Book The Routledge Handbook of Comparative Global Urban Studies

Download or read book The Routledge Handbook of Comparative Global Urban Studies written by Patrick Le Galès and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-09-29 with total page 962 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Routledge Handbook of Comparative Global Urban Studies is a timely intervention into the field of global urban studies, coming as comparison is being more widely used as a method for global urban studies, and as a number of methodological experiments and comparative research projects are being brought to fruition. It consolidates and takes forward an emerging field within urban studies and makes a positive and constructive intervention into a lively arena of current debate in urban theory. Comparative urbanism injects a welcome sense of methodological rigor and a commitment to careful evaluation of claims across different contexts, which will enhance current debates in the field. Drawing together more than 50 international scholars and practitioners, this book offers an overview of key ideas and practices in the field and extends current thinking and practice. The book is primarily intended for scholars and graduate students for whom it will provide an invaluable and up-to-date guide to current thinking across the range of disciplines which converge in the study of urbanism, including geography, sociology, political studies, planning, and urban studies.

Book Urbanismo Regenerativo

Download or read book Urbanismo Regenerativo written by Landlab and published by Actar D, Inc.. This book was released on 2024-01-23 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are living in a critical moment, a reality marked by environmental and socio-economic limits that requires innovative and realistic forms of action and planning. This is what regenerative urbanism proposes, a new approach based on utopian pragmatism that seeks to restore balance to the urban territory by designing systems that allow it to adapt and transform. It is a methodology that defines models that do not consume available resources, but rather generate new ones that ensure compatibility between economic and social prosperity and nature. Santander, Hábitat Futuro (Santander, Future Habitat) is the city model created from this methodology, a proposal for the transformation of this city for the year 2055. It is an open model based on innovation and citizen participation that prepares and adapts the territory for the different scenarios to come. Santander, Habitat Futuro is a guide that directs the commitment of the different social, economic and political agents towards a common goal: to achieve a circular, sustainable, resilient, vertebrate, prosperous, vital and inclusive city. A model that, due to its innovative nature, can serve as an example to other intermediate cities around the world.

Book Crisis urbana y cambio social

Download or read book Crisis urbana y cambio social written by Manuel Castells and published by Siglo XXI Ediciones. This book was released on 1981 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Land Squandering and Social Crisis in the Spanish City

Download or read book Land Squandering and Social Crisis in the Spanish City written by Jesús Manuel González Pérez and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2019-06-20 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last two decades have been marked by intense and accelerated economic, political, and cultural processes that have affected urban spaces. These changes have occurred in different parts of cities (traditional centers, edges, peripheries) and at different levels of the urban system (large and medium-sized cities and in their respective areas of influence). Possibly the clearest expression of the spatial effects on cities can be perceived in their morphological transformations, their territorial dimensions, or in their social problems. Until 2008, urban–territorial processes were a reflection of the logic and inconsistencies of an expansive economic context and of a structural context that favored the development of cities through concurrent processes and actors. As a result, the built land and amount of urbanized and built surfaces increased, together with processes of the expansion and modernization of cities. Since 2008, the expansive economic cycle has ended, and there have been diverse negative consequences. Notably, the construction sector has come to an abrupt halt. Access to credit has also been reduced, and unemployment has increased. The economic recession has caused sociodemographic and socioeconomic issues exemplified by housing vulnerability, with dispossession, evictions, a shortage of social housing, and energy poverty.

Book Economic Development and Global Crisis

Download or read book Economic Development and Global Crisis written by José Luís Cardoso and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-02-05 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited collection uses a history of economic thought perspective to explore the evolving role of Latin America within the context of globalization. In particular, it examines the region’s resilience in the face of the global financial crisis. Economic Development and Global Crisis explains that Latin America is a region with distinct characteristics and peculiarities which have been shaped from the colonial era up to the present day. The contributions suggest that several features which were perceived as economic backwardness have turned out to be advantageous, and this may explain why Latin America is withstanding the crisis much better than Europe, Japan and the USA. This book will be of interest to scholars working in the areas of economic development, economic history, the history of economic thought and Latin American studies.

Book Housing and Housing Politics in European Metropolises

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Neoliberal paradigms and the privatisation of housing have recently been confronted with social movements in many large European metropolises. The political and social need for more participation in housing, for new forms of urban land politics and for specific and powerful rental regulation is obvious. The special book section analyses these dimensions of housing and housing politics in a comparative European perspective and discusses new policy approaches for urban housing. Furthermore, the Jahrbuch StadtRegionoffers scientific articles and reports, as well as a monitoring section and book reviews related to interdisciplinary urban research and planning issues.

Book International Residential Mobilities

Download or read book International Residential Mobilities written by Josefina Dominguez-Mujica and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-10-04 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book assesses the drivers and impacts of new international residential mobilities by considering a range of mobilities in different countries across the globe from investment, amenity and retirement mobilities to those of the new global middle class and the transnational elites. It examines the intersection of these mobilities with the increase in the volume of global tourism, the advent of the sharing economy and peer-to-peer platforms, and the effects of transnational property investment. The consequent transformations are considered in urban environments where tourism pressure coexists with gentrification, increasing house prices and processes of social and ethnic segregation. By offering a broad perspective based on different case studies, the book portrays the contradictory consequences of international residential mobilities both favouring local opportunities for development and disrupting housing markets through the disassociation from local demand. As a result this book is a great resource for academics and students in tourism, urban and migration studies as well as policy-makers and practitioners involved in urban planning, social affairs and tourism management.

Book The United States Honduras And The Crisis In Central America

Download or read book The United States Honduras And The Crisis In Central America written by Deborah Sundloff Schulz and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prior to the 1980s Honduras was an obscure backwater, of little public or policy concern in the United States. With the advent of the Reagan administration, however, Hondurans found themselves at the center of the US-Central American imbroglio, a launching pad for the administration's contra war against the Sandinista government in Nicaragua and for counterinsurgency operations against guerrillas in El Salvador. Placing events in the context of Honduran history, the authors provide penetrating insights into the causes of revolution in Central America and the sources of stability that enabled Honduras to escape the civil strife that consumed its neighbors. At the same time, the work offers a fascinating account of Honduran domestic politics and of the personalities, motives, and maneuvers of policymakers on both sides of the U.S.-Honduras relationship—too often a tale of intrigue, violence, and corruption.
