Book USAF Statistical Digest Jan 1949 Jun 1950

Download or read book USAF Statistical Digest Jan 1949 Jun 1950 written by Office of Air Force History and U S Air and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2015-03-30 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The USAF Statistical Digest summarizes the great volume of statistical information collected and published by the various offices in Headquarters, and certain USAF commands. The more important data on the many activities and operations of the USAF are brought together on a uniform basis to serve as an official and basic reference manual. The Jan 1949 - Jun 1950 "USAF Statistical Digest" is the fifth edition of the publication series. Original editions - Army Air Force Statistical Digest (World War II) and Supplement Number 1, 1945 were followed by AAF Statistical Digest 1946 and USAF Statistical Digest 1947. The present issue includes the majority of the tables carried in the earlier volumes with the exception of the section on World War II combat operations. Historical continuity has been preserved, and each series has been brought forward through 1946. Continuing research in the sources and validity of the data has, in several instances, effected major changes and extended the data to cover earlier periods. Several revisions, both in content and format, have been made during the preparation of this issue. For example, the many reorganizations and regroupings of commands preclude the continuity in any series on personnel information by command. To overcome the changes in command structure, a new box head has been introduced at the appropriate date. By this device, reorganization changes become more readily apparent. Where a command has merely undergone a change in name as in the case of Air Materiel Command - from Air Technical Service Command - the newest name is utilized generally throughout the series.

This book was released on 2015-03-25 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The US Air Force Statistical Digest summarizes the great volume of statistical information collected and published by the various offices in USAF Headquarters and certain Air Force Commands. The more important data on the major activities and operations of the USAF are brought together on a uniform basis to serve as an official and basic reference manual. The 1948 Statistical Digest is the third edition in the annual Series. Original editions - Army Air Forces Statistical Digest (World War II) and Supplement Number 1, 1945 were followed by AAF Statistical Digest, 1946 and USAF Statistical Digest, 1947. The 1946 and 1947 editions made available Air Force statistics in summarized form as far back as available, with the exception of Combat Operations. The latter data is found only in the 1945 editions. The present issue is the first strictly annual publication and historical continuity may be accomplished by referring to the previous publications. Many new tables have been added on data which has become available during the preparation of this issue. An effort has been made to cover all phases of the Air Force activities for which this publication is the official statistical yearbook.

Book Eagles Overhead

    Book Details:
  • Author : Matt Dietz
  • Publisher : University of North Texas Press
  • Release : 2023-02-15

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: US Air Force Forward Air Controllers (FACs) bridge the gap between air and land power. They operate in the grey area of the battlefield, serving as an aircrew who flies above the battlefield, spots the enemy, and relays targeting information to control close air support attacks by other faster aircraft. When done well, Air Force FACs are the fulcrum for successful employment of air power in support of ground forces. Unfortunately, FACs in recent times have been shunned by both ground and air forces, their mission complicated by inherent difficulty and danger, as well as by the vicissitudes of defense budgets, technology, leadership, bureaucracy, and doctrine. Eagles Overhead is the first complete historical survey of the US Air Force FAC program from its origins in World War I to the modern battlefield. Matt Dietz examines their role, status, and performance in every US Air Force air campaign from the Marne in 1918, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, and finally Mosul in 2017. With the remaking of the post-Vietnam US military, and the impact of those changes on FAC, the Air Force began a steady neglect of the FAC mission from Operation Desert Storm, through the force reductions after the Soviet Union’s collapse, and into the post 9-11 wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Eagles Overhead asks why FACs have not been heavily used on US battlefields since 2001, despite their warfighting importance. Dietz examines the Air Force FAC’s theoretical, doctrinal, institutional, and historical frameworks to assess if the nature of air warfare has changed so significantly that the concept and utility of the FAC has been left behind. From these examinations, Eagles Overhead draws conclusions about the potential future of Air Force FACs.

  • Release : 2004

  • Pages : 172 pages

Download or read book Creech Blue written by James C. Slife and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Colonel Slife chronicles the influence of the late Gen Wilbur L. "Bill" Creech7a leader, visionary, warrior, and mentor7in the areas of equipment and tactics, training, organization, and leader development. His study serves both to explain the context of a turbulent time in our Air Force's history and to reveal where tomorrow's airmen may find answers to some of the difficult challenges facing them today. Colonel Slife, who addresses such controversial topics as the development of the Army's AirLand Battle doctrine and what it meant to airmen, is among the first to describe what historians will surely see in years to come as the revolutionary developments of the late 1970s/early 1980s and General Creech's central role. Creech Blue enlightens the Air Force on its strongly held convictions during that period and challenges the idea that by 1990, when Iraq invaded Kuwait, the Air Force had forgotten how to wage a "strategic" air campaign and was dangerously close to plunging into a costly and lengthy war of attrition had it not been for the vision of a small cadre of thinkers on the Air Staff. In exploring the doctrine and language of the decade leading up to Operation Desert Storm, Colonel Slife reveals that the Air Force was not as shortsighted as many people have argued.

Book USAF Statistical Digest Abridged 1991 Estimate

Download or read book USAF Statistical Digest Abridged 1991 Estimate written by Office of Air Force History and U S Air and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2015-04-02 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All of us have been and are being affected by the new international environment--changed perceptions of the threat, negotiated reductions in conventional and strategic arms, shrinking defense budgets, and, consequently, a smaller Air Force with fewer resources. We in the Secretariat are no exception. As a result of declining resources, it was imperative that we consolidate our publications. Our new document, the USAF Statistical Digest, is a consolidation of three previous publications: the USAF Summary, Budget Book, and Budget Book in Brief. Please note that there have been no substantive changes to the information previously provided. A great deal of redundancy existed when we published the aforementioned three books. This has been eliminated. In addition, the USAF Statistical Digest has been reformatted to enable users to more easily find the information contained therein. Also, the charts and tables are now created using state of the art graphics. They should be more legible and thus, more useful. The time required to prepare the USAF Statistical Digest has been decreased substantially. All in all, we are proud of the improvements, the refinement of the production process, the reduction in production costs, and the final product.

Book Tomorrow s Air Force

Download or read book Tomorrow s Air Force written by Jeffrey J. Smith and published by Indiana University Press. This book was released on 2013-11-01 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “A bold and courageous clarion call from a highly respected serving officer that should be read and heeded by anyone interested in the future of the US Air Force.” —Everett Dolman, School of Advanced Airpower Studies Looking ahead to future airpower requirements, this engaging and groundbreaking book on the history and future of American combat airpower argues that the US Air Force must adapt to the changes that confront it or risk decline into irrelevance. To provide decision makers with the necessary analytical tools, Jeffrey J. Smith uses organizational modeling to help explain historical change in the USAF and to anticipate change in the future. While the analysis and conclusions it offers may prove controversial, the book aims to help planners make better procurement decisions, institute appropriate long-term policy, and better organize, train, and equip the USAF for the future. “Those airmen willing to actively engage such discussions would do well to turn to Smith’s book as the basic point of departure for debates concerning the intricate relationship between the Air Force’s past, present, and future.” —Strategic Studies Quarterly “This book is ‘out of the box’ thinking and is very timely given the recent and evolving Air Force roles and missions.” —Brigadier General Al Rachel, USAF (Ret.) “Colonel Smith has a great grasp of what the forthcoming debate will require. The Congress must reduce the spending at the very time our enemies are overtaking our capabilities. The debate needs to be engaged now. This book comes on the scene at just the right time.” —Denny Smith former US Congressman and Air Force F-4 pilot
