times faster than more traditional techniques. This research also shows VEI measurements are inversely proportional to the diffusivity of ions through concrete and that an impedance measurement frequency of 25 kHz is the most predictive measurement frequency of diffusivity. Finally, this research demonstrates the utility of VEI measurements by inspecting five asphalt overlaid bridges. VEI measurements were sensitive to defects in membranes and are one of the only nondestructive measurements that provide useful information about the deterioration state of asphalt overlaid bridge decks.

Book Sensitivity of Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy Measurements to Concrete Bridge Deck Properties

Download or read book Sensitivity of Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy Measurements to Concrete Bridge Deck Properties written by Hillary McKenna Argyle and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the uncontrolled laboratory experiments, a single frequency of 200 Hz was selected for impedance testing. Statistical analyses were performed to compare impedance with more traditional test measurements relating to corrosion of reinforcing steel in concrete bridge decks. Longitudinal and transverse cover, dry and wet resistivity, dry and wet half-cell potential, dry linear polarization, and chloride concentration were determined to be correlated with impedance, with p-values less than 0.15.

Book Research Development and Use of an Automated Device for Nondestructive Sonic ultrasonic Testing of Bridge Deck Concrete

Download or read book Research Development and Use of an Automated Device for Nondestructive Sonic ultrasonic Testing of Bridge Deck Concrete written by NDT Engineering (Shrewsbury, MA) and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The research, development fabrication and testing, of an automated sonic/ultrasonic device and the techniques for the evaluation of deck concrete have been completed successfully. Seven bridge decks; six asphalt covered and one bare deck were tested and compared to conditions outlined for repair. In addition, 7 bare and 5 asphalt covered bridge deck sections at the Federal Highway Administration McLean, VA facility were tested. Two of these deck sections were poured at the site and 10 were saw cut, removed, and transported to the McLean site. Buried defects were put into the two sections poured at the site, these were successfully identified by the sonic/ultrasonic technique.

Book Non Destructive Evaluation of Reinforced Concrete Structures Deterioration Processes and Standard Test Methods

Download or read book Non Destructive Evaluation of Reinforced Concrete Structures Deterioration Processes and Standard Test Methods written by Christiane Maierhofer and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2010-06 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This authoritative book provides a comprehensive review of the highly important subject of non-destructive evaluation of reinforced concrete structures. Engineers have a range of sophisticated techniques at their disposal to assess the condition of reinforced concrete structures that do not cause material damage and which usually enable the structure to be used while the surveys are carried out. Non-destructive evaluation of the infrastructure also plays a key role in calculating and prioritising where money should be spent on repair or replacement. Providing details of related techniques and case studies, this book offers an overview of how to plan and implement the NDT of reinforced concrete structures.
